puppy love } { of confusion and real talk
Derek: [is in the woods, but doesn't go to his tree because he doesn't want to be found. He actually will head back towards the school, and pulls out his phone to text Allison] Are you still up?
Allison: [rolls over at the buzzing of her phone and reaches for it] Yeah, what's up?
Derek: So you told me your dad was a gun nut. Didn't mention your aunt was worse.
Allison: What?
Derek: She may have sent a threat in my direction that I'm not allowed to talk to you.
Allison: Why would she do that?
Derek: Overprotective maybe? I guess I do come off as an arrogant jock sometimes.
Allison: That doesn't sound like her at all.
Derek: Well, anyway, I guess I can't really talk to you anymore or you'll get in trouble next.
Allison: [is just ... so confused] This doesn't make any sense.
Derek: I don't get it either.
Allison: Let me try and talk to her.
Derek: Okay. I just don't want to get you in trouble. I really like hanging out with you.
Allison: I like hanging out with you too. This has to be some kind of misunderstanding.
Derek: [he's not going to break the news about being a werewolf. If she doesn't know, they may not have told her.] I really hope so.
Allison: Me too. I'll talk to her tomorrow, okay?
Derek: Okay.
Allison: Night.
Derek: Night.
Allison: [and she will curl up and be very confused but still try to sleep]
Derek: [and he will be angry still because it's not fair at all, and hates when Cora's mad at him, and is feeling very, very rebellious at the moment to the point of almost wanting to just run away]
Allison: [well where are you going to run too, Derek?]
Derek: [totally run to like, LA. Live on the beach]
Allison: [I'm sure that will work out well for you]
Derek: [learn to surf. become an actor. Change his name. Tyler sounds like a good name]
Allison: [Mmmhmmm]
Derek: [but no, he's a momma's boy and he will eventually slink his way back home when he hopes everyone is asleep]
Laura: [everyone except his sister who is just getting back to Beacon Hills for the game tomorrow]
Derek: [and he is going to stumble in his window, not making a LOT of noise, but enough that Laura knows he's sneaking in]
Laura: [will wander over to his door] Hey.
Derek: Hey.
Laura: Everything okay?
Derek: No. Everyone hates me at the moment.
Laura: Everyone?
Derek: More like everyone as in Cora.
Laura: What happened?
Derek: [sits on his bed, putting his head in his hands] I don't want to talk about it.
Laura: [sighs] Maybe I can help.
Derek: I think as I get older, I can't say anything right anymore to her.
Laura: Aside from you saying dumb boy shit?
Derek: She thinks I care about a girl more than her. Which isn't true, but unless I actually make a thing of it and say it, she thinks I don't.
Laura: Well, did you make a thing about the girl?
Derek: Yeah, because part of the argument was about the girl.
Laura: What happened?
Derek: sighs] There's a new girl at school who I like. I really, really like Laura. But her family... [huffs] It's the Argents.
Laura: [she figured it was about Allison Argent] So? Chris seemed fine with you at the game.
Derek: Yeah, he did. However her aunt threatened Cora to pass a message along to me to stay away from her.
Laura: [eyes widen] Is Cora okay?
Derek: Yeah, she's fine. Scared, like anyone would be, but Mom said she was fine and she wasn't hurt at all.
Laura: But I'm betting you didn't take it well when Mom told you that you couldn't hang out with Allison anymore.
Derek: Of course not. It's not fair that I have to be punished and not allowed to be her friend just because her aunt is a psycho.
Laura: Did you make a bigger deal about not being allowed to be friends with a girl you've known for a week over what happened to your sister?
Derek: Only because I knew she was safe and unharmed. [yes, yes he did]
Laura: Yeah, that's not going to make a difference to Cora, Derek.
Derek: So what, I'm not allowed to be hurt and upset too?
Laura: No, I'm not saying that. But your sister was threatened by Kate Argent - who is fucking terrifying - and your priority is how you can't be friends with this girl you barely know. And lately, you seem to be throwing sister under the bus a lot for this girl.
Derek: I'm not throwing her under the bus!
Laura: Right, so that whole thing where you basically threw Stiles in her face wasn't part of the hissy fit you had when Mom told you you couldn't date Allison?
Derek: [yup, that's him deflating and looking at his floor]
Laura: That's what I thought. [she sighs] It seems to me that when someone tells you what you can and can't do with regards to this girl, you take it out on Cora. And now you're again, throwing a hissyfit over not being able to be around Allison only this time Kate Argent had a gun to her head. And Cora doesn't really have a lot of nuance. You know that if things were reversed, she would cut ties without a second thought or a word of complaint because she loves you, and you're her best friend.
Derek: [he bites his lips] And if it was anyone else, I would, Laura.
Laura: See, that's not really going to make her feel better. Because she won't get why you don't love her as much. And that's not really fair either. Because this isn't just about her - this is about the pack - and if you're going to make a big deal about this she's probably worried that you're not going to listen to Mom, and someone is going to get hurt.
Derek: Laura, it's just... I can't really explain it. I just... when I'm with her I feel different. Like it's where I'm supposed to be.
Laura: Derek, you're sixteen. I felt that way about guys at sixteen. It lasted about a month and then it was over. A teenage crush isn't something to risk the pack over. [she sighs] Look, I get why you're upset. I do. But don't fuck around about this. Kate Argent is dangerous and manipulative and if you give her an inch she will take it a mile. She already feels comfortable enough to corner Cora and she may be fine now, but she might not be next time. So right now? I think you've got to get your priorities in order. Stop thinking about right now and look at the big picture because if you don't? You're not going to like the consequences.
Derek: [and he's going to nod] It's still not fair.
Laura: No. But life isn't fair. And if you want to make things better with your sister? Stop using her as an emotional punching bag and expecting her not to feel it.
Derek: I don't even know how to apologize for that.
Laura: I don't either. It might take a little time of making it up to her.
Derek: [leans into his sister] I hate this.
Laura: I know. And it does suck, I'm sorry.
Derek: I should go to bed. I have a big game tomorrow
Laura: Me too. I had a long drive.
Derek: I'm glad you're here for it.
Laura: Me too. This game should be fun.
Derek: Fingers crossed.
Laura: [smirks as she ruffles his hair] Get some rest.
Derek: [it manages to get a half of a half smile out of him, before he will lay down and try and sleep]
Laura: [and she will return to her room and pass out herself]
