spamalot } { of sore feet and learning to wait
Derek: [since he wasn't part of the wedding party, he is at the reception with the rest of his family, sitting with his parents, Laura and Jason as he waits for Fiona to not have to be in the ceremony anymore and can come be with him]
Fiona: [eventually she will wander over, with a drink in her hand. She doesn't go for the chair next to him and instead goes for his lap, settling close and leaning in for a kiss. Her dress swirls around her legs and she looks way too much like a girl for her tastes, but what can you do] Hi.
Derek: [not like anyone at the table is surprised at this. But he laughed and kissed her back, his hands going to settle her better into his lap so she doesn't slide off.] Hey beautiful.
Fiona: [chairs are overrated. he's much more comfortable] Did you like the wedding?
Derek: It was very nice. However I was really distracted by this hot bridesmaid who I swear looks like my girlfriend, but she was in this dress and my girlfriend doesn't do dresses.
Fiona: Really? Well, maybe you should dance with her, just to be on the safe side.
Derek: I was thinking about it, but wasn't sure if she wanted to in those heels.
Fiona: She's two drinks in. She could do the moonwalk in these things.
Derek: I may have to get her a third to get her to do that for me. [so smirking]
Fiona: Well, maybe you should. She wouldn't complain about that either.
Derek: But first, she's going to have to stand up. [and he may just go and pinch her butt under the table]
Fiona: [there's a little "eep!" at that, smacking him in the shoulder as she does, and then she gets to her feet and waits for him to join her]
Derek: [laughs and gets up, taking her hand and leading her to the dance floor. Unlike the rest of the wolves in his family, Derek knows how to dance from past girlfriends during college. So he isn't just standing and swaying]
Fiona: [which is totally fine with her. The first song is pretty up beat, and she takes the time to appreciate her boyfriend's moves, but eventually it turns into something slower, and she turns to pull him in, sliding her arms around his neck]
Derek: [he pulls her in nice and close, back to full strength and enjoying the sight of her] You look amazing, you know that right.
Fiona: And I haven't fallen on my ass yet in these shoes! Yay! [that's sarcasm, though she is pleased that she hasn't managed to make an ass out of herself yet] You're looking pretty smokin' yourself, by the way.
Derek: Thank you. Peter and I took the boys to get appropriate suits and the girl seemed to enjoy measuring my inseam.
Fiona: Oh really?
Derek: Yup. Got a little handsy down there, but I told him I was dating this really hot girl with a gun fetish. That stopped her.
Fiona: As it should. [she takes another step closer] Especially if I wasn't invited.
Derek: [drops his voice since there are way too many wolves on the dance floor] You make it sound like you're looking for a threesome.
Fiona: [she gives a bit of a shrug as she follows his lead, leaning in closer so that she's whispering in his ear] I'm just saying that if there's going to be another girl, it's better if I'm invited.
Derek: Well, you're all the woman I need. [he nibbled on her ear]
Fiona: [she closes her eyes at the touch, tipping her head to the side] Good to know.
Derek: You know, the wedding's over now… [he knows she will know what it means]
Fiona: [she does. And there's a beat where she tenses slightly, before tipping her head to the side to look at him. She's about to say something when ...]
Kieran: [wanders over before she can get the words out] May I cut in?
Derek: [frustrated smile, because he was waiting for an answer to that question, Kieran] Depends - who are you asking to dance with?
Fiona: [Already knows the answer to that question, and she needs the beat, so she just steps back] By all means.
Kieran: [grins] Great. [and with that he's just going to step in and place a hand at the small of Derek's back, taking his hand and starting to move in time to the music before Derek can protest]
Derek: You didn't have time to find a date to bring, or you trying to make him jealous?
Kieran: My lovely date is right over there - [nods to where his wife is dancing with Victor] - but I wanted a chance to talk to you. Why? Is there something you have against two men dancing together?
Derek: No, we live in a very progressive world.
Kieran: Good. Now. [he takes a breath and looks him in the eye, mostly serious despite the situation] I know my brother and sister have already done the requisite older sibling threatening, and I'm not even going to bother to waste my breath because you are a werewolf and could probably snap me like a twig if I tried. But I know the look you've got. It's not a bad look, from what I know of you, it's not a look I have a problem with. And I need you to understand that this is my baby sister. Leah and I basically raised that girl. And I'm not going to expect you to make promises you can't keep or have expectations that you can't meet but I do have a request, if you'll allow it.
Derek: [he's listening] Sure, what is it?
Kieran: Just ... take care of her. While she's yours, for however long that lasts, take care of my sister. And if for whatever reason I find out you aren't then I will probably attempt to break my hand on your face, and be fairly ineffective, but I'm also Irish, so. Punching people who piss us off is one of our defaults.
Derek: That I can do - you don't even need to ask. [he thinks a moment] Kieran, I do have a question for you.
Kieran: Shoot.
Derek: [looks at Fiona a moment, then focuses on the man in his arms] Is there a reason she would say no if asked to spend the rest of her life with me?
Kieran: [glances back over his shoulder at his sister who is off at the bar talking to Leah] No. But she's a bit of a weirdo who would want to be sure that it's not something she's doing for the wrong reasons. Given recent events, she won't say no, but she won't say yes either.
Derek: She just keeps putting answering off. [which can let you know what conversation you had interrupted, Kieran]
Kieran: [yep. He had a feeling. And he knows his sister] I know. When did you ask her the first time?
Derek: A month ago. After... [he figured Leah told the brothers by now] When I woke up after almost dying from wolfsbane poisoning.
Kieran: [he nods slowly] She wouldn't have said yes then. She would have felt like she was saying it out of guilt.
Derek: She told me to ask after the wedding then. When you walked over, I had just asked her again. The look in her eyes and how her anxiety rose... she wasn't going to say yes.
Kieran: No, but she will. If you ask her again later she will. [he glances back at Fiona again] Anyone who sees the way she looks at you can see it. She just wants it to be right.
Derek: I get it. I don't need it to be right though. I just want it to be her. [yeah, he's completely in love with her]
Kieran: Then don't worry about it. Because she'll say yes. Just let her give the whole Greg thing a little space. [there's a pause, and his lips pursed, debating if he should say this, but he thinks Derek needs it to get it] Despite how it ended, she loved him too. So while she's had moved on, in the span of a week someone she cared about a lot, betrayed her, attacked you and was killed. She almost lost you on top of it and she killed someone. She's going to need a bit more than a month to process that and put it behind her.
Derek: [nods] I thought I was giving her a way to move on and something she could cling to during that, but I guess there's still some things about her I'm always going to be learning.
Kieran: [he shakes his head] She doesn't want it to be something that she uses to get over it. She wants it to be the thing, the only thing.
Derek: [thinks a moment] I think I know what I need to do then.
Kieran: [he nods] Good.
Derek: I guess all that's left is to ask if you, Leah and Cormac are okay with me asking her this.
Kieran: Good. [the song comes to an end and he claps him on the shoulder] Good luck.
Derek: That wasn't an answer.
Kieran: [he glances back to him as he steps away, before giving him a small smile] As I said. Just take care of her.
Derek: I will. [gives him a smile in return, and then heads over to Leah and Fiona]
Fiona: [is there chatting with her sister, and turns back to him when she catches him coming] Enjoy your dance?
Derek: I did. And he kept his hands in all the proper places to keep you and his wife from being upset.
Fiona: Good boy. Though I don't think Michaela would have been surprised.
Leah: [shakes her head] I'm going to go find my husband. I'll see you two later.
Derek: [nodded, getting himself a beer since he's at the bar]
Fiona: [she watches Leah walk away, before turning to face him again with a smile] I'm sorry about him.
Derek: Don't worry about it. I now have the entire families' threats of pain catalogued which means they are all happy you're happy.
Fiona: [she laughs softly] That's good, at least.
Derek: [takes a sip of his beer] Also, he gave me a bit of insight, so I wanted to tell you something before we go back dancing.
Fiona: [insight into what exactly is her first question, and considering she knows what he was going to ask her, she can feel nerves curling her stomach again] Okay.
Derek: I'm not going to ask you for an answer. I'm not going to ask again without warning. Instead... when you're ready to be asked, and you feel it's right... you tell me when I can ask again. That work?
Fiona: [she watches him for a moment, studying his face for a second and nodding with a small smile] Yeah. That works.
Derek: [he's good with the idea, and smiled back] Good. Because I'd rather wait until the time was right, then make you think I was upset at you for not wanting to answer.
Fiona: [she nods, because as much as she wants to say yes, and fall into that, she knows she's not ready. not yet. she takes another step to him and kisses him softly in response] Thank you.
Derek: [kisses her back] Anything for you, Fiona.
Fiona: [she grins a bit at that, before tugging on his hand] Come on. You said something about more dancing.
Derek: [grins and follows. He actually doesn't mind the dancing at all, and twirls her around a bit on the floor as the music lets him]
Fiona: [just lets them dance most of the night away until her feet are absolutely killing her and she needs to sit for a bit, dragging him off to a table to sit] I hate these stupid shoes.
Derek: Come here. [he sits her down, taking the seat next to her and starts to massage her feet after she takes the heels off]
Fiona: [sighs softly as he does, relaxing back against the chair with a smile] You are the best boyfriend, just so you know.
Derek: [chuckles] I try.
Fiona: [she is quiet for a moment, before looking back up at him] Having fun?
Derek: At the wedding, or with your feet? [smirks]
Fiona: [she smirks] Either? Both? I'll keep your options open.
Derek: Well, feet were never really a fetish of mine, but I'm sure I could make you enjoy it. [and his thumbs press in nice and firmly into her arch]
Fiona: [there's a soft moan at that and she glances back at him] You keep doing that and we may be leaving early.
Derek: And abandon your sister early on her wedding day? Shame on you [and he's not stopping]
Fiona: [good, because she didn't actually want him to] I don't think she'd miss me.
Derek: [looks over at the couple] I didn't think those two could get any happier than they were, but I was wrong.
Fiona: Me either. But they're pretty much perfect together.
Derek: Reminds you that true love still exists in the world, huh?
Fiona: [she laughs a bit at that] Oh, I always knew. It's just a little hard to see sometimes.
Derek: Yeah, tell me about it. I gave up on it until I met you.
Fiona: [turns and beams at him] Clearly you just needed the magic touch.
Derek: Or a girlfriend who can kick my stubborn ass when needed.
Fiona: [she nods] That too.
Derek: [he leaned over to kiss her]
Fiona: [kisses him back, one hand coming up to brush against his jaw gently]
Derek: [when he's done enjoying that long kiss] Feet feeling better now?
Fiona: [she nods a bit in agreement] Much. But I do not want to put those shoes back on.
Derek: I don't really think you'll get in much trouble walking around barefoot.
Fiona: Good. Because I think it's the much better option.
Derek: Dare I talk you back on the dance floor?
Fiona: So long as you promise not to step on my feet.
Derek: [thinks a moment, then grins and goes to kick off his shoes as well, staying in his socks] We can be rebels together.
Fiona: [grins brightly at him before nodding] I like it.
Derek: [stands up, giving her a smirk] Let's go make your siblings laugh at us.
Fiona: [she grins as she takes his hand, guiding the way back to the dance floor.]
Derek: [and wow, the floor is slippery in socks. So he may be sliding just a bit now and then]
Fiona: [she will do her best to try and hold him up, grasping his shoulders steady with a bit of a laugh]
Derek: This would be a lot worse if I could get drunk, you realize that right? [laughing]
Fiona: [she laughs, her head flopping against his shoulder] I actually am drunk.
Derek: Maybe I should take you back to the room so you can sleep it off then?
Fiona: [considers a moment before nodding] Yes. That sounds like a good idea.
Derek: Alright. Let me go get our shoes first.
Fiona: [she slips her hand in his as they go, falling into step next to him as they walk.]
