spamalot } { of moving in and being parents
[Cora and Stiles are discussing where to discuss their moving in plans with Lydia and Dina. Cora is vetoing Chuck E. Cheese.]
Stiles: And I have an almost four year old to distract. [no, he totally plays the games with her]
Cora: We can let her watch a movie.
Stiles: But skeeball.
Cora: I won't be able to hear myself think. [those places are hell on werewolf ears, Stiles. Too many shouting children]
Stiles: [sighs] Fine.
Cora: Maybe we could go out for something after. Or take her down to the pier this weekend.
Stiles: [nods] She does like the pier.
Cora: [nods a bit] But I think this conversation is one we should have here.
Stiles: So three pizzas and a movie to distract Dina if we need to. What time does Lydia get home?
Cora: [glances at her watch] Another half-hour, maybe?
Stiles: [nods] I need to go grab Dina from your mom. Your dad asked if I could stay out of the house for a few hours so I'm thinking they are having a date night.
Cora: Then I'll order the pizza and we'll meet back at my place.
Stiles: Sounds like a plan.
Cora: I'll see you in a bit.
Stiles: Love you. [hangs up phone and heads off from work to the Hale house]
Cora: [and when he gets there, she's out of her work clothes and into something more comfortable, with the pizza set up in the living room. there are plates and drinks on the coffee table, with room for Dina to sit on the floor to eat if she wants]
Dina: Cora!!!! [child runs in, wearing a cape, tutu over leggings, shirt, and cowgirl boots. She looks for Cora and goes to tackle her] Hi hi! Daddy says I get to have dinner with you and Auntie Lydia tonight too!
Cora: [she's sitting cross legged on the couch and when she sees her, she just pulls her into her lap, letting her settle for a moment] Yep. Did you have a good day today?
Dina: Uh huh. They taught me how to pump today!
Stiles: On the swings. Honey, remember I said you need to make sure you are very specific about that.
Dina: I learned to pump swings today!
Cora: [laughs a bit at that before nodding] Sounds like fun.
Dina: But Daddy says he can still push me since I'm too tiny to touch the ground to start.
Cora: That's true. But soon you'll be big enough to do it all on your own.
Stiles: Don't remind me. [puts his briefcase and Dina's backpack down by the couch and sits next to them.]
Cora: [laughs a bit, before tipping slightly to kiss him] How was your day?
Stiles: [kisses her back, one of those quick chaste kisses since Dina is there] Good. Though I think we spent more time playing foosball today than we did actual work, so that may have had something to do with it.
Cora: [she laughs] Sounds like both of you had pretty awesome days.
Stiles: What about you?
Cora: [she wrinkles her nose] Teenagers.
Stiles: [laughs]
Dina: You don't like teenagers?
Cora: I don't like teenagers when they're being know-it-all jerks.
Stiles: And yet, you chose to work in a high school.
Dina: Does that mean you don't like Liam then? He knows a lot of things.
Cora: No, I like Liam because while he is very smart and knows a lot of things, he doesn't think he knows everything. Or assume he knows more than the teacher does.
Dina: Oh. Okay. I don't do that. My teachers knows a lot of things I don't know. That's why she is a teacher, right Daddy?
Stiles: Right.
Cora: Smart girl. Remember that when you're sixteen.
Lydia: [and on that note, Lydia makes her way in. her eyes go from the pizza to the Stilinski-Hale pile on the couch, and sighs slightly] So is this what I have to look forward to?
Dina: Auntie Lydia! [and not, wiggling free to hug Lydia now]
Stiles: [smiles] Surprise? We're having a family dinner and you're family so come eat?
Lydia: [will put her things down just in time to catch Dina in a hug, before making her way over to take a seat in her chair. she doesn't fully respond until her heels are off] I was forewarned. Not a bad surprise, though. What's this family meeting about?
Stiles: [looks at Cora, then Lydia.] Well, Cora and I were actually talking about maybe Dina and myself moving in with both of you. And since I know that would make it a bit tight, I wanted to see if you were okay with the idea, and what maybe we could do so that you don't feel overwhelmed with us. [very big emphasis in making sure she knows he wants her there]
Lydia: [she takes a deep breath at that. She doesn't mind the idea, but at the same time] There would have to be some rules. [more for Dina than anything else] And possibly doors with locks on them?
Stiles: [nods] That's totally doable. And if you're not adverse to moving again, I was thinking that I could buy a new place that's bigger... get another bathroom at least, maybe thicker walls to the bedrooms... you can help me design it.
Lydia: [nods in agreement] I could do that.
Dina: Does that mean I won't see Ms. Talia anymore?
Stiles: [softens] No, honey, we'll still see her all the time. We just won't live there anymore.
Cora: Though I'm sure when she doesn't see you, she'll miss you very much.
Dina: Will she still pick me up from school?
Stiles: Sometimes - we can talk about it later, okay?
Dina: [snuggles against Lydia] Okay.
Cora: Why don't we have the pizza first before it gets cold? Dina, if you want you can pick out a movie to watch.
Dina: Okay. [and the child knows how to pull up Netflix on the TV already because kids, man.]
Stiles: [grabs a slice for Dina and sits there with a napkin to quickly soak up the grease before handing it over to the child and then getting his own]
Cora: [watches, amused, before loading up a plate and passing it to Lydia] I figure once she's busy we can talk the actual logistics.
Dina: [and hope you all like the animated avengers, folks. Yes, this is truly a Stilinski. She is soon engrossed, eating her pizza and watching superheroes]
Cora: [inches further down the couch, closer to Lydia's chair and pulling Stiles with her] What kind of rules were you thinking?
Lydia: Doors are locked for a reason. If Aunt Lydia isn't responding to you, don't follow her out into the street?
Stiles: it may take her a few times to remember it, but she's been doing good at remembering the Hale house rules. And she's getting older so she understands a bit more.
Lydia: [she nods] I just don't know how aware I am when I go into one of those fits. I'm just suddenly somewhere else, and I don't want her to get hurt because I'm not paying attention. [there's a beat] It's probably best you don't leave her home alone with me.
Stiles: [licks his lips, then nods] Yeah, I get that. I um... I also don't know how well soundproof walls work with your scream, but maybe Peter can help us with that and we can put that in her room so she can't hear you. [obviously he and Cora will want to know though]
Lydia: My grandmother had a sound-proofed room at her beach house. No one knew what she was. I assume it works. [there's a beat] I'd want it for my bedroom too. And you'd probably want it for yours, I'm assuming.
Stiles: [looks at Cora] Well, I think soundproofing is one thing, but we want to be able to help you if you scream, right?
Lydia: If I scream, it won't be here. It'll be wherever ... it's happening. [she's learned that much at least] If I choose to scream, it helps drown out everything else - it's better if I'm somewhere quiet to do it.
Stiles: [sucks on his lips a moment, then nods] Okay. Well, then, yeah. I guess we could have a contractor look at the walls at the lake house and see what they are made of and we can get that stuff.
Lydia: [nods] That would work.
Stiles: And I'm pretty sure none of us have a reason to complain on just you know, soundproofing all the bedrooms just in general.
Cora: [nods] Probably a good plan.
Stiles: And I mean, I'm sure you guys in general are done with sharing a bathroom. So adding another one or two would just make things great all around, right?
Lydia: [nods a lot. please. give her her own bathroom]
Stiles: [laughs] Alright, so three bathrooms for the three girls.
Cora: [smirks] We could do one attached to the master, and one attached to Lydia's room. That way Dina doesn't get confused or find things she shouldn't.
Stiles: You know, we may want to just see if your brother will give us a loft so we have a blank slate and can completely design all the walls.
Cora: [she nods] I'll ask him. It's worth a shot.
Stiles: Unless either of you don't want to live in Derek's building... I don't know of any other large loft spaces in town...
Lydia: [shrugs] Fine with me.
Cora: It'll make things easier, if it's more than just us.
Stiles: So I guess we have a game plan. [he smiles, a bit nervous as he looks at Cora] You sure you're up for this step?
Cora: [she nods, her fingers sliding through his and giving his hand a squeeze] Are you?
Stiles: [to both of them] To be honest, I won't know until I do it. But I think I am, so that's probably a step in the right direction.
Cora: [nods] Good.
Lydia: [she shrugs] I honestly expected it sooner.
Stiles: We had talked about it right before the whole werewolf switcheroo thing and kinda put it on hold.
Lydia: Ah.
Cora: I also hope you realize that if we do move into my brother's building, this will make us easy babysitting fodder.
Stiles: We will just revisit back up on them. Though Liam should be learning to babysit. He's old enough, right?
Cora: Yeah, but he's also got lacrosse and all that stuff that Lucy's not old enough for yet. Why drive all the way across town to my mom's when Aunt Cora is right upstairs?
Stiles: Downstairs. They have the roof loft and... but no, I get it. Even though your mom may growl at him if he tries to.
Cora: [she laughs] Very true.
Stiles: So this is good? I mean, we're good with moving this forward?
Cora: [both girls nod.] I'll call Derek later.
Stiles: Awesome. [and he's going to get himself another slice of pizza in victory]
Cora: [so will she, and then they'll settle back on the couch for family movie times?]
Stiles: [nope, he's good with that. and eventually he'll have to pack up a half asleep kid and carry her to the jeep and head back to the Hale House]
Cora: [and after Lydia turns in for the night, Cora will call her brother while she's putting away the leftover pizza]
Derek: [oh look, someone's dealing with a fussy baby when he picks up] Hey Cora.
Cora: [frowns at that] Hey. Is she okay?
Derek: Yeah, I think she just has a cold starting up. She pretty much doesn't want to leave my arms.
Cora: Poor thing. Do you want me to call back later?
Derek: No, it's fine. I've got my headset on and she's on the opposite shoulder. I just apologize if she gets loud.
Cora: Don't worry about it. [there's a pause] So ... I have a question for you.
Derek: What kind of question?
Cora: Stiles and Lydia and I were thinking about moving in together? And we figured that with each of our ... individual needs, it might be easier if we maybe got a place where we could start from scratch. So we were thinking about maybe one of the lofts in your building?
Derek: Um, well I think there are still two floors that I haven't set up yet for being built to sell. I've been working from the ground up, so it would be the two floors directly below me.
Cora: That would be fine. We just want to be able to soundproof things, and control the layout a little more.
Derek: Renting or buying?
Cora: I'll have to talk to them but between me and Stiles I think we could do either? Which would be better?
Derek: Well, Peter would tell you to buy and start building equity into the property so that you aren't just paying me rent. But if you're only thinking of using it for a few years until you and Stiles get your family plot of land and build a house, then you won't have to worry about trying to sell it later.
Cora: [pinches her eyes closed] I'm not exactly rushing towards that at the moment.
Derek: Then buy it. Not like you don't have the money. I'll give you a good deal. [amused]
Cora: [she huffs slightly at that] Okay. I'll see what they say.
Derek: Alright. Also - congrats. That's a big step you two are taking.
Cora: [sighs softly] Yeah, I know. I think it'll be good, though.
Derek: You ready to start playing mom with Dina?
Cora: [she smiles a bit at that] Yeah. Think so.
Derek: [he hears that change and smiles as well] Good. I think you'll do great, pup.
Cora: I just hope he's ready for this too.
Derek: If he's agreeing to it? He's probably more ready they he thinks he is.
Cora: That's what I'm hoping. He says he won't really know until we're doing it, though.
Derek: I'm sure this has a lot less to do with you than it has to do with his own confidence that he can actually support a family again and do it right.
Cora: I know. I just really want it to work.
Derek: I know. You know I was terrified to move in with Fi, right?
Cora: [there's a beat] You do realize that you guys were never not practically living together?
Derek: And your boyfriend has been living with your mother for almost a year.
Cora: That was an issue of practicality. If he wasn't being attacked by mobsters, he'd have been living with his dad.
Derek: He chose to stay after Nik ended that conflict. Be either way, we all have different paths that we take to independence. But that said, sleeping over at each other's places verses committing to living in the same space full time is a big difference. You can't kick him out or tell him to go home when he's being annoying.
Cora: It's Stiles. [if she thought he was annoying, they probably would have never dated]
Derek: You also need to know that you're sharing a bed and home with him, and if you're fighting, you need to resolve it and not just storm off.
Cora: I know. [it's not that they have a record of avoiding each other. They know to take their own space when they need it, but they usually resolve stuff the day they have the issue] Are you trying to talk me out of it?
Derek: No, just treating you like the adult you are and making sure you're prepared.
Cora: I am. I want this.
Derek: Good. Then you'll be fine.
Cora: [exhales as she nods a bit] Anyway, I should let you get back to baby time. I'll give you a call once I talk to Stiles and Lydia.
Derek: Peter has the layout of the complex since he is my planner. If you want to see the size and layout, and some of the other floors, check in with him.
Cora: Will do. Thanks, Derek.
Derek: No problem, pup. See you Sunday.
Cora: See you then. [and she hangs up]
Derek: [and he's going to go back to walking around the loft, bouncing a fussy baby on his shoulder and occasionally checking his e-mail from his phone]
Fiona: [wanders in from the bedroom and frowns] Is she still fussy?
Derek: Yeah. I hear cracking in her lungs when she's breathing, and web md says that could just mean she's got a cold.
Fiona: [frowns softly] Poor thing. Maybe we should call the doctor and see if there's anything we can do.
Derek: Could you? I haven't had a cold since I was eight, and while I know I can just call my mom...
Fiona: [she nods as she looks at her watch] It's too late now, but I'll call in the morning.
Derek: [thinks] What do you do when you get a cold?
Fiona: Now I medicate. But when I was a kid, sleep, chicken soup and snuggles.
Derek: Well, the soup is out... [rubs her back gently] You think if I took her in the shower, the steam would help?
Fiona: [she considers before nodding] A little bit, yeah.
Derek: Alright, let me try that and see if it'll soothe her enough to get her to sleep. [starts for the bathroom. Lucy is a baby so he doesn't need to be grabbing his swim trunks]
Fiona: [nods a bit] If you need a hand, I’ll be out here.
Derek: Thanks. [and he's going to go off and run the shower to steam up the bathroom, and sit in there for a bit. He also looks for the lavender baby lotion that Laura got him for bedtime and rubs some of that on her chest to help lull Lucy to sleep]
Lucy: [will continue to fuss for a while but eventually she'll lull off to sleep.]
Derek: [and that is a relief, and he sticks his head out] Can you come get her while I dry off?
Fiona: Yep. [and with that, she'll come to fetch the baby, and go to put her down in her crib for the night]
Derek: [and he's going to dry himself off and back into his sweats. He needs a new shirt though because baby drool so he's shirtless as he follows her to the bedroom]
Fiona: [since when does she complain about a shirtless husband?] She should be down for the night.
Derek: Good. Because I'm exhausted. [whispering as he gets a shirt]
Fiona: [sighs as she goes to climb into bed, waiting for him to join her]
Derek: [if he has to wake up to screaming baby, Fi, he needs drool guard in place. But he's going to come and join you in bed]
Fiona: [curls into him, letting her head rest against his chest]
Derek: [wraps his arms around her] So this is what parenting is like. Being too exhausted to make out with your wife every night...
Fiona: [laughs softly, before snuggling closer] Apparently.
Derek: There are days I really miss just being able to spend half the night naked with you.
Fiona: Mmmm. Me too.
Derek: However, we may be gaining a new local babysitter.
Fiona: Oh really?
Derek: Yeah, Cora called. Stiles and Dina are going to be moving in and they were looking at getting a bigger place and were thinking of designing a space in the building.
Fiona: Oh, that'll be nice.
Derek: It will. And I think it'll be good for the two of them. I feel sorry for Lydia, but it's her choice to stay.
Fiona: How do you know she's staying?
Derek: She mentioned that it was her, Stiles and Lydia looking to live together.
Fiona: So why do you feel sorry for her?
Derek: Young couple, one of which is a werewolf, living together? Do you remember what we were like and if we had roommates?
Fiona: I think she knows what she's getting into.
Derek: I'm sure she does. I'm sure she will take that into account when designing her part of the loft.
Fiona: [nods in agreement]
Derek: And it will be nice to have one of my sisters living close.
Fiona: Yeah, it is.
Derek: Speaking of, how's yours?
Fiona: She's good. Family as usual.
Derek: We're due to go out that way soon, aren't we?
Fiona: Actually they're coming out here for the summer.
Derek: That'll be nice. Will NIk be up too, or will he be fleeing Vegas summer heat?
Fiona: Don't know. I haven't talked to him in a while.
Derek: Huh. Well, I owe him a check in anyway. Liam's bugging me about some summer camp that Gabe was looking at.
Fiona: [she nods] Tell him I said hey.
Derek: Maybe I will, maybe I won't.
Fiona: [looks up at him and sticks out her tongue at him]
Derek: [smiles and leans down a bit to kiss her] I love you.
Fiona: [smiles into the kiss] I love you too.
Derek: [pulls her a bit closer] And maybe sometime soon, we can schedule our own alone time.
Fiona: Mmmm. That'd be nice. [lets her head rest against his shoulder] Leave Liam and Lucy at your mom's and just ... take a weekend?
Derek: Yeah. You, me... maybe a nice hotel with a spa or jacuzzi or something.
Fiona: Ooh, I like the sound of that. And quality husband alone time.
Derek: All weekend long.
Fiona: I think this weekend needs to definitely be clothing optional.
Derek: At least in the hotel room. Pretty sure if we left the room like that, we'd never see each other again.
Fiona: Who said anything about leaving the hotel room?
Derek: If we go to the spa.
Fiona: Well, we'll cross that hurdle when we get to it.
Derek: I'll ask Mom what she's going for the weekend.
Fiona: And if she says yes, I'll see about reservations.
Derek: And I'll make sure Liam doesn't have a game.
Fiona: Perfect.
Derek: [rolls over a bit, leaning down to kiss her deeply]
Fiona: [sighs softly as she kisses him back, one hand coming up to brush against the side of his face]
Derek: [his hands slip under the sheets to pull her hips closer to his, tucking her in perfectly against his body]
Fiona: [she hums softly at that one leg wandering between his to keep closing that space between them]
Derek: [and he's going to just happily kiss and gently caress her until they decide to drift off to sleep, or the baby starts fussing again]
Fiona: [if they're lucky it's the former, but they've never really been lucky so it's probably the latter. Either way ... /scene]
