new york wolves } { of alphas and doctor who

Peter: [and they are on their way back. He's fine, just in need of a good meal and a nap] At least they know we mean business, Laura. That's what matters most.

Laura: I couldn't give less of a crap what they know if you're dead. You're getting reckless.

Peter: If it keeps you safe, that's my call to make. [he's been reckless, a trait that has come back since he didn't have kids to train and they were adult. And he didn't have a sister of his own to keep him in line]

Laura: [grits her teeth because she should be able to but she's not] No, it's not. It's my call because I'm the alpha and I need my second.

Peter: You're my alpha, but you're also my niece. Your siblings fall in line but I'm still your guardian no matter what pack rules say.

Laura: I'm almost fucking thirty, Peter. You might be able to pull that shit with Cora but not with me.

Peter: And I'm in my forties, Laura, and I promised your mother I would take care of you. [all said, of course, as he it barely able to keep his eyes open as they get back home]

Laura: [she rolls her eyes, before parking the car and moving to help him get inside] Yes, well, you can't do that if you're dead, now can you.

Peter: I wasn't planning on dying today. When I get to that part of my schedule, I'll give you the heads-up. [and he's pulled out of the car and manages to at least stay standing on his own for the most part.] And bonus, I don't have to even go to work today so I can sleep the rest of this off.

Laura: Lucky you. [and upstairs they go to the penthouse where Malia is sulking on the couch with a bowl of cereal. Laura looks at her for a moment before raising an eyebrow] What happened to you?

Malia: [looks over and growls] Derek is a douchebag.

Peter: [goes to sit in his chair because it seems the day isn't done yet] What did he do now?

Malia: [rolls her eyes] Cora met a guy at a party last night. He walked her home, she invited him up for a bit, and they accidentally fell asleep on the couch while they were talking. We get home this morning, and Derek practically makes the guy pee himself in getting him to leave.

Peter: [confused, but nope, not sure he has enough information to know what was going on so he looks up at Laura a moment] Was there something off about the guy that he would have reacted like that?

Malia: [huffs] He's from Beacon Hills.

Peter: [and no, that's going to make his eyes narrow a moment, and then look up at Laura. Because this was a pack call]

Laura: [no, she's not sure she likes this either] Who is he?

Malia: His name is Stiles. He said his dad was a deputy back then, Cora recognized him from a picture.

Laura: [there's a pause as Laura thinks that through] Stilinski?

Malia: [shrugs. she never met the guy]

Peter: I recall a kid by that name. Your mother was in the PTA with a Claudia Stilinski. She died, if I remember right, maybe two years before the fire?

Laura: Three. [he was eight. she takes a deep breath] Stilinski was a good guy. Stands to reason Stiles is too.

Malia: Derek's so freaking paranoid. He just automatically jumps to the conclusion that just because Stiles knows we're here he "may" tell his dad, and somehow it could get back to hunters that way. Like the Argents don't have better things to do than stalk a Beacon Hills police station.

Peter: [he licks his lips, because he can see it from both angles.] Derek has a tendency to overreact on the side of caution when it comes to secrets, Malia. Him being a cop hasn't helped in that. [it's made it worse in a way. He sighs and looks at Laura] You or me? [talking to Derek.]

Laura: Me. You talk to Cora.

Peter: [sniffs the air, the nods] Let me at least get some protein in me. [and he groans as he stands up]

Laura: [nods] How long has he been asleep?

Malia: Couple hours?

Laura: I'll let him sleep a little longer. In fact, I'm going to do the same. I'll be able to deal with his issues better on a couple hours sleep.

Malia: [sighs] Alright. I have to get ready for class.

Peter: [grabs a protein bar - real food will have to wait until later and goes up to change into something that doesn't reek before knocking on Cora's door] Sweetheart, you up?

Cora: It's open. [she's sitting cross legged on her bed, working on some homework. It helps her clear her head and she doesn't sleep well when she's angry]

Peter: [comes in, closing the door behind him to give them some soundproof privacy] What are you working on?

Cora: Organic chem. It's not due until next week, but I figured I'd get it out of the way.

Peter: Smart plan. You never know what those teachers will throw at you last minute. [goes to sit down in a chair in her room] You want to talk about what happened with your brother?

Cora: [she closes her eyes, before placing her pencil down and looking back at him] It was one boy. We didn't even do anything and he was treating him like he was worse than a hunter.

Peter: I think Derek is more worried about the ghosts of the past than he is of you being with one boy, Cora. [because Peter knew things that Derek's never told anyone]

Cora: So what? He thinks Stiles is just going to pick up a phone and call the Argents? He's not like that.

Peter: You certain about that? I mean, how long have you known the boy?

Cora: He thought I was having a panic attack and he offered me his inhaler.

Peter: [nods] You have a good instinct in people, Cora. Your brother doesn't, and he learned that a very painful way. In some way, he's just trying to protect you from that lesson. But... you need to remember that just because he isn't calling the Argents doesn't mean that they don't have ears in the sheriff's station.

Cora: [sighs, looking down at her hands] So you're telling me I should stay away.

Peter: No, I'm not saying that. I'm saying that if you want to spend time with him, you should be very clear to him that he needs to keep the fact you're here in New York quiet, for now. I'm sure he knows what happened wasn't just an accident if he's the deputy's son, so he should understand the caution behind it.

Cora: [exhales slowly before nodding] Okay. I can do that.

Peter: Let your sister deal with Derek and his paranoia. If you think he would be a good friend, be friends with him. That's why you're in college, right? Make new friends?

Cora: [she wants to be his friend. She likes that she doesn't have to explain Beacon Hills to him. She likes him, and it hasn't been this easy since Alexis. She nods] Yeah.

Peter: [pulls himself up and gets close, rubbing her back gently] Then have some fun. You deserve it. [and he kissed the top of her head]

Cora: [leans into him a bit, nodding] Thanks.

Peter: Now if you're good, I'm going to go sleep off the last few days.

Cora: [nods] I'm good. Just going to finish my homework.

Peter: I'll see you at dinner then. [and he's going to leave and head to his room]

Cora: [and she will do as she promised and go back to her homework before she has to go to class later. And totally not sniff out Stiles to talk to him. Nope.]

Stiles: [ he will totally be in the library after class, working on his homework with earbuds on and a pencil in his mouth as he's writing with the other one]

Cora: [she hangs back for a moment, watching him with a small smile before making her way closer and placing her books down on the table across from him]

Stiles: [he looks up with his eyes a moment just to see who was sitting down, and then he looks back up again and smiles as he pulls the earbuds out of his ear and drops the mouth pencil] Hey, you're alive and your brother hasn't chained you to the apartment!

Cora: [she laughs, actually laughs, before shaking her head] Nope. I am free to come and go as I please.

Stiles: Awesome.

Cora: So, um. Can I talk to you about something?

Stiles: Sure. What's up? [he uses his pencil like a bookmark to close his textbook with]

Cora: [she pauses for a moment, before pulling out the chair across from him as she pulled off her bag to sit] So ... my family being here. It's not exactly common knowledge.

Stiles: Oh?

Cora: After the fire we sort of ... try to keep a low profile?

Stiles: Why would you... did you think that whoever... oh, you did?

Cora: We're just ... careful. So if you can, can you ... just not mention that you know where we are? Especially with people from Beacon Hills.

Stiles: [leans closer] Am I in danger knowing where you are? Like is this some witness protection thing and there's going to be an agent coming and locking me in a room trying to make me not think you really exist?

Cora: [she laughs slightly before shaking her head] No. No, nothing like that, just ... they never caught the people who started the fire.

Stiles: Oh.... well that explains it then.

Cora: [nods] And not saying anything against you, but ... we'd just rather not take the risks. [and she really wants this, whatever it is they have, to stay. but she knows she needs to keep her family safe too] So ... can you keep it to yourself? Please?

Stiles: Yeah, sure. Totally can. [because the one thing Stiles is good at is hiding things from people and lying about it]

Cora: [she relaxes, before nodding] Thank you.

Stiles: [grins] So we're good then? You're not like banned from ever seeing me again and this is totally going to get us in trouble?

Cora: [smiles back at him] We're good. No evil family overlords to get in our way.

Stiles: Cool. So um... I need to finish this assignment for class tomorrow, but would you want to maybe grab some dinner after?

Cora: Actually, I have class in a half an hour but I get out at six?

Stiles: Wouldn't you know it, six is usually when I get hungry for dinner.

Cora: Perfect. I'll be at MRSEC.

Stiles: I'll find you there.

Cora: Okay. [and with that she'll get up to gather her books] Later.

Stiles: Later. [and he's going to sneak a look over his shoulder as she walks away because... well he's still male and she's hot, and then going to get back to work with a smug grin on his face until it's dinner time]

Cora: [which will be when she gets out of class and is going to come out of the building, looking around for any sign of him]

Stiles: [and he will be waiting just past the doors, backpack on and grinning and waving as he sees her] Hey Cora, over here.

Cora: [she turns at the sound of her name and smiles when she sees him] Hey. Where do you want to eat?

Stiles: Do you have any credit at the commissary, or we could like, hit up a Taco Bell. Or a diner. Or pizza, I'm really very flexible.

Cora: I like pizza.

Stiles: Pizza it is then.

Cora: Have a particular place in mind?

Stiles: I do. And it's not named after anyone. Trust me?

Cora: I think I can handle that.

Stiles: Great. [and he's going to latch his hands on his backpack straps and start walking them over to Bleeker street that's about a five minute walk from center of campus]

Cora: [will keep her hands on her own straps as she follows his lead] How was the homework? [wow that was lame]

Stiles: Completely uninteresting and lame. But you have to take these basic courses to get to the good stuff, right?

Cora: [nods] That's usually how it works.

Stiles: But yeah, half this stuff I know already, so it's easy. Just time consuming.

Cora: What kind of classes are you taking?

Stiles: Mostly the general classes, and then a coding 101.

Cora: So that's for like ... designing websites and stuff, right?

Stiles: Some of it. It also does programming on pretty much anything that run on a computer.

Cora: [nods slowly] I ... don't really know a lot about computers.

Stiles: Hey, it's fine. I just tend to be a big nerd about them so that's my thing. You have your thing too.

Cora: I do. Though my thing is chemical equations and a lot of math.

Stiles: Well, there's a lot of math in coding too. Kinda. Sorta...

Cora: Your math doesn't do cool things like cause magnesium to burn when combined with water.

Stiles: No... but... mine will.... no no that actually sounds cooler.

Cora: [grins] Chemistry is pretty cool.

Stiles: We had a dick of a chem teacher in high school so it kinda turned us off it.

Cora: Ah. That would do the trick. What are you taking for your gen ed science classes?

Stiles: Physics.

Cora: Also a lot of fun.

Stiles: Yeah. Last year we tried to figure out how to build a TARDIS. I swear we were almost close before the teacher shut the project down.

Cora: [her brow furrows for a moment. it sounds familiar but she can't quite place it] TARDIS?

Stiles: Doctor Who? The flying blue box that can travel through time and space... [blinks] you seriously don't know what I'm talking about?

Cora: [slightly apologetic smile] I don't watch a lot of TV.

Stiles: No, no this is unacceptable. You can't go through life without having at least seen Doctor Who. And Star Wars and a few other things but no, we're fixing this. We’re taking the pie to go and you're coming back to the dorms and we're going to start fixing this right now.

Cora: I've seen Star Wars! [for this universe and this universe only, thank you Alexis and Richard Castle]

Stiles: [grins] So there is some hope for you then.

Cora: [she laughs] I like to read. There's nothing wrong with that.

Stiles: No, nothing wrong with that at all. But some stuff isn't available in a book.

Cora: [she shrugs] Alexis's dad kind of took responsibility for my pop culture education, but he hasn't the time to show me everything.

Stiles: Maybe this is the reason we were destined to meet - to continue your education so you aren't left behind.

Cora: Well, I appreciate any help you can give me. I'm sure Rick does too.

Stiles: [and look, they are at Bleeker Street Pizza] So pie to go. I'm just a cheese guy here since I get weird looks when I ask for pineapple on my pizza.

Cora: [wrinkles her nose] I like meat toppings personally.

Stiles: [bites his lower lip] I can get it half pepperoni? We may just have to wait for him to cook us a fresh one.

Cora: [she shrugs] I'm good with cheese if you don't want to wait. I'm not a picky eater.

Stiles: Alright, one cheese pizza is it. Just hang out here for a sec. [goes in to order it, and then pokes his head back out] Drinks?

Cora: Water's fine.

Stiles: [nods and ducks back in. Five minutes later he's got a pizza box in one hand, balancing a bottle of water on top of it. He has a soda cup in his hand and sucking through a straw, grinning] Ta-dah!

Cora: [smiles] Do you need a hand?

Stiles: Well, the water is yours. But if you want to carry the pizza, I'm not going to stop you from taking it from me.

Cora: [she moves one hand to tip the box to grab her water easily as it rolls towards her, before taking the pizza from him] So where to?

Stiles: Back to campus and my room. Hal's got a night class so he won't be back until almost nine.

Cora: Cool. [and with that they will start heading that way but once they're back on campus and before they make it back to the dorms Cora hears the sound of her name from somewhere in the crowd and stops] Wait.

Alexis: [and there is a redhead running to catch up with them, but it takes a bit of time because Alexis was ... probably outside of the threshold of normal human hearing] I was just about to text you. Hey, Stiles.

Stiles: Hey Alexis. What's up?

Alexis: I just wanted to check that Cora was still on for Comic Con.

Cora: [cringes as she thinks for a moment] Can I wear the same thing I wore last year?

Alexis: [a long beat] Yeah, that should be fine. I think my dad's relinquishing the family theme idea this year.

Stiles: [wide eyes] You guys... got tickets to Comic Con?

Alexis: My dad is usually invited as a guest, so he gets us passes for stuff. Do you want to come? I'm trying to talk Hal into it, it might be easier if he has a friend there.

Cora: I don't think it's the actual attendance that Hal will have a problem with so much as the dress up requirements.

Stiles: Yeah, Hal's really not a geek. He doesn't get it, trust me, I've tried. But no, I'd love to go and I bet between our combined powers we can get him along. The dressing up will be the hard part.

Alexis: I will brainstorm. I figure there has to be something easy we can get him into. But great, awesome, I'll let my dad know that there's four of us so far.

Cora: Malia?

Alexis: [nods once] No idea what she's wearing but I'm sure she'll find something.

Stiles: If it's something that can look remotely normal, you'll have better luck. Like Wash from Firefly, or he may be willing to do Han.

Alexis: Han was what I was thinking, actually. Wash is a little obscure, he might not appreciate that one as much. Besides, he's more of a Mal anyway, personality wise. [a beat] Maybe you guys could match? If you wanted to do Luke or something?

Stiles: Totally down for that.

Alexis: [grins] Okay. I will text you all the details, but right now I have to run to class. I'll see you guys later. [another wave and off she goes.]

Cora: [nods before turning back to him] Okay then.

Stiles: [waves as she runs off] Okay. I'm going to comic con. Wow. Am I dreaming? This can't be real.

Cora: [laughs a bit] You didn't go to the one in California?

Stiles: I didn't have that kind of money.

Cora: Oh. [right. that was stupid] Well, you get to go now. Plus we get access to like ... everything.

Stiles: You better be careful or you may become my new best friend here.

Cora: [shy smile] I'd be okay with that.

Stiles: [licks his lips, smiling, and then nods with his head] Alright, if we're going to comic con, then we really need to catch you up on Doctor Who.

Cora: [nods again] Lead the way.

Stiles: [and they will get back to the dorm quickly and up the stairs to his room which - yeah - looks like two boys live there] Crap, um, Give me like five minutes to clean up.

Cora: [smirks a bit before nodding] Sure. Take your time.

Stiles: [clears a spot on the bed for her first, and then goes and literally picks all his stuff up and shoves it in the closet, and pushes all of Hal's stuff behind his desk] There. Okay, Doctor Who. Luckily it's on Netflix. [and he's going to go start up the 9th Doctor series]

Cora: [goes to sit up on the bed and places the pizza box between them, flipping it open so that they can both grab a slice as needed.]

Stiles: [and he's going to eat and will totally answer questions for her as they watch the first episode]

Cora: [she has a lot. Because the ninth series does sort of start in the middle, but she picks it up quickly enough]

Stiles: [and when it's done] So, what do you think? Continue on?

Cora: [considers for a moment before nodding as she works on ... finishing the last of her half of the pizza. Girl can eat] Yeah, sure.

Stiles: [he's noticing that, and his is almost equally ravaged anyway] Alright. [and he will start the next episode]

Cora: [and she will wait until the pizza is completely gone before closing the box and dropping it to the floor so that they could actually sit next to each other, if they wanted, without a cardboard box in the way]

Stiles: [no, he likes this plan. Heck, he was all a fan of the sleepy cuddly closeness before it had become death by older brother glaring]

Cora: [so was she. so she'll just inch closer so that they're sitting shoulder to shoulder]

Stiles: [and give him a minute and he's going to just do that thing where you stretch and then oh look nowhere else for the arm to go but along her back]

Cora: [well, she's not going to refuse the invitation. She'll shift that little bit closer, turning her body slightly so that she can rest comfortably against his shoulder]

Stiles: [yeah, he likes that. He misses that. And while he's paying attention to the TV, he's totally not thinking about kissing her. I mean, he did just meet her. He really shouldn't be thinking about that but he totally is]

Cora: [she honestly wouldn't know what to do with that, mostly because it's only really happened to her once or twice. But she's not entirely sure she'd be opposed to it either. The biggest thing with Stiles is that for some unknown reason, he actually feels safe. Which is why, for the second time in as many days, she's quietly drifting off to sleep, the lull of British sci-fi sealing the deal]

Stiles: [he sees that and he looks down at her, smiling a bit. He doesn't want to move though, because except for Lydia, he's never had a girl interested in him. And he's hit a point where he's learning to just enjoy life and what it throws at him since his time has a shorter timeframe now than others. So he will let her sleep as he gently readjusts himself, and he'll switch to something else to watch after so he doesn't skip any of it on her]

Cora: [she will probably be out for a while, because she probably got a grand total of three hours of sleep the night before. She'll sleep until it starts getting late, and her phone starts going off, with family looking to know where she is]

Stiles: [and he drifted off a bit there himself, and he blinks and sits up a bit] Cora, hey your phone is going off.

Cora: [there's a soft hmmm? before her hand goes and pats down her pockets to find her phone. There's a brief glance at the caller ID before she answers] Hello? [And she finishes talking to Malia which pretty much adds up to "get your butt home" she pulls back with a soft sigh] How long was I out?

Stiles: Um... two hours. Were you supposed to be home by now?

Cora: Not exactly, I just said I wouldn't be late when I let them know I wasn't coming home for dinner. [she sits up a little more, before glancing back to him with a small smile] I should go.

Stiles: [rotates his shoulder that had fallen asleep] Yeah, no you should. Don't need to be the one that keeps getting you in trouble.

Cora: I didn't tell them it was you. Just that I was having dinner with a friend. [she shifts off the bed and goes to find her shoes] Sorry I keep falling asleep on you.

Stiles: Nah, it's fine. I'm just going to add that I'm a professional body pillow to my resume. All good.

Cora: Okay. [she just hope he gets that it's not because she's bored, because it's not in the slightest. Shoes are on, and she grabs her jacket and her bag] I do like what I remember of Doctor Who though.

Stiles: Maybe we can watch more another day?

Cora: Yeah. I'd like that.

Stiles: [goes to walk her to the door] .... Would it be weird if I wanted to kiss you? [and he makes that face, the I can't believe I asked that sorry but can I?]

Cora: [her eyes go a little wide, more in surprise than anything else, and her brow furrows in confusion] Me?

Stiles: No, the invisible girl sitting on your shoulder. [nods]

Cora: [she flushes quickly, surprised and flattered, and not really sure what to do, but eventually she manages to look up and look him in the eye before shaking her head that no, it wouldn't be weird]

Stiles: Is that a no you don't mind, or a no I'll slap you? [he steps a bit closer though, biting his own lip nervously]

Cora: I don't mind. [her voice is so quiet she's not entirely sure if he heard her with his human hearing but it's there. she said it]

Stiles: [no, but he's good at reading lips. Since he's looking at them and all. And he's going to lower his head slowly, his hand caressing her cheek as he kisses her gently]

Cora: [she tips her head back just enough to get comfortable, meeting him in the kiss though beyond that she doesn't quite react. Then there's a beat and her hands slowly move to his shoulders to brace herself as she takes a step closer]

Stiles: [nope, he's very happy with this and he will grin into the kiss, going to kiss her a bit harder when... the door opens on them]

Hal: Whoops... sorry guys...

Alexis: [mouth drops a little before there is a shameless grin. Because she was clearly following him back to his room to work on the Comic Con enabling] Hi.

Cora: [breaks the kiss and is blushing hard running her hand through her hair before she looks back at him] I uh. I was just leaving.

Alexis: Mmm-hmmm.

Hal: Looks like we need to come up with a girl in the room system.

Stiles: Dude, we were just watching Doctor Who and had pizza...

Cora: [is just going to quietly try and escape, via being a quiet, sneaky werewolf]

Alexis: [just looks amused] I don't know - it might be good to have one, just in case.

Stiles: [and is going to be left to deal with Alexis and Hal and didn't even get to finish their first kiss. sigh]

Cora: [sorry, Stiles. She'll make it up to you.]
