feel the noise } { of weekends away and cheating

[Sam agreeing to go away for the weekend with Buffy is his first long trip without Olivia, and he’s being a typical nervous nelly of a father. Eventually his daughter gets fed up and takes to shoving him out the door.]

Olivia: Dad, go.

Sam: I just want to make sure you have everything you need.

Olivia: If I get into trouble, I go to Elena's or Alaric's. Alaric is in running distance so it will probably be him. The crossbow is in the closet and I'll keep up the salt lines on the windows and doors. [she's got this.] Go. Have fun.

Sam: [bites his lip, so torn. This is his baby girl] You have enough money? Only order from places we have already preapproved as being safe.

Olivia: [sighs heavily and moves behind him, placing her hands against his shoulder blades and pushing] Yes. I know the rules.

Sam: Are you really sure you don't want Dean to stay here...?

Olivia: Dad. I'm sixteen. I have to be able to be on my own sometime. Think of it as a test run for college.

Sam: Don't remind me. [grew up too fast]

Olivia: [gets him to the door, before turning to face him] It's just a weekend. You're not leaving me forever.

Sam: I'm a worrier. You know this. And you're my baby girl, so I don't want to let you get into any harm

Olivia: I know. But you also have a beautiful woman who wants to you to take her away for the weekend. I will be fine. [and she pushes him towards the door again] Go.

Sam: [goes to pick up his bag, then just turns and hugs his daughter] Be safe, okay?

Olivia: [hugs him back, pressing her cheek against his chest as she does] I will.

Sam: [his kisses the top of her head, just holding her for a moment and knowing these kinds of hugs were going to slowly become fewer and far between] I love you, baby girl. [he let her go and stepped back, taking a deep breath as he reached for his bag.] And no boys.

Olivia: [nods] Absolutely not. [there will totally be a boy]

Sam: Because I can see the security cams from my phone. [he waves it at her, smirking just a bit as he opens the door to head out]

Olivia: [rolls her eyes, before waving him off as well]

Sam: [jogs down to the car he is renting for the weekend that isn't a minivan meant to carry half a band camp and puts his bag in the trunk, then heads out to go pick up Buffy]

Buffy: [is totally not waiting at the door for him to get there nope.]

Sam: [he strolls up, knocking on the door and hoping she isn't upset he's a little late]

Buffy: [she bounces over to the door and opens it with a smile] Hey. Ready to go?

Sam: Yeah, completely. Where's your bags? [because he'll carry them to the car for her]

Buffy: [aww that's sweet. She turns back and grabs her bag before nodding] Right here.

Sam: [grabs the bags and puts them in the car] So it's not a far drive, but I got us a beachside cabin just like you were hoping

Buffy: Really? [super pleased] I haven't been to the beach in a long time.

Sam: I remember you telling me that. I didn't even know Iowa had a beach until I went looking.

Buffy: Well, I'm glad you looked.

Sam: Yeah, me too. So, what do you want to do when we get there?

Buffy: [she shrugs] Swimming? Maybe just sitting out in the sun for a while?

Sam: I hope I brought enough lotion. I have lobster skin

Buffy: Really? I thought you would be the type to get all golden and tanlike.

Sam: It depends on how much exposure I get and if I'm careful.

Buffy: Well hopefully we will avoid any aloe emergencies.

Sam: Hope so. I enjoy massages, but not that way

Buffy: Massages. Duly noted.

Sam: [chuckles] we can take turns. Suntan lotion doesn't rub itself in

Buffy: No it does not. And I was thinking possibly some ... less practical massages too.

Sam: Did I mention that the cabin has a jacuzzi for two in it?

Buffy: See, you are making my argument for the beach seem less and less important.

Sam: Well, if the weather goes bad, we still have options. And if there's one thing I know how to do well, its picking out motels.

Buffy: Then I guess I'll have to hope for rain.

Sam: [laugh] Well, at least one day with sun so you can enjoy the beach.

Buffy: True. One sunny day for beach times.

Sam: But just one. After that, you're cut off.

Buffy: They do say too much sun is bad for you.

Sam: Way bad for you. It's only for your own protection.

Buffy: So long as I have company, being inside can't be too bad.

Sam: Well, you're trapped with me for the weekend. I hope that's enough company to satisfy you.

Buffy: [she smiles] That sounds like all the company I need.

Sam: [smiles back] So do I need to stop and get us something to munch on while I drive?

Buffy: [shakes her head] Nope. I am good for snacks. I come prepared.

Sam: Awesome. I think I have a water bottle, but that's all I need.

Buffy: Really? I can share if you want. I've got Chex Mix and Goldfish?

Sam: Goldfish? My ultimate weakness.

Buffy: Another thing that is duly noted.

[And there is some driving and munching and chatting and eventually they arrive at their destination.]

Sam: [tosses Buffy the key to the cabin as he goes to get the bags] We have it through Monday afternoon.

Buffy: [looks it over as she catches the key] It's nice. How did you find it?

Sam: Research.

Buffy: Ahh. I am not so good with the research.

Sam: [is not saying anything about that, but just smiles and carries the bags up the stairs]

Buffy: [opens the door and heads inside, holding open the door for him as she does]

Sam: [comes in and looks at the cabin] Wow, this is very rustic.

Buffy: Yeah, but it's nice. Makes you feel like you're alone in the world.

Sam: I do like the privacy too. Those windows have to be for the jacuzzi...

Buffy: [oooh, jacuzzi. She wanders over to investigate that for herself] Yep. We can pretend that everyone else doesn't exist for a little while.

Sam: You may have to help distract me. It's the first time I've left Olivia alone for most than a night. She's way too much like Dean, so I'm almost certain she's already planning a party.

Buffy: [she smirks a bit] A little fun could be good for her. She's a little more like you than you think. [ she makes her way across the room, before pushing up on her toes (she loves that he's tall)] But I think I could provide the necessary distractions.

Sam: [grins and leans down, touching her nose with his] And what kind of distraction are you thinking about right now?

Buffy: Well, I was thinking of starting with a little of this ... [she leans in to kiss him softly] ... and if that doesn't work, I have secret weapons.

Sam: [is glad he isn't holding the bags so he can cup her cheeks as she kisses him. he then grins] I have seen your weapon closet and the thought of your secret weapons scares me. [he's teasing.]

Buffy: [she smirks a bit] Not those secret weapons.

Sam: Oh, that's even scarier. [he grins and leans down to kiss her again, pulling her closer]

Buffy: [pushes up on her toes to meet him, her hands moving to his ribs to steady herself as she leans in closer]

Sam: [is just fine standing there, slightly leaning over, kissing her until he needs breath] Why don't we unpack, and we can go explore while the sun's still up.

Buffy: [nods as she settles back onto her feet] Sounds good.

Sam: [goes to bring their bags to the bedroom and it's a huge bed, romantic (it was a romantic getaway cabin he booked) with red trimmings]

Buffy: [follows his lead, glancing around as she does and smirking a bit at the bed] Fancy.

Sam: Well, I was going for atmosphere. You know, in case of bad weather and we got trapped inside.

Buffy: This definitely has atmosphere. [she might not even wait for bad weather]

Sam: [grins] So where do you want to go first? Beach or hiking trails?

Buffy: Beach. Hiking seems more of an all-day affair.

Sam: Alright, beach it is. Let me just find my trunks...

Sam: [grabs his trunks and debates on if he should sneak into the bathroom to change...]

Buffy: [ will beat him to it, most likely, grabbing her suit and making her way to the door] I'll be right out.

Sam: Okay. [waits until the door closes and he quickly changes himself into his shorts and a t-shirt and sandals, then goes to wait by the door]

Buffy: [changes into her swimsuit, with a tank top and shorts, before making her way back out for her sandals] We need towels and ... sunscreen.

Sam: Right. [ goes back to their room to grab those.] Grab water bottles too.

Buffy: [nods as she wanders over to the cooler to grab some to fill up]

Sam: [has the towels over his shoulder and hesitates a minute, then puts his phone down by the door. He doesn't need to take it with him, he reminds himself firmly]

Buffy: [catches up with him, bottles in hand, before slipping her hand into his] Ready?

Sam: Yeah, I think I am. [his smile grows a bit more]

Buffy: Then let's go. [and with that she tugs on his hand, pulling him down to the beach]

Sam: [he laughs, letting himself be dragged. The beach is beautiful with the little cove of the larger lake. There are paddle boats to use, canoes and a dock and further out a float for people to sit and dive off of] You know, this is very cabin in the woods looking.

Buffy: The good or bad kind?

Sam: The kind where you're waiting for the serial killer in a hockey mask to come out of the woodworks.

Buffy: Well, if they do, I came prepared. [she's a Slayer. She doesn't go anywhere without a weapon]

Sam: [especially her secret weapons] Hey, I'm not going to be the helpless blonde teenager in this either, you know. [laughs]

Buffy: [teasing] Of course not. You're too tall for that.

Sam: Thanks for the vote of confidence. [laughs still, rolling his eyes]

Buffy: [amused] I'm just used to doing the saving. Force of habit.

Sam: Well, let's see you save yourself from this. [and he picks her up and tosses her over his shoulder. he kicks off his sandals, heading for the dock]

Buffy: [there's a shriek of laughter as she lets herself be hauled, her legs kicking a bit as she tosses the water bottles back towards where he dropped their stuff. Hopefully they don't explode]

Sam: [and he's trying to hold her as she wiggles, taking her to the edge of the dock and checking to depth of the water] Time to see how the water is, Buffy! [and yes, he's going to toss her in if she doesn't stop him]

Buffy: [doesn't necessarily have the leverage to stop him but she will get a fistful of his shirt] If I go in, I'm taking you with me.

Sam: If you insist.... [he takes a few steps back, then runs a few steps and jumps, sending them both into the water with a splash!]

Buffy: Nono - [there's a soft shriek as he takes off but she manages to hold her breath before she hits the water, trying to use it to wiggle away from him]

Sam: [he lets her go pretty quickly in the air, and he has a shit eating grin at her under the water]

Buffy: [she kicks her way to the surface, giving him a not-so-serious scowl as she surfaces] Cheating.

Sam: [surfaces] I was not cheating. I have my own secret weapons, that's all.

Buffy: Uh-huh. [shakes her head a bit, trying to clear the water]

Sam: [swims a bit closer] Plus I'm really sure you could have escaped if you had wanted to.

Buffy: [she shrugs slightly] Sometimes I like to pretend I'm a normal girl for a little while. [even if she isn't]

Sam: [is close enough to tread water while he tucks some hair out of her face and behind her ear] I've never seen you as being not normal.

Buffy: [stares at him for a moment, before her head ducks sheepishly] Thank you.

Sam: [he grinned, running his thumb along her cheek] So, race you to the dock?

Buffy: Done. [there's barely a beat before] Onyourmarkgetsetgo! [annnnnd she's already swimming]

Sam: [laughs and goes after her. Her speed vs. his longer limbs will make an interesting race]

Buffy: [that's why she got herself a head start to be honest - she has to kick twice as hard to maintain her speed, and as the dock comes up into view, she slaps her hand down on it]

Sam: [he's a second behind her, and panting hard as he flips his hair back] And you called me a cheater.

Buffy: [she pushes herself up on the dock, and sits as she smirks at him] I was just taking my short person handicap.

Sam: Uh huh. Sure. [goes to tickle her feet still in the water]

Buffy: [squirms her feet away from him as she pulls off her tank top, wanting to wring the water out some]

Sam: [plants his hands onto the dock on the sides of her hips, watching her strip] Nice suit.

Buffy: Thank you. [she gives her shirt a hard twist] You might have seen it sooner if you gave me a chance to get settled before manhandling me into the water.

Sam: No, the manhandling was worth the extra five minutes of you being clothed. [grins]

Buffy: [she gives him a bit of a look before swiping her foot to kick some water at him]

Sam: [ducks underwater, swimming under the float to try and come up on the other side instead]

Buffy: [frowns as she places her shirt off to the side, wondering where he went] Sam?

Sam: [explodes out of the water, pulling himself up on the float with his arms]

Buffy: [turns at the sound just in time to see ... that picture which is a very nice picture]

Sam: [once he's up on the raft, he's also pulling his shirt off.] When in Rome.

Buffy: [grins a bit as she watches the shirt come off] Or just at the beach.

Sam: Speaking of which, we left the sunscreen on the sand.

Buffy: I could go back for it?

Sam: [looks up at the sky] Well, there are a lot of clouds. We may be fine...

Buffy: [makes a face] No, clouds are worse. You could still burn. I'll go get it.

Sam: I'll wait here.

Buffy: [she goes over to get it, taking her shirt with her. Once she gets there, she kicks out of her shorts too, lying her shirt and shorts out to dry. She then grabs the sunscreen and makes her way back to the dock] Still want that massage?

Sam: [has just been enjoying the view the whole time. When she's back, he nodded] You think I'd say no?

Buffy: Just double checking. [she flips the top of the bottle as she moves to sit next to him]

Sam: And I'll get you after.

Buffy: [nods as she sits next to him, squirting the lotion into her hand] Front or back first.

Sam: Back. That way if your hands get tired, I can do the front myself.

Buffy: [turns and gestures for him to sit back to her] I think I can manage.

Sam: [he shifts, moving to sit cross-legged on the float and stare off at the forest] So you have plans for the summer yet?

Buffy: [shrugs a but as she goes to work, smoothing her hands over his shoulders] My sister will probably be here for a bit, but beyond that, not much.

Sam: I was thinking of taking Olivia on a road trip. Let her see some college campuses and maybe try and see if she has any ideas on places she may like.

Buffy: Sounds like fun. She'll probably love it.

Sam: I hope so. Plus I can show her some parts of the country I like.

Buffy: [her fingers trail over his back, her hands working his shoulders gently as she does] You and your brother used to travel a lot, right?

Sam: All the time from when I was twenty two until I got Olivia.

Buffy: Must be nice, having seen so much of the country.

Sam: Well, from when I was born until I left for college, Dad dragged us from motel to motel. It was nice, and this country is really beautiful in some places, but until Olivia... I never had a home.

Buffy: I take that back. It must have been nice to get Olivia.

Sam: I think she's one of the best things that I ever did. [and that's saying a lot]

Buffy: Well, you did a good job with her. She's a great kid.

Sam: I was so afraid I was going to ruin her life when I first got her. I didn't have a good track record back then. [season 4-6 feels]

Buffy: Good to see that everything worked out.

Sam: Same here. So what was little Buffy's life like?

Buffy: Started out pretty normal. Mom, Dad, kid sister [that actually didn't exist, shhhh] until I was sixteen and I got Called and my parents got divorced.

Sam: Sounds like a sour sixteen right there.
