canon au } of female visitors and small worlds

Sheriff: [is in his office, doing his thing]

Parrish: [is at his desk, not doing his thing. Totally reading the bestiary]

Jody: [makes her way in, having left the girls in the car after enrolling them in school, much to their frustration. Things were still settling with Claire, but she's a good kid underneath all of the stubborn teenager, and she doesn't buck as much as Annie does. Apparently a ringing endorsement from Sam and Dean goes a long way. That being said, she still needs a job, which is why she's wandering in and leaning on the front desk to get Parrish's attention] Hey there. Any chance the Sheriff's around?

Parrish: [snapping that book shut so fast] Um, yeah, he's in. Can I tell him who's asking?

Jody: Jody Mills?

Parrish: [nods, picking up the phone and paging the Sheriff] Sir, there is a Jody Mills here to see you?

Sheriff: Oh, I'll be right there. [and cue standing up quickly and hitting his knee on the side of the desk before moving to the door, trying not to look like he's in pain] Jody, hi come in.

Jody: [still smiles when she sees him, and pretends that she didn't see that small dance of grace] Thanks, Parrish. [because she pays attention, and she'll just make her way around the desk and into his office]

Parrish: [and nope, he's going to just watch over his shoulder because when does a woman come calling on the sheriff that isn't Nurse McCall. Danger, Will Robinson, danger.]

Sheriff: [motions to a chair] Have a seat. I didn't know you were coming out here on vacation. I would have scheduled a vacation day to show you around.

Jody: [goes to take a seat before running her hands over the arms of the chair] That's because I'm not on vacation. I just moved here, actually.

Sheriff: ...... Seeing that we both know about things... why would you come here after everything I've told you.

Jody: Because apparently the Winchester brothers are turning my house into the Jody Mills Home for Supernaturally Damaged Teenage Girls. [she pauses, before giving a bit of a shrug] I figure if at least there are other teenagers here that know about things, they won't have to worry about lying as much. Maybe they can be themselves a little more.

Sheriff: ... Well, you're not wrong in that. How old is Annie? And I take it there's another now?

Jody: Annie is seventeen and Claire is eighteen, but she's been out of school for a while, so we're going to have her test in and see how she does. She's a smart kid, and if school doesn't work we'll see about a GED but her life's been so out of whack for a while I'm trying to give her a bit of normal.

Sheriff: Well, my son's finishing out his senior year, as well as the kids in his... well pack. Though one of them is a sophomore so probably too young to be with them. But they can at least get them a bit acclimated.

Jody: That's what I'm hoping. They won't be starting until the fall anyway.

Sheriff: Well, let me know when, and I will get my son and his friends to come over and meet the girls.

Jody: That'd be great. Or even if they could just start with meeting Stiles - it's Stiles, right? I have a feeling easing them into this would be good in small doses.

Sheriff: I'll suggest it. But there may be a tag along. I can't promise he will go alone.

Jody: That's fine. Just not ... dropping them into a giant party or something.

Sheriff: Nah, he'd usually smart enough not to do that. [mostly]

Jody: [she nods again in agreement, before glancing up again] But teenage playdates aren't the reason I'm here. I was actually wondering if you had any openings.

Sheriff: Yeah... openings are something that I always have. After the explosion last year, we've had a low level of applicants

Jody: I've survived zombies, vampires and dragons. I think I can handle it.

Sheriff: Think you can get your old station to transfer you over? I can push the paperwork through quicker that way.

Jody: Given that I was the sheriff, I don't think it would be a problem. I'll call them after I leave here.

Sheriff: Good. You think you can handle going back down to being a deputy?

Jody: If I'm working under the right sheriff, I don't think it'll be a problem. [that may have been slightly flirty. Testing the waters a little. Nothing serious, but it's there all the same]

Sheriff: Well, I'm only as good as the deputies under me. [he got that, and back to the awkward not knowing how to flirt as he rubs the back of his neck, not knowing how suggestive his own words were] Come on, I'll introduce you to my second in command.

Jody: [she can't help the small hint of a smirk as she nods, before getting up to follow him] Sure thing.

Sheriff: [walks her to the door] Like I said, the explosion thinned our numbers a lot, and a few other incidents... well, don't judge him by his baby face. Parrish!

Parrish: [slamming the book shut again, standing up quickly] Sir?

Sheriff: Come here, I want to introduce you. This is Sheriff Jody MIlls from Souix Falls, recently relocated to Beacon Hills.

Jody: [smiles as she holds out her hand to him] Nice to meet you officially.

Parrish: Same here, ma'am. It'll be nice having a few more people with some experience under their belts to learn from. That is, if you're going to be joining us.

Sheriff: We're going to see, but I don't think it'll be a problem. Sheriff Mills has the same degree of specialty knowledge that we have and will be a great asset here.

Parrish: [confused, and then he nods] Oh, I see.

Jody: So ... how many of us are around - just out of curiosity?

Sheriff: In the station? Myself, Parrish and his partner, Miller. Though we also have a currently occupying an office FBI agent who is going to be filled in as soon as his son gets the nerve up to doing it.

Jody: [nods slowly] So a real FBI agent, not a hunter in an FBI suit.

Sheriff: Yes, real FBI. Though we have a few....

Parrish: Slayers.

Sheriff: Right, slayers.

Jody: ... What are Slayers?

Parrish: Supernaturally charged warrior women. Think modern day amazons taught to fight vampires.

Jody: Coulda used one of those up in Sioux Falls. We kind of had a recurring vampire problem.

Parrish: I haven't heard of any vampire problems here. Just a bunch of other problems. [like the ninja poster that was still on the pole behind Parrish's shoulder]

Jody: Oh, that's fine. I could do with something new and I catch on quick.

Sheriff: Well, you'll have to. we're in a bit of a lull at the moment, and while the kids find that being a good thing, I know that all things have to end eventually.

Jody: At least they get lulls. As far as I can see the Winchesters never catch a break. Ever.

Parrish: You know the Winchesters?

Jody: Oh yeah. We go way back.

Parrish: Small world.

Jody: [gestures to the sheriff] That's how John and I met. They decided to crash the Sheriff's convention. [and there were some vampires, but let's save that for later]

Parrish: My partner is.... friends with one of their son's.

Jody: [her eyebrows go up a bit at that pause, and she smirks a little] I'm gonna guess Ben. Michael seems a little too gun shy, poor kid. He gets that from his father.

Parrish: That's the one.

Jody: He seems like a good kid. I don't really know any of them that well - I only met them once or twice.

Parrish: He's... interesting. A bit too cocky but he's a good guy under it.

Jody: That sounds like his father.

Parrish: I've only met the older ones once, so I can't really say.

Jody: [she nods] Well, I'm sure with me here now, you'll probably get your chance. They need a maternal touch every now and again. [she's totally that mom who embarrasses her not!children every chance she gets]

Parrish: Not sure if that's going to be a good thing. [but there is a small smirk]
