spamalot } { of missing sons and ancient alphas
Liam: [yeah, he's going to notice that and just roll his eyes.]
Landon: [LOOK HE DOESN'T COMPLAIN ABOUT HOW YOU PICK UP ON ALL HIS EMOTIONS OR SMELLING EVERYTHING. HE CAN'T HELP HIS NATURE, OKAY? HE'S NOT TOUCHING THEM HE'S JUST LOOKING.]
Liam: [hey he doesn't go around sniffing you all the time to see where you've been and so not the same thing. Control, boyfriend. Control. Or he will put his shirt back on]
Landon: [Liam, that will backfire on you and make you less of a distraction.]
Liam: [fine. but he is going to squirt you with water from his water bottle when he goes to take a break] You're drooling just a bit.
Landon: [sputters, and rolls his eyes] I'm not.
Liam: You totally were. Brett noticed. He was trying to flex to see if he could break you.
Landon: [glances over at him before shaking his head] Didn't notice that.
Brett: [sees that and just nods hello]
Liam: [small possessive growl]
Landon: [sighs] Oh my God, you do realize that shirtless guys are around all the time. I can't even look at them to acknowledge their existence? [and waves his hand in Brett's direction in return] Like to say hi?
Liam: No. [and he slips up to stand in front of him in his own shirtless glory, and then leans in to kiss him. Brett laughs at that because he knows that Liam is doing]
Landon: [and Landon will kiss him back, because he would be dumb not to, melting into it easily as one hand moves to the back of Liam's neck]
Liam: [ignoring the cat calls from his teammates. These are his friends, and the dumb asshole who made his life hell freshman year graduated and he's gotten more relaxed in his sexuality since Landon came into his life. But he will pull back and smirk] that good enough reason?
Landon: [distracted momentarily, before sighing softly] You're being ridiculous. [because he's not going to back down on this. He's around shirtless guys all the time (especially in ballroom) and it's something Liam's going to have to get used to.] And you need to trust me.
Liam: I do trust you. That's not the issue.
Landon: Then what is? Because this feels like lack of trust on my end.
Liam: I'm sorry. I just... I think I'm just being possessive. I don't like the idea of sharing.
Landon: I'm not asking you to share.
Liam: [nods] Dad said that sometimes wolves get very strong feelings sometimes like that. Especially when they are around their mates. [yup, that's him biting his lips]
Landon: ["mates" is a big word, and he's not sure he knows how to handle that right now in front of all his lacrosse friends but he does visibly falter for a moment, and swallows] Look, I get it, okay? But you have to trust that even if my eyes wander a little, I'm not about to actually do anything. It's a strong instinct for me too.
Liam: [nods] I know that.
Landon: So just ... trust me. I'm around shirtless guys a lot. I've gotten good at keeping my hands to myself.
Liam: He starts nodding, and then just stops. He looks to his side, then behind him quickly, his eyes scanning the field but all he sees are his friends] Someone's here.
Landon: [is more than willing to drop the subject at that, pushing up onto his feet and letting his eyes scan the area for any sign of someone not a teenager]
Liam: [he tries to sniff the air but he can't pick up anything] Do you see anything?
Landon: [he shakes his head no, but then he tries something else. Even if someone might not be visually present, he can be trained to pick up on a person's presence and he tries to find a void in the piles and piles of teenage hormones]
Lucas: [and Landon will notice that there is a tiny void towards the edge of the school. A wolf who is very skilled at stalking and repressing his scent. And someone who's been studying the incubus as well]
Landon: [his attention draws to the school and he's got a Bad Feeling, so he just reaches down and takes Liam's hand] We should go.
Liam: Yeah, let me just grab my stuff. [including his shirt, which he pulls on quickly and goes to grab his stick and bag]
Landon: [just keeps watching that spot, not taking his eyes off it until he knows they're free and clear]
Lucas: [and the void will fade away as he goes to disappear behind the school, putting the big building between them]
Liam: You saw something, didn't you?
Landon: More like felt. [when the void disappears behind the school he looks back to Liam and tugs on his hand] Let's go. Where's the car?
Liam: Parking lot on the library side. [and off they go to the car, and everything looks just fine.]
Landon: [keeps his senses open, trying to feel for the void again, but mostly just rushing them to the car. He's not a werewolf, he doesn't have strength and speed - most he can do is try to seduce the bad guy out of doing whatever it's going to do and he feels like that will be a little useless here] Maybe we should have brought Brett with us.
Liam: No, I don't want to get him caught up in this. [and in the car they go, but guess what is not going to start when he puts the key in the ignition]
Landon: Shit. [still, he doesn't move, eyes on the windows] We really should have brought Brett.
Liam: [he goes to try the ignition and over his shoulder, Landon will see Lucas moving into view just around the side of the building and pressing a button on a remote. A second later, a gas is going to start to come through the vents - sleeping gas with just enough wolfsbane to make Liam unable to heal from it right away]
Landon: [will try and press at him quickly to shove him out of the car towards the fresh air] Get out of the car. Get out of the car!
Liam: [and he's going to try the doors, but look, they are locked] I can't... I can't open them! [he's going to start coughing, his hand going to try and just break the door open. Sorry mom]
Landon: [she'll forgive you this time, and Landon will struggle through it to try and help him. Then he'll remember it's Fiona's car and reach for the glove box and try and check under the seat to see if she left anything helpful in there]
Lucas: [he's just going to wait long enough to know that there's enough in their lungs that they won't put up too much of a struggle, and he's going to saunter over and open Landon's side. He has a gas mask on now, and he's got a needle in his hand]
Landon: [he sees the needle, and comes up empty on the guns. He's feeling woozy but he doesn't miss the slide of a switchblade into his palm from under the seat. So with what little dancer's grace he has left, he turns and tries to slam his legs into the man's stomach with a hard kick, while twisting and slamming the end of the blade ... right into his boyfriend's thigh. He's hoping it'll make Liam howl which will at least draw some attention from the werewolf on the lacrosse field at least]
Liam: [fuck OW Landon! Yeah, that is him howling in pain]
Lucas: Nice try. [he'll take the hit, but it's like kicking a brick wall. he's going to reach in and try to slam Landon's head into the dashboard before aiming to inject the knockout drug into his neck]
Landon: [and down for the count he goes. but hopefully help is coming?]
Brett: [he heard it and yeah, he's coming, but it's going to be too late. he'll be able to spot Lucas pulling Liam into a van and it's speeding away before the door is even shut the rest of the way. He knows he won't catch it. But he sees Landon and goes over to him] Landon? Hey, wake up.
Landon: [nope. unconscious. will be out for a while. Incubi aren't built for those kinds of fights, but he'll probably come around by the time Derek and Fiona get here. But there's a bloody knife in the driver's side foot well and a rather impressive bruise forming on his forehead]
Brett: [and he's going to stay there, having smelt the wolfsbane and pulled Landon out to get him fresh air by the side of the building.]
Derek: [had gotten there and talked with Brett, describing what he had seen. He's on the phone with the Sheriff to get him there as he's waiting for Fiona to arrive... and then reluctantly calling Landon's mother because her son was attacked]
Landon: [is just bracing himself against the brick wall as he starts to come too, slowly at first, but then his head jerks up as he remembers what was happening and he ... slams it into the wall behind him which just makes stars explode in front of his eyes some more] Shit!
Brett: Whoa, dude take it easy. [and he's taking Landon's hand, trying to pull some of that pain from him]
Derek: [kneeling down in front of him] Landon, hey, relax. [he puts his hand on the boy's shoulder]
Landon: [he looks up at Derek and he's terrified because he didn't do his job, wanting to shove the hands off him even if he isn't coordinated enough to do it at the moment] I tried. I tried to stop him, I did, I swear.
Derek: Yeah, I can tell. You're going to be bruised for a while. [he's trying not to freak out. He needs to be the strong one here] What do you remember?
Landon: [it's all kind of fuzzy, but he closes his eyes and tries to focus] Liam got the feeling he was being watched again and I ... I didn't see him at first, but I picked up on his signature and I said we should go. When we got to the car it wouldn't start and he locked the doors and started pumping the gas through the vents. I checked for weapons, and he got rid of the guns but I found a knife under one of the seats so when he tried to inject me with something I stabbed Liam with it. [there's a beat] After that, it's all kinda blurry.
Derek: It looks like you took something to the head. Just close your eyes and rest. You did what you could. [he stands up, trying to smell the air and find his son's blood trail]
Sheriff: [arrives at this point] Derek?
Derek: Someone took my son. [gives him the details from the van Brett got including a partial plate number]
Sheriff: Let me run it. Text me a picture of him and I'll get it out on an amber alert immediately.
Landon: [just slumps a bit against the wall, leaning a bit into Brett before mumbling] Thanks for coming.
Brett: Hey, no problem. Liam's a pain in the ass sometimes, but he's my friend. [chuckles] You really stabbed him?
Landon: [he nods] I figured if he was hurt he would howl, and you weren't far away. Plus, pain is how you guys heal right? Maybe it'll give him an edge against whoever it is.
Brett: [listening to Derek and the Sheriff] There was wolfsbane in the car. Maybe now that he's not in there he will, but if it got into his lungs, it'll keep him from healing.
Landon: Great. [sighs, scrubbing a hand over his face] Perfect.
Brett: They'll find him, I'm sure. They can't have gotten too far.
Landon: They should bring a SWAT team. The guy is ... strong. Super strong.
Brett: Strong like we are strong?
Landon: Strong like I full on donkey kicked him in the gut and he didn't even flinch. It was like I was kicking a wall.
Brett: Yeah, crap that's not good.
Derek: [hearing that and looking over at them, eyebrows going up]
Landon: [catches that and shrugs] I think he was a wolf, though. The signature was similar.
Derek: [yeah, and that's going to spark him to text his mom. Strength like that means either age or alpha]
Mona: [temporarily that because I can't remember her name at the moment] Was there some kind of turf war happening that I should have been aware of?
Derek: No. Liam had a feeling he was being followed, but we haven't had a problem here in over a year.
Sheriff: That's true. We've been quiet.
Mona: How comforting. [except not at all. She strides past both men before dropping down in front of her son, effectively ignoring Brett for the moment] Jesus, look at you. C'mon, get up.
Landon: Me and up are not exactly compatible at the moment.
Mona: [sighs] Yeah, we're definitely going to the hospital.
Derek: Jason should be on shift. I'll let him know you're going so you can skip the waiting room.
Mona: Thank you. [glances over to Brett] Are you of vital importance at the moment? [meaning does the sheriff still need him]
Sheriff: I need to get both their statements, but I can meet you both at the hospital once I get the crime scene here and going.
Mona: Great. Then that's where he'll be. [to Brett] Help me get him up. Slowly, unless you want projectile vomit all over you. [she just has a way with words, doesn't she?]
Brett: [yeah, he's going to shake his head - both a no and a are you kidding, and then helping Landon up slowly and they are on their way to the hospital]
Derek: [waiting on Fiona and trying not to let the scene scare him to his core]
Fiona: [she arrives not long after Landon's mother leaves, and she's gone from fear to straight up anger at this point] What the hell?!
Derek: [the sheriff is talking to the CSI team, so Derek pulls her to the side] It wasn't a human who took him. Landon saw him, but he's got a concussion at minimum so we'll get something out of him soon.
Fiona: [exhales slowly, before glancing around] I haven't heard anything back on Liam's dad yet. But there has to be something if another wolf is grabbing him for some reason.
Derek: We need to know also why his pack was killed. In case this is still tied to that.
Fiona: [she nods] They never found the hunter who did it. Maybe I should start digging into that again.
Derek: Yeah. This time I'm pretty sure you're going to get more help on that. I'm worried that this isn't just a wolf, but it's an alpha, or a very old wolf with a lot of strength.
Fiona: How old are we talking?
Derek: Old enough to hide his presence, and to take a supernatural kick to the chest and not even flinch.
Fiona: From who? Liam or Landon? Because incubi aren't exactly supernatural the way you guys are.
Derek: Landon. Who's a dancer and makes up for it in a way.
Fiona: [she nods, but that doesn't really make her feel any better about the situation] I don't like this.
Derek: I don't either, but let's work with what we have, and follow the leads.
Fiona: [nods a bit] The babies are with your mom for right now. I figured it'd be better so both of us can be on the move if need be.
Derek: [looks at his phone] I need to see if I can get a sample of the agent in the canisters with the wolfsbane in it before CSi takes the car away. Deaton can sometimes track hunters based on the genus of the flower. Think you can help the sheriff distract the investigator a moment for me?
Fiona: [she nods with a thin smile] One overreacting mother, coming up. [it's not going to be that hard. though we can probably hand wave it because that poor CSI tech.]
Derek: [nope, as long as he can snatch a vial out of his kit and use it to pour some of the residue from the canister into it and pocket it, he's good. He also take a moment to try and get a scent, but the wolfsbane is covering it too well and Derek finally backs away, lightheaded]
Fiona: [and she will notice that and let the sheriff foist her off on her husband] You okay?
Derek: Yeah, it's just strong.
Sheriff: [walking over as well] We're done here. I'm going to go get the statement from the boys. I'll come to the preserve after and fill you in.
Fiona: [she nods] Yeah, we'll be there. [a beat, then she glances back to Derek] Boys?
Derek: Landon was with Liam, and Brett was leaving and heard Liam and came running as they were pulling away.
Fiona: Then we should tell Satomi, just in case the guy saw him.
Derek: [nods] Yeah. Let's go to Mom's first though. This is now a pack problem.
Fiona: [nods and goes to get back in her car to head to the preserve]
Derek: [and when they get there, he tells his mother everything that they know so far]
Talia: [frowns] The only alpha I know who's even close to that powerful is Satomi.
Derek: Well, one of her betas was at the scene. We need to tell her about it anyway.
Talia: [nods before going for the phone] I'll call her and let her know. Which beta was it?
Derek: Brett. Liam and him are friends slash rivals.
Talia: [she nods, before handing Lucy off to Thomas and stepping out of the room to make the phone call]
Satomi: [the only reason she has a phone is because she has teen wolves in her pack that insist on this text messaging. But she sees Talia's number coming up and answers] Talia?
Talia: I'm sorry to bother you but it seems we have a bit of a situation, and unfortunately Brett is involved. Do you think you could come by the house?
Satomi: Of course. Is he okay?
Talia: He's fine. He was more of a witness than anything else. He's currently at the hospital with Landon, so he's with my son-in-law and he's safe.
Satomi: Yes, There are not many creatures who will go up against an adult tanuki. I will be at your place soon. [and she will hang up. phone etiquette? nope]
Talia: [she's used to it by now. And with that, she will make her way back into the main area] She's on her way.
Satomi: [and two minutes later, there is a knock on the door. fast alpha is fast]
Talia: Derek, if you don't mind? [he's closest to the door]
Derek: [goes to open the door] Satomi
Satomi: [enters, looking at Derek curiously] You smell of wolfsbane. What has happened?
Talia: A very old wolf seems to have kidnapped my grandson.
Satomi: [thinks] There are not many old wolves in this country. Which grandson? [since there are like a dozen children here at various times]
Talia: Liam.
Satomi: The adopted one. I see now why Brett was there. He was originally Liam Dunbar when he first came here, yes?
Talia: He still is, as far as I'm aware. I don't believe they changed his name.
Derek: No, we didn't. He will say he's a Hale now, but he goes by Dunbar.
Satomi: [thinks a moment] Not here. I don't know any wolves that old by that family name. But... there is one similar, and he is very old, but he has never set foot in this country. Lord Malcolm DeBriar.
Fiona: DeBriar? [she came in the house just in time to hear that before she reaches for her phone] That sounds familiar.
Satomi: He is old blood, lives in Cardiff if I am not mistaken. He refuses to come to this country as he believes that the American wolves are nothing more than stray dogs.
Talia: Does he have a large pack?
Satomi: He did, once. That was until about three hundred years back. That was when he made a very fatal mistake and he made enemies with a hunter family from Italy. Lord DeBriar killed all the daughters of the Faggini family. There was a blood vow that they would kill all of DeBriar's children, and their children and so on until there was no heir left on earth and he would feel the pain of all their death no matter when they hid.
Fiona: So our options right now are very old alpha coming to reclaim an heir or very old hunting family looking to wipe one out?
Derek: [looking at them] Not sure I like either option at the moment, but the first at least gives us time.
Satomi: Lord DeBriar is not a kind alpha, Derek Hale. Your son is very American. If he has him and he is the last heir to his alpha power... I would think the hunter would be more merciful.
Fiona: I think we're just aiming for whatever gets us our son back right now.
Satomi: You may want to check with your Russian family. I believe that they had ties once to the DeBriar pack as allies before this. They may know more. I have not seen Lord DeBriar since I left for America.
Fiona: [she nods] Yeah, I'll talk to Victor and see what he knows.
Derek: I'm going to tell the Sheriff to make sure that the airport knows that there's a chance they are taking him out of the country.
Talia: And I guess I will make dinner. Satomi, would you like to join us?
Satomi: No, I should retrieve Brett and get him back to his sister before she worries. But thank you.
Talia: [she nods] Tell him thank you from us.
Satomi: [she just nods, and then heads out]
Derek: [texting the Sheriff] What are we going to do, Mom?
Talia: We're going to find him and we're going to get him back. And in the process, use ever resource at our disposal. The Kirsanovs aren't the only old werewolf family we know.
Derek: If they've hurt him...
Talia: We'll find him, Derek. Don't let your thoughts wander too far.
Derek: [nods, and he goes over to just pull Fiona into his arms. because they can both use it right now]
Fiona: [goes easily, letting her head rest against his shoulder]
Derek: We'll find him.
Fiona: I know we will. I just hope it's soon.
Derek: [holds her close] I'm going to check on the babies.
Fiona: [nods] I'll go see if Talia needs any help with dinner.
Derek: I'll be down in a bit.
Fiona: [she nods and disappears into the kitchen]
Derek: [and he's going to go up and reassure himself that the babies are safe]
Lucy: [which they are. They are very happily hanging out with Grandpa right now]
Thomas: [more like hanging off grandpa.] Everything okay, son?
Derek: It'll get there. [goes to sit next to him]
Lucy: [gets up and toddles over to climb in his lap with a book] Hi, Daddy.
Derek: Hey, sweetie. You being good with grandpa?
Lucy: Uh-huh. [snuggles against his shoulder]
Derek: [nuzzles her a bit, hugging her] What are you reading?
Lucy: It's called Ben's Adventure. [and she launches into a description that makes no sense and is not what the books about at all but she makes it up as she goes]
Derek: [and he's going to just listen and smile, keeping her close]
Lucy: [and eventually she'll finish and hold it up to him] You wanna read it?
Derek: I can read it later. Daddy is just in a snuggle mood]
Lucy: Okay. [and she will give him all the snuggling he wants and keep babbling because words are fun, though what she's babbling about, no one will ever know except her.]
Thomas: [and he is going to entertain the baby, but watching Derek] Any leads?
Derek: A few.
Thomas: Anything promising?
Derek: [just rests his chin on Lucy's head]
Fiona: [from downstairs] Derek! Mona's here. [which is new because Mona usually avoids the Hale house if she can help it]
Derek: [closes his eyes] Alright, Lucy. Daddy needs to talk to Landon's mommy. You stay with grandpa, ok?
Lucy: [nods] Okay. [climbs over to settle next to Thomas] Hi, Grandpa.
Thomas: Hey angel. You want to help me teach your brother to clap?
Lucy: But his hands are so tiny.
Thomas: Yes, which is why he needs to exercise them by clapping. To make them bigger.
Lucy: Ooohhhhh. Okay.
Derek: [and he will leave them and head downstairs, giving Mona a tired smile] How's Landon's head?
Mona: Concussed. He's home though with his brother who is going to take immense pleasure in keeping him awake.
Derek: You have a good kid there, Mona. He may have gotten us the only lead we may have to find my son. [motioned her into the living room] Can I get you a drink?
Mona: Don't go giving me the credit. That's not my fault. [she doesn't exactly inspire good in her children. but she'll take a deep breath as she moves inside] Got something strong?
Derek: [opens the liquor cabinet and pulls out Peter's good whiskey.] This work?
Mona: [eyebrows go up] That'll do.
Derek: [pours her a drink and goes to sit across from her] Liam came into my life three years ago when my wife was on a job and arrived too late. An entire pack, wiped out from top to bottom, except for a tiny thirteen year old wolf hidden away by his older brother. Never found the hunters responsible. He latched onto my wife, and we took custody of him to keep him safe, and adopted him about a year later.
Mona: [leans back and takes a sip with a sigh] So I'm guessing that this is either hunters or is family coming to reclaim him.
Derek: [takes a sip of the drink he poured himself] And neither option is apparently a good option, if what we're finding out about his family is true
Mona: Which is what?
Derek: Very old alpha with a very bad reputation and a hunter family with an itch to eradicate them all
Mona: Since succubi tend to make a habit of avoiding alphas - which one?
Derek: Lord Malcolm DeBrier.
Mona: ..... Shit.
Derek: [leans forward] You've heard of him.
Mona: Yeah. I've got a daughter in London. He's ... ancient.
Derek: That's what I'm hearing. [sighs] We didn't know this. We didn't know any of this about Liam.
Mona: Probably for a damn good reason. DeBrier has a lot of enemies.
Derek: The Faggini's being the biggest.
Mona: The Mikaelsons being another.
Derek: [sat back a bit] Klaus Mikaelson has a vendetta against DeBrier?
Mona: Not Klaus. His grandfather, now deceased. DeBrier is the reason the wound up in New Orleans in the first place.
Derek: This just gets better. [sits back]
Mona: You'll have to ask Finn or Elijah for the details. I don't know them.
Derek: No, but we do. In fact, my younger sister and another of our pack are friends with them.
Mona: Well, there you go.
Derek: I just hope it's him, and not a hunter.
Mona: I wouldn't go so far as to say that either. I hope you've got a pretty resilient kid.
Derek: He had a lot to deal with freshman year, especially when he came out. He had to learn. I just hope it's enough.
Mona: You and me both. No one deserves what he's about to go through.
Derek: [rubs at his eyes] Again, I'm sorry about Landon. He just wanted to help protect Liam. I'm grateful for that.
Mona: He'll be fine. He's just staying out of this from here on out. If you go to London after him, I'll give you Gina's number but Landon is staying home.
Derek: I wouldn’t take him. He'd be too distracted. [he's not sure about her daughter though]
Mona: [she nods] Good. Glad we're on the same page.
Derek: [nods] I have Landon's number. Tell him I'll text him when we find Liam.
Mona: I will.
Derek: [finishes his drink and stands] I'll see you out.
Mona: [knocks back the rest of hers and gets to her feet] Let me know if you need Gina to help you out. If anything, she can be a very pretty distraction.
Derek: I will. First we need to figure out where he is. If he's not in London, it'd be a moot point.
Mona: Well, good luck.
Derek: Thanks. [and he will see her out]
Fiona: [sighs softly] You should ask your sister to talk to Klaus.
Derek: [watches Mona drive off, then nods] I will. You talk to your brother in law?
Fiona: [she nods] Yep. We'll figure it out.
