spamalot } { of old family grudges and bickering mikaelsons
Sheriff: [and he's going to arrive sometime during dinner with Isaac]
Talia: [goes and answers the door] Sheriff.
Sheriff: So I've got some news. [he walks in, and Isaac goes off to the kitchen to help]
Talia: Good or bad news?
Derek: [and he's walking to the hallway as well]
Sheriff: Landon gave us a good description, and Brett saw enough to verify it. I added it to the alerts and We just got this back from Los Angeles. It's a security cam shot at a private air strip on the coast. [he showed them the printout of Lucas carrying Liam in his arms into a small plane, almost like a father carrying a sleeping son]
Derek: So he's not in California any longer.
Sheriff: No. That plane took off with a flight plan to India. Probably to refuel and then file a new plan we can't track.
Fiona: [is not far behind her husband and no, all of this sucks.] Not unless one of us has friends India that can look into it. Maybe Allison - her father has a lot of contacts.
Derek: What about Victor, Fi? Or Nadia?
Fiona: I'll ask, but she doesn't do a lot of work in India.
Sheriff: I'll talk with Chris. See what he may have.
Derek: Can I keep that?
Sheriff: Yeah. Why?
Derek: I need to also see if Cora can talk with the MIkaelsons. Landon's mother told me that their grandfather may know something that can help us.
Fiona: [she nods] I'll get started on the Kirsanovs.
Sheriff: I know I can't really do much more for you now that he's out of the country, but if there is something...
Talia: We will let you know. Thank you, John.
Derek: [takes the photo, holding it carefully] Thank you.
Sheriff: [pats Derek's arm] You're welcome. Isaac, I taking you back with me?
Isaac: No, I think I'm going to stay here. Malia's working late.
Fiona: [nods as well before moving to get a better look at the picture] Thank you, Sheriff.
Sheriff: [and he'll head back to go talk to Chris about this over dinner with him and Melissa]
Derek: [looking close] At least he's still alive. A hunter wouldn't be smuggling him out of the country.
Fiona: [she nods] But I can't help but worry about what's waiting for him on the other side.
Derek: He's a strong kid. When you talk to Nadia, see if we can get the jet. I have a feeling we're heading to London no matter what.
Fiona: [she nods] I will. You should call your sister.
Derek: I think I'm going to actually go over there. No offense, Mom, but I'm not really hungry.
Talia: [shakes her head] Of course not. Go.
Fiona: I'm going to stay with the kids. So come back here when you're done?
Derek: Yeah, I will. [and he will head over to interrupt her nap by big brother knocking on door]
Cora: [startles a bit from where she and Dina are sleeping on the couch. and she pushes up, rubbing her eyes a bit before she registered that it was a knock on the door and she pushes to her feet slowly, as to not disturb the sleeping child next to her] Coming.
Dina: No. Still sleepy time. [cuddles back up into the blankets]
Cora: [smiles softly, before kissing the top of her head] You sleep. I'll catch up with you after I see who's at the door. [and after that she's heading over to open the door]
Derek: [and there is worried big brother on the other side of the door. His eyes go to make sure she's okay, and Dina, and then back to his sister] Bad time?
Cora: [at first sight she was about to be happy to see him, but when she actually gets a look at him, that smile fades to concern. She shakes her head, before stepping to the side to let him in] Nap time. What happened?
Derek: [he keeps his voice down because while Dina isn't a werewolf, he doesn't want to upset her either. He also closes the door behind him] Liam was kidnapped a few hours ago. They've already taken him out of the country, and I need your help.
Cora: [her eyes widen and she nods, before taking his hand and leading him into the kitchen, away from Dina] Of course, whatever you need.
Derek: I need to talk to the Mikaelsons. I need to know if they recognize this man. [he shows her the picture from the airport]
Cora: [she glances at the picture for a moment, before nodding and going to grab her phone from where she left it on the counter] Yeah, of course. [she sees a missed call from Stiles, but she ignores it right now, just texting him back and saying she'll call him back later]
Stiles: [frustrated hands. Luckily he's on his way home so he can't text back in frustration]
Derek: Landon got caught up in it but he's fine. Satomi brought up an alpha in Europe that Liam may be a descendant of, and Landon's mother thinks that Klaus' grandparents had dealings with him.
Cora: [she takes a picture of the picture to send him and then dials Klaus's number, which goes unanswered for a long time before a crisp female voice answers]
Rebekah: Klaus's phone. Rebekah speaking.
Cora: Hey, Rebekah, it's Cora Hale. Is your brother around?
Rebekah: Presuming you mean Klaus, as I have many of them, he's out of commission for the moment. It might take a bit for him to get back to you.
Cora: [....] Everything okay?
Rebekah: Oh, everything's peachy. It's just going from an alpha to a beta again apparently takes a lot out of you.
Derek: [nope, he heard that] He did what?
Cora: [puts the phone on speaker] Explain, please.
Rebekah: Don't worry, it was willingly acquiesced. [she pauses as she steps out of the room] One of his enemies decided that if he couldn't get to Klaus, he would try getting to me instead. Mistletoe poisoning. Certainly would not recommend it.
Derek: Is there anything we can do to help? [because he has his own problems, but Klaus was an ally]
Rebekah: We're fine now. Enemy was dispatched. Klaus sacrificed his alpha abilities in order to heal me so unless you can sleep for him, I doubt there's much you can do at this point. [there's the sound of her closing a door and heels on hardwood floors] But since you're calling him, I'm going to hazard a guess that this isn't a social call?
Derek: No, it's not, I'm sorry. [he looked at his sister] Rebekah, do you remember ever hearing about an alpha called Lord DeBrier? I heard he may have had connections to your grandparents.
Rebekah: [there's a moment of silence on the other end of the line, before shaking her head] Our mother, actually. [there's a pause] Hold on, let me find Elijah.
Derek: Thank you. [he just leans against the wall, so exhausted and frustrated and feeling so helpless]
Cora: [her hand wanders to his shoulders, giving them a small squeeze as they wait for Rebekah to return]
Rebekah: [switches the phone to speaker as she comes into Elijah's study, placing the phone on his desk] It's Cora and her brother. Apparently they're having a problem with the DeBrier family.
Elijah: [there's a pause as he looks up from his books and then shifts at his desk to lean closer to the phone] You've managed to net yourself quite a powerful enemy.
Derek: Not an enemy yet, but he's close. [he leans into his sister a bit for comfort] You met my son, Liam, when I wasn't quite myself, correct?
Elijah: Yes, I remember. Is he alright?
Derek: No, he was kidnapped about five hours ago now, and we just learned that he was taken out of the country. We talked with Satomi, and she told us about the DeBrier family, and while we aren't sure... we think Liam may be an heir that this alpha is trying to reclaim back into the pack.
Elijah: This doesn't surprise me. His emissary also has a habit of taking what doesn't belong to her. [he pauses for a moment, rubbing his forehead in irritation] She is our maternal aunt and she currently has custody of our oldest sister, Freya.
Derek: I'm sorry to hear that. [Derek would be pissed if someone else had tried to take his sister from him] We have the picture of the person who took Liam. Cora's going to send it to you and see if you may recognize the face of this person.
Elijah: [Cora goes to do that, and there's a beep on the other end of the line before Elijah sorts through and finds it, his tone even drier at the site of the photo] That would be Lucas, DeBrier's second. Four hundred years-old and an equally horrid personality to match.
Derek: At least we know then who really has him. [looks at his sister] I guess I'm going to London to get my son back.
Elijah: I wouldn't recommend going alone. Lucas may be ancient but DeBrier is older. It's not an undertaking you should do without a great deal of muscle on your side.
Klaus: If you think that I am not going to go and retrieve our sister, you are sorely mistaken.
Rebekah: [turns at the sound of his voice before her eyes widen] Are you mad? You're barely able to stand right now, let alone have the strength to fight an alpha who is over a thousand years old.
Derek: Oh, I won't be going alone. I'm pretty sure between myself and Fiona, we can rally up a pack that can take him on. I'll do what I can to find your sister too. I owe you all for keeping the kids safe while I was possessed.
Elijah: [almost as though Derek hasn't said anything. Welcome to arguments with the Mikaelsons] Only eight-hundred, let's not give him more credit for living than he's due, Rebekah. Though I can't say I disagree with our sister, Niklaus. You are in no shape to be joining a war.
Klaus: I am not going to leave Freya to believe that we are only sending a messenger to retrieve her from Dahlia, not after all of the damage she has caused here.
Rebekah: So you'll die to show our sister you care. Yes, that is a very intelligent plan. [dramatic sigh] You're not going alone.
Cora: [as Klaus is about to tell Rebekah that he didn't just save her life so that she can go get herself killed again, Cora hits mute on her phone so that their conversation doesn't interrupt your argument] Looks like you're making a stop in New Orleans.
Derek: I guess so. And I can't not disagree with Klaus. Even if he's not an alpha, he knows how to think and fight like one. I just don't know if what they are describing is more him getting used to being a beta, or if there's more to it.
Cora: If anything, you'll at least have Rebekah with you to help back him up. And you could ask Mom and Peter what they know about what he did for Rebekah.
Derek: And knowing Fiona's family, Nik is going to want to come. And maybe Victor, depending on the Kirsanov's history with this alpha. [he sighs, and then blinks] Unmute us.
Cora: [does so, just as Klaus and Rebekah are going into a tear about something completely unrelated. Cora can hear Elijah's headache from here. So she'll save him the trouble and whistle loudly over the speaker] Guys!
Mikaelsons: [and sudden surprise silence]
Cora: Thank you.
Derek: Elijah, how many heirs does this alpha have to inherit his power? Satomi said there was a hunter family that was out to kill all of them for hundreds of years, and we think they're the ones who killed the rest of Liam's family and Liam would have told us if he had family so I don't think he was ever told about this link to them.
Elijah: Last we heard is that he had a son, three hundred years ago. But he disappeared around the Revolutionary War and hasn't been heard from since.
Derek: If that was the last heir and he has had no kids since then... and that son was Liam's line... Liam may be the heir to his power and he won't let Liam go without a fight. [he looks at his sister] Klaus, I think there may be a way for you to get your power back and save your sister.
Klaus: [his eyebrows go up - not that Derek can see it] Color me intrigued.
Derek: If this second hasn't killed DeBrier for power at this point, he's too loyal too. Which means he took Liam because he knows he's getting too old and needs to make sure he knows who's getting his alpha power. Liam... Liam's a good kid, but he won't know what to do with that power and he's too young to be an alpha. [do you see where he's going, Klaus?]
Klaus: If the alpha is as old as he claims, then we will need more than just a beta who's killed an alpha before. We will need actual alphas to even the playing field.
Andrea: I'll go. [they don't have to see Elijah to know the look on his face because she'll quickly follow up with] Until he kills DeBrier he's technically my beta which means I need to look out for his sorry ass and make sure he doesn't do anything stupid in the meantime.
Derek: How many people are in that room right now anyway? [he totally said that out loud]
Andrea: I just got here. I followed the sound of the bickering.
Derek: Can you be ready to fly tomorrow? We'll pick you up on the way.
Andrea: Shouldn't be a problem. Plenty of time to talk down my husband.
Klaus: Won't be a problem for me either. Cora can send me the flight plan once you have it scheduled.
Derek: She will. And you can rest during the flight. We'll probably need to stop in New York as well, and then a ten hour transatlantic flight will give you at least a day of rest before we start hunting this man down. [see, Rebekah, he will make your brother rest]
Rebekah: [that's good because she thinks he will probably wind up in a certain bartender's bed before the night is out] Very well. I'll make sure they're ready.
Stiles: [coming in the door at the same time] Is that Rebekah on the phone?
Rebekah: Hello, Stiles.
Cora: [she nods as she gives him a small smile] Hey.
Stiles: I just got home. What am I missing?
Rebekah: Derek's son was kidnapped because paternal grandfather happens to be one of the oldest alphas in existence and he's now arranging a suicide mission involving my newly beta brother and alpha sister-in-law as well as some other alphas to retrieve and have Klaus kill him so that he can regain his alpha abilities again.
Cora: [purses her lips] That about sums it up.
Stiles: Well I had called Cora about Liam like, four hours ago. Wait... when did Klaus lose his alphaness and please tell me you've taken advantage of that, Klaus, and you know what I'm talking about.
Derek: [just blinking at Stiles because what]
Cora: [blinks and then glances back to him] That's what that was?
Rebekah: Only for a few hours and not yet, though I'm sure it's on his trip preparation list. [Rebekah knows what's up.]
Stiles: Yes, I figured you would want to know your nephew was on a major amber alert, yes. [leaning into the phone] And good for you, buddy. Blessings in disguise.
Klaus: [sigh] We will discuss this later, when we're not on speaker phone.
Stiles: You have my number. [totally smirking at you, non-alpha boy]
Cora: [sighs as she rests a hand on her husband’s shoulders] Not the time.
Andrea: Sooo - we're going to go prep. Text us the flight info and we'll be there. [and with that, the Mikaelsons are out]
Derek: [just looking at Stiles]
Stiles: What?
Derek: What was that even?
Stiles: Klaus has been afraid to mate with this woman he's in love with because he was an alpha. If he's going to go off and get it back, he has like, what, a few hours at most to bond with the love of his life. Am I the only one who sees the very short expiration date on that benefit?
Cora: No, I do. And I'm sure he does too. But now really wasn't the time to bring it up.
Stiles: When would be the good time - after he loses his window?
Derek: Maybe when my son hasn't been kidnapped?
Stiles: But you're already on top of that.
Cora: [sighs, before getting back to business] While you're recruiting alphas, what about Deucalion?
Derek: I'm not sure. I haven't heard from him since, you know, the time a druid tried to kill me to get enough power to kill him.
Cora: Mom might know how to find him. Safe to say he kind of owes us.
Derek: I'll ask. I need to see who else is coming tomorrow. Fiona’s supposed to call the Kirsanovs.
Cora: [she nods, before looking up at him because she knows she's probably going to disappoint him] I can't. [she hasn't told him yet and this isn't how she wanted to tell him, but it was going to have to be]
Derek: I wasn't going to ask you. I was actually going to ask if you guys could help watch the babies, since I don't know if Mom's going to pull alpha and come with us, and Dad can't do it on his own.
Cora: [well, that's a relief] Yeah. Of course.
Stiles: Yeah, anything we can do to help. That's what pack does, right?
Derek: Good, thanks.
Cora: [she nods] You'll get him back, Derek.
Derek: [nods] I'm just worried about what's happening to him right now. I can't protect him.
Cora: He's a tough kid.
Derek: He's a tough kid who's going to be finding out things about his family he may not want to hear.
Cora: I know. But you'll get to him in time and you'll help him through it.
Derek: Yeah. [nods]
Cora: [and she'll move closer to give him a hug because he needs it]
Derek: [yeah, he does, and he hugs her back]
Cora: [and she will just hug him tightly, closing her eyes into the hold] It'll be okay.
Derek: Thanks.
Cora: [she pulls back with a small smile, before taking a step back] I'm sure you have to go get ready.
Derek: Yeah, I'll call when I know the plans.
Cora: [she nods] Be careful.
Derek: I will. Don't teach my daughter any bad habits.
Cora: Cross my heart.
Stiles: I make no promises.
Derek: [glares at Stiles]
Stiles: I'm trying to make you laugh, Derek. Liam's going to be fine.
Cora: [sighs, because that isn't really the way to go with Derek right now] Go home. Get some rest. You're going to need it.
