new york wolves } { of wearing out and restless nights
Parrish: [opens his apartment door. Which is really like a closet. Sam's apartment is huge compared to this.] Oh, hey.
Lindsay: Hey. [she pauses before holding up the bag in her hands] I come bearing burgers from that place you like?
Parrish: [he looks in his whole hoarders version of a closet and then back at her] As long as you don't mind the mess?
Lindsay: [she shakes her head] Pretty sure my place is worse.
Parrish: Alright, but I warned you. [and opening the door and it looks like the broken device room in a Radio Shack]
Lindsay: [her eyebrows go up a bit as she steps inside] Getting out a little frustration?
Parrish: I like to tinker with things? It helps me clear my head
Lindsay: Ahh. Cool. [glances around] Where do we eat?
Parrish: Right. Hold on a sec.... [and he will go and shift the top of the plastic 20 Gallon tub OFF his table and onto his couch/bed. The folding table is cleared off, and two folding chairs are already at it] There.
Lindsay: [and she puts the bag down before starting to dish out the orders] So how are you doing otherwise?
Parrish: Well... I'm alive.
Lindsay: That's a plus.
Parrish: Other than that though. [he goes into the kitchen] Want a coke?
Lindsay: Sure.
Parrish: [and he comes back with two cokes and sits] I just am trying to deal with the fact I'm not human.
Lindsay: Not that I can really speak to that experience, but from what I do know, humans and non-humans are not all that different. They can just do different stuff.
Parrish: It's not the biological stuff so much.
Lindsay: Then what is it?
Parrish: Just... you grow up your whole life thinking one thing, and then you find out it's been a lie the whole time.
Lindsay: [she considers for a moment before nodding] Yeah, I get that. It can be a lot to wrap you head around.
Parrish: I just... it isn't something I even considered. And I knew creatures existed.
Lindsay: To be fair, you haven't technically been one your whole life.
Parrish: I know. And I should have questioned it back then, but I just wanted to believe that I was lucky.
Lindsay: Which is totally fair.
Parrish: But now I can't delude myself. And I mean, am I something, or am I possessed by it... what happens to me now?
Lindsay: Maybe you should call Sheila Bennett and ask her. She seems to know a lot.
Parrish: I know I can. I just am still at a point where I don't want to believe it and go back to a normal life.
Lindsay: [she nods] I get that.
Parrish: [takes a bite of his burger] And I mean, a hellhound... doesn't really sound all that friendly.
Lindsay: Actually, I've been doing some research on that. The name is a result of Christianity trying to appropriate other cultures to get people to convert. The black dogs in mythology weren't really all that malevolent. Yeah, they were death omens and a little terrifying to look at but they never hurt anyone. They were protectors.
Parrish: So not the hideous beasts that would drag damned souls to Hell.
Lindsay: Nope. In Norse mythology, Odin would lead them on a Wild Hunt through the sky as an explanation for thunder storms. Cerebus, the hound of Hades, is an example of a hellhound, and he just guards the gates of the Underworld. Barghests are omens of death, but they don't actually kill people.
Parrish: [licks his lips and nods] Well, that's better than what I was thinking.
Lindsay: Yep. And in Welsh mythology, which is where I think your kind of hellhound is more likely to come from if you're guarding a giant supernatural tree? Escort souls to the Underworld as part of a different Wild Hunt, but they don't kill them - they're already dead. [there's a beat] I think that's what you were trying to do with the chimeras. Taking them somewhere where they can rest.
Parrish: [laughs] And now you're going romantic on me.
Lindsay: [she gives a shrug] Hey, I'm just inferring. It's not like the hound has given you a whole lot to go on.
Parrish: Well, I like your interpretation. It's better than anything in my head.
Lindsay: What is going on in your head?
Parrish: Just seeing that I'm going to end up losing control of myself anytime someone dies and I have to clean up the mess.
Lindsay: Maybe there's a way around that somehow.
Parrish: God I hope so.
Lindsay: I really think you should talk to Sheila. She might be able to ease a lot of these worries.
Parrish: I will.
Lindsay: Good.
Parrish: So what brought you over today anyway?
Lindsay: [she shrugs] Just wanted to see how you were doing.
Parrish: That bad at work?
Lindsay: [her eyebrows go up] I can't want to check on a friend?
Parrish: No, no I guess It's more I'm just not used to it, that's all.
Lindsay: [she frowns] Why not?
Parrish: I'm not really a big... out and about type.
Lindsay: Yeah, but you've had friends, right? Girlfriends? [there's a beat] Or ... boyfriends? [just in case she's misread things here]
Parrish: [chuckles] I had a girlfriend in high school. That's about it.
Lindsay: [well, girlfriend. that means her odds are improving] Well, here, in the big bad city, we check on our friends when they're having a shitty run of things.
Parrish: [smiles a bit] Thanks.
Lindsay: [smiles as well] Anytime.
Parrish: And these... these are still the best burgers.
Lindsay: [she laughs] It's the best place in the city.
Parrish; Better than anything I found in California either.
Lindsay: See? New York is vastly superior.
Parrish: Yeah. There's a lot of things here I like more than California, that's for sure.
Lindsay: Oh yeah?
Parrish: Yeah. Like, you're a much better partner that I've had.
Lindsay: Obviously.
Parrish: No, my last guy was a jerk. I bet he would have killed me for a promotion.
Lindsay: Where as I would never.
Parrish: Good, because that would really put a damper in our partnership.
Lindsay: It would. And I like our partnership. A lot.
Parrish: [grins] Me too.
Lindsay: Good. [and how does she shift this from "partnership" to more than that. that she doesn't know]
Parrish: [he's a guy and clueless. Sorry, Lindsay]
Lindsay: [yeah, well, what can you do] So. You wanna watch a movie or something?
Parrish: Yeah, sure. If we're done with the table I can shift the stuff back and there should be room on the couch for us both.
Lindsay: [finishes off the last of her burger and dusts off her hands] I'm good.
Parrish: [and like the male DNA he has, he will shove the rest of his in his mouth and chew as he gets up to start with the shifting]
Lindsay: [and she will just smirk before moving to help when she's allowed to]
Parrish: [he will let her clear the table and toss the trash. But he's very particular where he puts his electronics]
Lindsay: [which is fair, and she will do so before returning to the room to settle in for the movie]
Parrish: [and he will come and join her, bringing a refill for their drinks before sitting on the couch next to her] So, you have a preference on movies?
Lindsay: [shrugs] I'll watch almost anything.
Parrish: [and as he cues up netflix, all his recommended movies are movies filled with military people and/or explosions]
Lindsay: [that's cool. she can work with explosions] Die Hard.
Parrish: First one?
Lindsay: Any of them. Whatever they have is fine.
Parrish: Have you seen the fourth one where they are after the hacker?
Lindsay: Yep. The only one I haven't seen is the one with his son.
Parrish: [looks, but no, that one isn't available.] Well, we can flip for it. [grabs a coin in the couch cushions] Heads for first, tails for fourth.
Lindsay: Sounds good to me.
Parrish: [flips aaaaand] The first one.
Lindsay: Perfect.
Parrish: [and he will sit there and watch it, but the couch is small and eventually he needs more arm room so he does the whole stretch and then rest his arm on the back of the couch but he's trying not to look like he's making a move]
Lindsay: [mmmm-hmm. But since he's going to give her that opportunity, she's just going to casually shift a bit so that her side is resting against his more and she can shift to stretch her legs out on the couch]
Parrish: [oh. OH. Um, yeah this is happening and he is not opposed at all. Just... is she doing this to stretch or doing this to snuggle? How does he know?]
Lindsay: [she is doing either. Or both. Ball's in your court, dude, so she's just going to see what he does. Or if he tells her to move]
Parrish: [not going to tell her to move. But she is a coworker and that isn't really allowed and he is just so conflicted now]
Lindsay: [well what do you want, Parrish? Because she really doesn't care and she wants to think they can keep it professional]
Parrish: [He's going through a lot in his life right now! Sheesh! Don't push him. But after a bit, as he focuses back on the movie... his arm will creep down and rest on her shoulder. Totally just to rest there. Yup]
Lindsay: [she's not pushing! she's just a very direct person. but as his arm comes down, she smiles a bit at that, before she curls into the arm a bit to stay close]
Parrish: [and he will smile and may just pull her a bit closer at the same time to show he's good with it]
Lindsay: [well good then. so they're going to snuggle. Nice comfy snuggling]
Parrish: [which is very nice, and she will notice being in that close of a proximity that he does run a bit warmer than a normal human.]
Lindsay: [which personally she likes, because it makes him nice to snuggle with. Eventually she shifts back a bit so that her head is resting against his shoulder]
Parrish: [and his fingers will soon start to just run back and forth along her arm, not really making shapes but just touching]
Lindsay: [she tips into him a bit, one hand coming up to rest against his arm]
Parrish: [he's just going to smile, and keep it at that while they watch the rest of the movie]
Lindsay: [and she will stay nice and comfortable before sighing and starting to sit up] I guess I should probably go.
Parrish: Is it that late already?
Lindsay: [she shrugs] Not unless you want me to stay for number four.
Parrish: Do you want to? [his voice all but says he wants her to. His arm lets her go and just falls into his lap, and he looks like a sad puppy]
Lindsay: [she tips her head as she watches him] I'll admit, heading back to my empty apartment doesn't sound like the best idea.
Parrish: And I'll admit, I'm not looking forward to this being empty again so soon.
Lindsay: [she nods before shifting to settle back against him again] Then I guess it's time for Live Free or Die Hard.
Parrish: [and he will go back to holding her with that one arm, cuing up the next movie with the other hand]
Lindsay: [its a good hold really. she's quiet fond of it. and she will get nice of comfy]
Parrish: [and he's really fond of feeling her against him. It's comforting, and he's going to just relax more and more [
Lindsay: [and the more they relax the more tangled they get, and the fact that Lindsay's seen this movie several times means that it's easy for her to drift off a bit against his shoulder]
Parrish: [and he will eventually notice and smile down at her. His fingers will slip into hers, lacing with her hand as he leans back and just watches the rest of the movie]
Lindsay: [yep, you're warm and cozy so she's just going to sleep through the end, comfortable and happy]
Parrish: [and now it is getting late and while he doesn't want to move, he isn't sure she wants to spend the whole night here] Linds?
Lindsay: [she's a light sleeper, so it doesn't take much to rouse her with a sigh] Hmmm?
Parrish: It's getting late. You probably are going to want to head home before you end up sleeping here through the night.
Lindsay: Oh. [she sighs and swings her legs over, rubbing her eyes as she does] Sorry.
Parrish: No, it's okay. I just didn't want you to have to head home too late.
Lindsay: No, you're right. I should go.
Parrish: Do you want me to walk you to the subway?
Lindsay: [shrugs and nods] Sure.
Parrish: [moves to get up and stretch because he's been the pillow for 3 hours]
Lindsay: [and she will get her stuff together to go]
Parrish: [he licked his lips, watching her a moment and then, oh hell] Unless... unless you do want to stay.
Lindsay: [her head tips to the side for a moment as she glances back to him curiously] Stay as in I'm going to sleep on your couch or ... stay?
Parrish: [he looks at the floor a moment because he is not good at this. At all] Um...
Lindsay: Look, I'm not trying to pressure you or anything. I'm just a straight shooter, and I just want to know what you're looking for. Because I'm okay with either. I just want to know which one you want.
Parrish: I don't know.
Lindsay: Then couch it is.
Parrish: [he nodded] I'll go grab you a pillow and a spare blanket. [and he started for the little area where his bed actually was]
Lindsay: [and she will sit down to start shedding her shoes and jacket again]
Parrish: Do you need something to change into?
Lindsay: [she shakes her head] Nah, I'll be okay.
Parrish: [and he will drop off the pillow and blanket] Anything else I can get you?
Lindsay: Breakfast, tomorrow. Since I got dinner.
Parrish: Sure. I can do breakfast.
Lindsay: Good. Then we're square.
Parrish: Yup. See you in the morning, partner.
Lindsay: [and with that she will curl up and go to sleep]
Parrish: [and he will strip his shirt off and flop down on the bed. he will try and sleep, but eventually roll onto his back and stare at the ceiling]
Lindsay: [and she will doze off again but again - light sleeper. she'll wake if he wakes her]
Parrish: [ever since the hell hound took over he's had a hard time sleeping, so eventually he will try and make his way quietly to the kitchen to get a beer, and then go sit on his fire escape to cool off and listen to the city for a bit to clear his head]
Lindsay: [eventually the city sounds and tiny couch will force her back into awareness again and she will glance around to see where he went] Jordan?
Parrish: Fire escape.
Lindsay: [and after a minute she will push up and move to find him] Trouble sleeping?
Parrish: Yeah.
Lindsay: Anything you want to talk about.
Parrish: No. Just haven't really slept since the whole... thing.
Lindsay: Not at all?
Parrish: Not really.
Lindsay: Are you tired?
Parrish: Not really.
Lindsay: Maybe it's a side effect of ... being a hellhound.
Parrish: The hound doesn't rest.
Lindsay: Not even if you wear him out?
Parrish: [looks are her] You're not suggesting that I take my inner dog on a long walk before bedtime, are you?
Lindsay: [she laughs] There are other ways to wear yourself out.
Parrish: I don't really have the room for working out or sparring here.
Lindsay: What about ... going out dancing or joining a gym.
Parrish: Most of my money goes just into rent and food. I don't have a lot left over for stuff like that.
Lindsay: [she nods] Maybe take up free running? I have a friend who could teach you.
Parrish: That the whole thing with people bouncing off walls in the park?
Lindsay: That's parkour. Free running is done on the roofs of the city.
Parrish: [laughs] You're serious?
Lindsay: Dead serious.
Parrish: When I fall from the rooftop and end up on Lanie's table, you better take the blame.
Lindsay: Assuming the hound will actually let you die.
Parrish: He has to eventually, right? I mean, I can't live forever.
Lindsay: I don't know. [there's a beat] Maybe talking to Sheila will help the sleeping problem.
Parrish: Seems all the answers are held by her.
Lindsay: She knows more about them than anyone else.
Parrish: I got that.
Lindsay: [she nods] Look, if I could magically make you sleep, I would.
Parrish: I appreciate it. I think it's more that I'm frustrated than I have energy to get out.
Lindsay: What's frustrating you?
Parrish: Just this feeling. That lonely feeling and some kind of itch I just can't figure out.
Lindsay: [she can't help but think she could help with the lonely itch, but she also agreed that she wouldn't rush him] Well, you don't have to be lonely.
Parrish: You know any other hellhounds?
Lindsay: [she shakes her head] No. I mean I get that I'm human, but I'm here. Even if you just want to vent about something.
Parrish: [he smiled at her a bit] I do appreciate that.
Lindsay: So what is it about this itch that bugs you?
Parrish: I can't put a name to it, for starters.
Lindsay: Can you describe it?
Parrish: It's like... I want to do things but I'm worried that being this hell hound... if I'm able to really do any of it anymore.
Lindsay: Why wouldn't you?
Parrish: I have no control of when I'm in control.
Lindsay: So what, you're worried that you'll be in the middle of something and suddenly burst into flames?
Parrish: Or just fade out and walk away without any warning or ability to explain.
Lindsay: I think that'll come with time. It's not something you'll master over night, but you'll start to learn the signs. And it's not like there isn't someone with personal experience with that in this city.
Parrish: Yeah, I know. I should talk with her too soon.
Lindsay: Have you talked to Lydia since everything went down?
Parrish: Not really.
Lindsay: Maybe you should put her on your list of people to talk to as well.
Parrish: I'm going to need a notepad.
Lindsay: For two names?
Parrish: No, just to keep track of who I go to for what, and if they add people to the list I'll be prepared. [total boy scout]
Lindsay: [she laughs] Right. Never mind.
Parrish: But it makes having a personal life hard.
Lindsay: Well ... you said it yourself, you haven't really had one in a while. You never know what's going to happen until you try.
Parrish: Yeah, but again, right now I don't know and I don't want to put a person through the learning curve.
Lindsay: And if that person was willing to take the risk?
Parrish: Where am I going to find someone like that. [said with longing, not sarcasm]
Lindsay: [there's a beat. and then she'll just wave her hand because apparently she has to spell it out for him] Hi.
Parrish: [you really sure you want the clueless wonder, Lindsay? He's going to blink, and then just look at her with the look like "what did I miss"] Really?
Lindsay: [she pauses, then she shrugs] Yeah. I mean ... unless you don't want to.
Parrish: No... no, I mean, I do but... what about work?
Lindsay: [she shrugs] It's not like we're partners-partners. We work together sometimes, but I know I can keep it professional on the job.
Parrish: And it's not like Hale and Beckett weren't dating before she got her job.
Lindsay: Exactly.
Parrish: And you have good health insurance right? Just in case of fire? [small smile there]
Lindsay: [she laughs] Yeah, I've got a pretty good plan.
Parrish: [and he just takes a deep breath, nodding. He wants this, but he doesn't want to hurt her either]
Lindsay: [pauses for a moment before climbing out to stand in front of him. One she's close enough, she's just going to lean in and kiss him]
Parrish: [and he will blink a moment, and then just melt into the kiss]
Lindsay: [as he melts into her, he'll lean in and push closer, deepening the kiss so long as he’ll let her]
Parrish: [oh, he will. totally will and his hands will come up to rest on her hips and pull her closer after a bit]
Lindsay: [to which she will slide right into his lap to get nice and close]
Parrish: [and he will just keep going until some drunk on the street spies them and catcalls up at them, making him pull back and laugh a bit] We should go inside, I think.
Lindsay: [laughs as well] Probably a good idea.
Parrish: Of course, that means you need to get up first.
Lindsay: [glances down and] Oh. Sorry. [and with that she will get up and go to climb back inside]
Parrish: [he will laugh and finish off his beer before climbing back in after her]
Lindsay: [slides in and glances around] So. That wasn't too terrible, was it?
Parrish: It was okay. [smiles playfully]
Lindsay: Think we could do better without the late night voyeurs?
Parrish: Well, I did promise your breakfast, so we have the whole night to get it right
Lindsay: That is true. [and she will take a few steps closer to lean in and kiss him again]
Parrish: [and he will kiss her back, walking backwards towards his bed area]
Lindsay: [and she will follow his lead, sliding her arms around his shoulders]
Parrish: [and he will go to sit on the edge of the bed, pulling her back into his lap and this is as far as we can go while I'm at work]
Lindsay: [she slides into his lap easily, letting her knees rest on either side of his hips before leaning in to kiss him deeply, sliding her fingers through his hair to keep him close]
Parrish: [his hands are on her hips, and he will slowly slide up her ribs, feeling her over her shirt]
Lindsay: [she hums softly at the touch, not rushing his hands and just letting him get a feel for her as she does the same]
Parrish: [However, she has a bit of a start since he is already shirtless, so he's going to start to tug hers off after a bit]
Lindsay: [she will easily get it up and over her head, letting it drop to the ground as her hands slide over his chest]
Parrish: [he was going to let his fingers just play along her skin, feeling it]
Lindsay: [she hums softly, leaning into his hands to feel the drag of his fingers against her skin]
Parrish: [and slowly his hands are going to move upwards until they are resting right under her breasts]
Lindsay: [she hitches slightly, pushing closer to his hands, urging him to move higher and really touch her]
Parrish: [and he will, cupping her breasts and firmly caressing them as his lips trail down along her jaw]
Lindsay: [her head tips back with a soft sigh, giving him better access to her neck as she moves behind her back to find the clasp of her bra]
Parrish: [and when she gets it free, he will help her remove it and then kiss along her breasts before pulling a nipple into his warm mouth]
Lindsay: [she moans softly at the touch, fingers carding through his hair again as she pulls him closer]
Parrish: [he will smile against her breast before teasing each breast for as long as he can before he really needs to breath]
Lindsay: [she will let him pull back, her hips pushing down against his for a moment, before moving one hand down to work open the fly of her jeans]
Parrish: [and he is going to slowly shift them so that Lindsay is laying on her back on his bed, and he will help her get those jeans off while kissing her]
Lindsay: [kicks her legs gently to get free of her jeans, before hooking her legs over his hips to pull him closer, kissing him back easily until she places one hand against his shoulder to push him back] Do you have a ... ?
Parrish: Yeah. I haven't really had to use them so hopefully they aren't expired.
Lindsay: Guess we'll find out. [and back to kissing]
Parrish: [he will laugh and kiss her, and then slowly kiss down her body, avoiding her sexy area and kissing down one leg and then slowly up the other]
Lindsay: [she is not good with the patience, Parrish, and when he gets close enough she'll tug at his shoulders gently, wanting to pull him towards where she wants the attention the most]
Parrish: [yeah. she is right to the point. Okay, he will then just push her panties out of the way and get to work giving that area extra special attention]
Lindsay: [which she is very, very happy about and will be nice and vocal about that appreciation, fingers curling tightly in his hair]
Parrish: [and there will be fingers added to the mix, tongue playing with her clit]
Lindsay: [and her hips will push up towards those fingers arcing a but at the pressure as her body starts to climb]
Parrish: [and he will keep teasing her, really unable to do anything without both hands so he will get her to her peek and over it]
Lindsay: [and her fingers will relax as she does, dropping back against the bed with a happy sigh]
Parrish: [and he will get his sweats off, and then crawl up the bed to straddle her hips and leans his head down to kiss her] You get any louder, and my neighbors are going to bang the wall.
Lindsay: [she laughs as she pulls him closer, her fingers trailing down to his hips] Is that a challenge?
Parrish: Maybe. They can get pretty loud.
Lindsay: Maybe you should turn the tables on them.
Parrish: Maybe. [and he will reach under his mattress for the condoms there]
Lindsay: [and she will shift a bit so he can settle against her, dropping her lips to his shoulder]
Parrish: [it will take him a moment to suit up, but he is more than ready and will guide himself to her waiting sex and push the head in with a groan] Damn, you're tight.
Lindsay: [she moans softly as she feels him push in, fingers curling against his shoulders] It's been a while.
Parrish: You and me both [and it's not like he's a pencil either. Sorry Linds]
Lindsay: [no she's good. she takes a second to shift her hips for a better angle and she feels him move a bit easier] There.
Parrish: [that's good. he pulls back a bit, and is able to thrust all the way on. He gasps, pressing his forehead to her]
Lindsay: [she moans in response, lifting her hips to meet his as she feels him settle against her, murmuring encouragement as he begins to move]
Parrish: [and he will groan as well, starting slow as he building a rhythm between them]
Lindsay: [pushes her hips up to meet him on each thrust, her fingers pulling at his shoulders and working to push closer to that edge again]
Parrish: [it's been awhile, and he's not going to take long before he's there at the edge, going hard against her and making the headboard hit against the wall]
Lindsay: [the hard crush of him against her is enough to keep pushing her harder, and it isn't long until she's falling over the edge with him, dropping back against the bed with a heavy exhale]
Parrish: [and he will collapse on top of her after he hits his peak and moments later there is Spanish cursing and banging on the wall]
Lindsay: [she laughs, curling her arms around his shoulders] Does that mean I win?
Parrish: Yes, you win. [and he will kiss her while laughing]
Lindsay: [kisses him back, sighing softly as she curls in closer]
Parrish: [and he will eventually roll them to their side, keeping her close with his leg over her hip] I think I can try sleeping again.
Lindsay: [smiles] 'kay. Me too.
Parrish: [and he will push a bit of hair from her face and smile, and then curl up into her as he closes his eyes] I'm glad you stayed.
Lindsay: [smiles as well as she gets close and closes her eyes] Me too. [and with that, she'll start to drift off to sleep]
