canon au } { post-5b, of unexpected babies and telling the family

Stiles: [and he will come home exhausted because he had a group project he worked on after class and a test] Cora, I'm home!

Cora: [she glances up from the pregnancy test in her hand and swallows hard] In here?

Stiles: [and he will drag himself to the room, and he will see her serious face and blink] What's wrong?

Cora: [she licks her lips for a moment, before reaching over and handing off the pregnancy test to him so he can see]

Stiles: What's this? [because he's a guy and has never actually seen one before. But he will grab it and look at it and blink] ....... Is that meaning what I think it is?

Cora: [nods again] Yeah.

Stiles: Oh shit.

Cora: Yeah. [and she sighs before flopping back against the bed and staring up at the ceiling]

Stiles: We're dead. We're so dead.

Cora: In more ways than one.

Stiles: Peter's going to kill me. And then Dad, and then Derek. We're fucked. We’re seriously fucked. [and he's going to put his head in his hands, sitting next to her still holding the test]

Cora: [she nods, quiet for a moment and continuing to stare at the ceiling] What do you want to do?

Stiles: I think I have family in Poland. We can run away for the next nineteen years...

Cora: We can't just run away from nineteen years.

Stiles: We could try.

Cora: No, Stiles.

Stiles: I don't know. I don't know at all. [pauses a moment] You peed on this thing, didn't you?

Cora: [snorts] That's how the test works, Stiles.

Stiles: [sits up and sighs] I just rubbed my face all over it. [and is going to toss it onto the bed]

Cora: [and she will reach for it, before getting up to put it in the trash. And she'll hesitate for a moment, keeping her eyes down as she tries to figure out the right words] I mean we do have ... other options.

Stiles: Like?

Cora: [and she'll glance up at him briefly but she can't hold eye contact because she's not sure it's an option she can handle, but it is an option. One that avoids a whole of judgement from their families who never have to find out about this]

Stiles: [bites his lip, and then shakes his head] No, no I mean, it is your body and all, but I'd rather deal with your family killing me multiple times than you doing that.

Cora: [a bit of tension releases in her shoulders at that as she makes her way back to sit next to him again and she sighs] Telling everyone this is going to suck.

Stiles: [and he is going to wrap his arms around her, hugging her] Yeah, it is. But after they are done yelling... a few months down the road... they will be supportive.

Cora: [and she curls into him as she does that, resting her head against his shoulder] You sure about that?

Stiles: We may hear about it for a while, they may be harder on us... but I mean if my Dad can forgive me for half the shit I've done... if Peter can be still a part of the family after what HE did... an unplanned pregnancy isn't all that bad in comparison.

Cora: I guess. I'm just pretty sure they were expecting this a few years from now.

Stiles: I'm sure. [he looked at her] What do you want to do, Cora?

Cora: I don't know.

Stiles: Well, we have a few months to figure it out. [holds her hand] But we can do this together, ok?

Cora: [she nods as she gives his hand a squeeze] Okay.

Stiles: I love you.

Cora: I love you too.

Stiles: And hey, bright side? We're going to save a lot of money on condoms for a while that we can save for diapers?

Cora: [and that gets him a look]

Stiles: [just gives her that bright, I'm trying to make you laugh grin]

Cora: [she snorts, then shakes her head] We at least have a few months before we absolutely have to tell the werewolves?

Stiles: And as much as I value my neck... I think sooner is better than later. Mostly because it will give them longer to get used to the idea and we won't be yelled out for waiting so long to tell them

Cora: [she nods] You want to do your dad first?

Stiles: Probably the best.

Cora: Okay. After that, we can do Derek.

Stiles: Easier to tell them separately than all at once?

Cora: Probably less yelling that way. I can tell Peter on my own.

Stiles: As much as I'd like to let you do that, I'm going with you. Let's just have Buffy there to hold him back.

Cora: It'll be easier if it's just me. He'll be less mad when he sees you. I know how to ... diffuse him.

Stiles: If you're sure.

Cora: I'm sure. I'll be okay.

Stiles: I'll tell Scott.

Cora: [she nods] We'll figure it out.

Stiles: Would it sound old fashioned of me to say that if we decide to keep the baby... that we get married?

Cora: [she's quiet for a moment, before shrugging] I mean, we were already talking about that anyway. But part of me still wants to finish school before we do.

Stiles: We can just do something civil. Just for the legality. And then do a real wedding after we graduate.

Cora: [she shrugs] I don't know. Werewolves have never really needed that. It was mostly just a formality for the human side of things.

Stiles: Well, it's also a bunch of legal reasons. But I'd like it. You don't have to take my name if you don't want to.

Cora: [she still feels uncertain about it, like it's too much to process all at once, too many adult things that she's not ready for, but now she has to think about them. One she already can't avoid and she just wants to put off the other for as long as she can] I don't know. I can't think about this right now.

Stiles: Have you eaten yet?

Cora: I had lunch. [after that was panic and nerves]

Stiles: Okay. Why don't you just lay here and rest, and I will go and make us something for dinner.

Cora: [sighs before nodding] Okay. [and with that she will inch back to curl up under the covers]

Stiles: [and he is going to go and look in the cabinets to see what he can make them. In the end, it will be mac & cheese with hot dogs. And he will bring it into her so she can eat in bed]

Cora: [which is a perfectly acceptable dinner choice and she will curl up and pass out not long after that]

Stiles: [and he will stay up, doing his homework in bed next to her, occasionally looking over and trying not to be the panic ridden one for once]

Cora: [and she's pretty restless, but she'll do her best not to bug him even if this is a complete mess]

Stiles: [and when he's done, he is going to stretch out and just curl around her, hugging her to his chest]

Cora: [she lets out a deep breath as she does that, before shifting to curl into him and tuck her head against his shoulder. Normally she likes to spoon, but they weren't going to be able to sleep like this for much longer]

Stiles: [he kissed her forehead, pulling her just that bit closer in a way to silently tell her that he had her. She could take strength from him in this one]

Cora: [she just feels really dumb and she doesn't know if she can do any of this, but she just stays close, doing her best to keep her breathing even and calm, even when it threatens not to be]

Stiles: [and he's going to have a hard time falling asleep because his nerves are overworked now too. look at the pair they make]

Cora: [yep, they're a match. but for now, they'll get some terrible sleep and we'll skip?]

Stiles: [yes, skipity skip]

Cora: [starting with the sheriff first, or skip to a different verse?]

Stiles: [Go for the Sheriff. Which will probably wait for a day he has off for them to go home to do this]

Cora: [yep, so probably about a week or so and they go home for dinner]

Sheriff: [and he can tell something is unspoken in the room but he's going to wait for them to bring it up]

Cora: [and Cora keeps glancing to Stiles because she doesn't know how to bring it up, and she doesn't what the sheriff to be disappointed in her]

Stiles: [finally, he puts his fork down] Dad, um... we need to talk.

Sheriff: I've been wondering when you would get around to it. What's wrong?

Stiles: [looks to Cora, silently asking if she's ready]

Cora: [she looks back to him and she nods, before her eyes drop again, her fork pushing her food around on her plate more]

Stiles: So um... Cora and I... well, really I... we um...

Sheriff: [leans back, arms crossed] Stiles, just get it out.

Stiles: [looks at his hands] Cora's pregnant.

Cora: [and she will keep her eyes down for the moment, but she'll eventually, tentatively look up again, all nerves]

Sheriff: [and he leans forward, taking a deep breath] How long?

Cora: Couple months? I haven't ... been to the doctor yet. [it's complicated for a werewolf and she wasn't ready to talk to Melissa yet]

Sheriff: [nods, focusing on Cora because nope, not yelling at his son at the table right now] Well, first thing we need to do is get you to see one. I don't know how werewolves have babies, but humans needs extra nutrients to help their body along. Have you told your family yet?

Cora: [she shakes her head] I was going to talk to Melissa but I haven't gotten around to it. And ... we thought it would be easier to tell you first.

Sheriff: You're probably right on that. I'm sure they aren't going to be all that happy.

Cora: [she shakes her head] We didn't think you would be either. [to be fair] But ... you don't have claws.

Sheriff: No, I have a gun.

Stiles: [just being very quiet over here]

Cora: Which is locked up two rooms away. [she gives a small smile as she tries to make a bad joke] All about response time?

Sheriff: [chuckles] That's right. So, what is your game plan then?

Stiles: We're still figuring it out.

Cora: I still want to finish school and stuff. I'm ... ahead so I can take the time off and still be fine, but ... I don't know.

Sheriff: Normally, I'd be telling you to drop out of school and get a job to support her, but these days you need a degree to be able to get a job.

Stiles: I know, Dad. But I can find something part time or online if I have to.

Cora: I have money. If not from Derek and Peter then from Buffy. I mean, the apartment is paid for, and the utilities usually come out of Slayer funds, so we would only really need money for food and stuff like that. [not huge expenses]

Stiles: And we can figure out how to schedule our classes so the baby isn't alone and that will save on babysitter expenses.

Cora: We haven't settled everything yet, but ... we've been trying to balance everything out.

Sheriff: [nods] Well, let me start and be frank that I'm disappointed in both of you. I know you both know better, and I'm not going to get into a long lecture on this because you're both adults and from the looks on your faces, you've already been beating yourselves up about this. Plus I'm sure Cora's family is going to be a lot louder and angrier about this.

Cora: [and her eyes are back down to her food again, because yep.]

Sheriff: Now with that said, looking at the last few years an unplanned teenager pregnancy is the least amount of trouble you two could have gotten into on your own. At least this is something I can help you both with.

Cora: [her eyes flicker up again, trying not to be too hopeful because he still has the right to be mad]

Stiles: So you're not going to yell?

Sheriff: At you, yes. A lot, later. But I can be mad at you and still willing to be a part of the solution. I'm not going to toss out my only son and his girlfriend who is going to give me a grandkid way earlier that I was hoping to see one.

Cora: I think the feeling is mutual in that respect.

Sheriff: But we're going to make this work.

Cora: [she nods] I hope so.

Stiles: Thanks, Dad.

Sheriff: You're welcome.

Cora: Now we just have to tell Derek and Peter.

Sheriff: I will make sure the first aid kit is fully stocked.

Cora: Good idea.

Stiles: Hopefully they will leave something of me alive.

Cora: That's why we're letting me do Peter alone, remember?

Sheriff: I approve that plan. [still not Peter's biggest fan]

Cora: [doesn't really blame him, and adds sarcastically] I'm sure Derek will just think it's hilarious that everyone got pregnant but the actual married couple.

Stiles: Yeah, he is so going to hate me.

Cora: We'll figure it out.

Stiles: Hope so.

Sheriff: And you'll always going to have a place here if they need time to get used to the idea.

Cora: Thank you.

Sheriff: I'm going to run by the station and drop off some dinner to Jodi. Can you two do the dishes?

Cora: [she nods] Sure. Sounds good.

Sheriff: [he gets up and goes over to Cora, leaning down to kiss her forehead] You're going to be okay, Cora.

Cora: [closes her eyes as she leans into him a bit and she nods] I know.

Sheriff: This weekend we'll go up into the attic. I'm sure I have some of Claudia's old baby books up there. Maybe they'll do you better than it did us.

Stiles: Hey!

Cora: I'm sure Laura's going to have a ton of stuff too.

Sheriff: Trust me, there is never enough stuff.

Cora: Good to know.

Sheriff: [and he will leave them, grabbing his jacket to head to the station with a tupperware he had left by the door]

Cora: [and they will clean up and wash the dishes]

Stiles: [and he will just let out a deep breath] That went better than I thought.

Cora: [she nods] I thought there would be a lot more yelling.

Stiles: I'm pretty sure that's going to come while you're at Peter's.

Cora: I can take it.

Stiles: Dad was very firm on me when I was becoming a teenager that it was a guy's responsibility to provide the condom or not have sex.

Cora: The condom could have broke. They're not indestructible.

Stiles: Yeah, but then it wasn't our fault.

Cora: Yeah. But Derek and Peter don't have to know that.

Stiles: So you want to lie to them?

Cora: Not ... directly.

Stiles: But insinuate and hope they take the trail?

Cora: [she nods] And it's not like we couldn't get pregnant while using condoms too. It's just less likely.

Stiles: [walks over to her and kisses her] I like this plan. I like it a lot.

Cora: [smirks as she kisses him back] Good.

Stiles: Of course it may make your brother go back to using condoms in hope that he will break one too [laughs]

Cora: [she rolls her eyes at that]

Stiles: [kisses her again]

Cora: [kisses him back with a soft sigh] I think we'll be okay.

Stiles: Me too.

Cora: Do you want to tell Derek tomorrow or give it a little time?

Stiles: Up to you. I'm worried that once you tell one, they will tell the next before you get to tell them

Cora: So do you think it would be better to tell Peter first?

Stiles: Maybe? And what about Laura?

Cora: [and there may be a pause because she may have already called her sister]

Stiles: You told her already?

Cora: [nods] I ... needed someone to talk to.

Stiles: Did you tell her before me?

Cora: No. I called her the day after when you were in class.

Stiles: Okay. What did she say?

Cora: She wasn't thrilled, but she wasn't mad either. She wasn't really in a position to judge.

Stiles: Well, I want to tell Scott when you tell Peter, and Scott needs to know LAST because we know he can't keep secrets. So probably tell Derek first.

Cora: Okay. When?

Stiles: Tomorrow. Best to just get this all over with, right?

Cora: Right. Mind if I crash here tonight, then?

Stiles: You really think I'd say no?

Cora: No. Still nice to ask, though. And your dad did say he wanted to yell.

Stiles: I don't mind you hearing that.

Cora: Okay. Because I can pretend I didn't.

Stiles: Scott has heard Dad yell at me multiple times in my life.

Cora: Yeah, but that's Scott.

Stiles: Yeah, and he's family. So are you.

Cora: [she gets that she is, but she also can't help but feel that it's different because she's his girlfriend, not his sister. but she doesn't argue it any further and just nods] Right.

Stiles: [she's his girlfriend, one day to be wife and mother of his child. So nope, closer than Scott these days]

Cora: [and with that they will finish cleaning up and head up to his room until his dad gets home to yell at Stiles?]

Stiles: [yup, out on the back porch with a lot of swearing and disappointment and what were you thinking and threats of harm if he doesn't do the right thing and how he has to be a man and can't be a kid anymore and so on and so on... and then leaving Stiles alone on the porch to think about all of that and slamming the door shut behind him]

Cora: [and she will wander out eventually, and sit down next to him, slipping her arm in his and leaning against his shoulder]

Stiles: [and he will just lean into her as well, holding her hand]

Cora: You okay?

Stiles: I think my bruised ego just needs some time to recover.

Cora: [she nods and will just wait for him to be ready to talk]

Stiles: [and he just takes a deep breath and squeezes her hand] I need a drink.

Cora: What kind of drink?

Stiles: Whiskey.

Cora: I think you've made your dad mad enough for right now.

Stiles: [sighs] Yeah, I know.

Cora: We can go for a walk instead.

Stiles: Yeah, let's do that.

Cora: [nods as she gets up to pull him to his feet and off they go to wander the neighborhood a bit]

Stiles: [and he just holds her hand, taking comfort from her touch]

Cora: [and they're both a little unsteady on their feet but they'll be okay eventually]

Stiles: It's quiet uptown tonight.

Cora: Yeah. I guess people have started to leave town for vacations.

Stiles: Guess so. You know, I actually miss summer break a bit, but not a lot?

Cora: That's good at least.

Stiles: But maybe I'll scale back on the plan to catch up to you by taking classes every summer and take next summer off.

Cora: I'll probably have missed at least a semester by that point, so you'll be well on your way.

Stiles: [he looked over at her, smiling a bit] Are you thinking about keeping the baby now?

Cora: I don't know. I wasn't really sold on giving it away, but if I'm not ... doing that, then I'll be having the baby around midterms, spring semester. Won't exactly lend itself to a whole lot of focus.

Stiles: And if it's a werewolf baby... I hate to use Malia as an example but giving him or her away isn't a good option...

Cora: Exactly. But ... I don't know. Maybe Derek and Dawn or Peter and Buffy will help.

Stiles: I'm sure they will help either way.

Cora: Yeah. Once they're done being angry.

Stiles: Once they're done being angry.

Cora: Which might take a while.

Stiles: We have eight months, right?

Cora: Maybe nine.

Stiles: Probably will know more when we see a doctor.

Cora: [she nods] I'll make an appointment with the person Laura's seeing.

Stiles: Do you want me to come with you?

Cora: We'll see. You may have class.

Stiles: Yeah but I don't want you to be alone.

Cora: I don't think Laura will let me go alone if you can't.

Stiles: Okay. As long as you're not alone.

Cora: We'll figure it out.

Stiles: Yeah, we will.

Cora: C'mon. Let's get some sleep before we see Derek tomorrow.

Stiles: Alright. [but he is going to turn to her and kiss her]

Cora: [sighs softly as she kisses him back, her hands moving to rest against his sides]

Stiles: [he will smile against her lips] Let's go home.

Cora: [and with that they head back to go to sleep]

Stiles: [yup, curled up in each other's arms]

Cora: [and the next day they have lunch with Derek and Dawn?]

Stiles: [yup, and he will leave it to Cora to choose when to break the news]

Derek: [knows something isn't right but is going to be patient for once and wait]

Cora: [yeah, she'll wait for a while and when Stiles and Dawn are getting into a babble about something unrelated, she and Derek are sitting next to each other on the couch and she'll glance to him before quietly:] I need to tell you something.

Derek: Of course. What is it?

Cora: [and there's the don't be mad face as she tries to figure out the words] I'm ... [she swallows again and glances over at Stiles] We, uh ...

Derek: [follows her eyes, and then looks back at her] You didn't get married without us, did you?

Cora: [her eyes widen and she shakes her head] No! No.

Derek: [relaxes a bit] Ah, okay.

Cora: [and then her face falls again and she just spits it out] I'm pregnant.

Derek: [he blinks, and then he's going to look at her] You're pregnant?

Cora: [she looks up at him and nods]

Derek: [and he is going to stand up slowly. dangerously. Growling] You're pregnant. [louder and more noticeable]

Dawn: [yeah, she feels that rising anger and she turns to face him with a frown] Derek?

Cora: Derek ...

Derek: First Laura, and now you. What were you thinking?!

Stiles: Hey, it's not her fault.

Derek: [whips his head to look at Stiles, eyes glowing as he growls]

Cora: [grits her teeth as she moves to stand between him and her boyfriend] And it's not his fault either.

Derek: You are nineteen years old! He's eighteen. You are not old enough to be doing this!

Cora: And you think we don't know that? We didn't plan this!

Derek: Obviously not. But it seems Hale women have a way of breaking condoms lately. You were supposed to be focused on school!

Cora: So what? Just because I'm in school, I ignore my boyfriend?

Derek: [just growls, because it's not really her he's angry with. he's angry at her, yes, and Stiles, but there's more there and he's going to just turn and walk away from this argument, going to leave the loft if no one stops him]

Dawn: [Cora collapses back down on the couch and buries her face in her hands and Dawn sighs before going to follow him] I'll handle him. You guys stay here.

Stiles: [goes to Cora's side, holding her]

Derek: [good luck finding him. He's going to be pulling a Verity and heading for the rooftop]

Cora: [will curl up and lean into him]

Dawn: [nope, she's figured and she's going to try and cut him off before he jumps to the next building] Derek!

Derek: Dawn, I need to run right now.

Dawn: Okay. Okay, but when you get back we are going to talk about this, particularly with "I feel" statements.

Derek: [growls, but he's going to just spring away]

Dawn: [sighs, and she's just going to go back downstairs to wait. She sees Stiles and Cora and shakes her head] You guys should probably head back to the sheriff's for the night. I'll try and get him to cool off.

Stiles: No, honestly I'm ready to give him a few words of my own at the moment.

Cora: [just shakes her head as she gets up and takes Stiles' hand] No, we'll go. He can call me later.

Stiles: But that was completely unacceptable, Cora.

Cora: Stiles ... [she looks over at him and it's clear she doesn't want to talk about this here] ... let's just go? Please?

Stiles: [sighs] Okay.

Cora: [she nods and they will head back to the sheriff's house and she will probably just curl up on his bed, taking what's usually Stiles' side]

Stiles: [and he will rub her back] I'm sorry, Cora.

Cora: [she shakes her head] I knew it would be bad.

Stiles: He'll come around.

Cora: I know. But I didn't think it would be that bad.

Stiles: I think he's angry at more than just you, if that helps.

Cora: Yeah, maybe. We'll have to see what Dawn says.

Stiles: [kisses her head] Maybe Peter will take it better?

Cora: I guess we'll have to see.

Stiles: You want something to eat?

Cora: [she shakes her head before pulling him in closer] Just stay here.

Stiles: Okay. [and he will shift to hold her better]

Cora: [and she will bury her face in his shoulder as she snuggles against him, and we can leave them alone for a bit and skip back to Derek and Dawn?]

Derek: [he's not going to come back until much, much later]

Dawn: [that's cool, she'll be hanging out on the couch, reading a book, ready to hear those I feel statements she mentioned]

Derek: [when he gets home, he's going to head to the kitchen and start brewing coffee because it's going to be a long night then]

Dawn: [looks up when she sees him and sighs] Hey.

Derek: Hi.

Dawn: How're you doing?

Derek: Better.

Dawn: Wanna talk about it? [that's not a request]

Derek: Not really. [going to try anyway]

Dawn: Too bad. [inches over and pats the spot on the couch next to her]

Derek: [making his coffee] You want to do this with or without coffee?

Dawn: With coffee, if we're going to need it.

Derek: [and he will bring her over a cup, going to sit down next to her, leaning forward and focusing on his cup]

Dawn: [takes the cup on her hands and watches him for a moment] So. Your sister's pregnant.

Derek: Both. Both sisters are pregnant.

Dawn: Okay. Both sisters are pregnant. Neither of them did it on purpose.

Derek: [he just nods, sipping his coffee]

Dawn: So let's go: "I feel .... "

Derek: [just sighs]

Dawn: I'm not kidding, Derek.

Derek: I don't want to talk about it right now, Dawn.

Dawn: Yeah, well, I'm not going to let you stew on it. It's not healthy and you need to talk about this before you have to deal with your younger sister again.

Derek: [just sipping his coffee, but he's trying to find words]

Dawn: [and she will wait, sipping her coffee and watching him carefully]

Derek: I'm angry.

Dawn: At her?

Derek: At her. At Laura. Stiles. Parrish.... the entire Trojan enterprise. And myself.

Dawn: Why at you?

Derek: [and he puts his coffee down and clasps his hands, not wanting to say it to her]

Dawn: [puts her coffee down as well and reaches for his hands, turning him to face her more] Derek. Tell me.

Derek: [he sighs] Dawn...

Dawn: No, married now. You don't get to be all stoic and masochistic trying to protect my feelings. I can feel when you're upset remember?

Derek: [licks his lips] I'm mad that they are both pregnant and didn't want to be... and we've been trying hard and can't.

Dawn: [yeah, she thought so. and she sighs softly before inching forward and resting her chin against his shoulder] That's not something you can control.

Derek: No, but when you're the guy, it feels like a failure. Your fertility cycles. Mine is always on.

Dawn: It means that we're just not matching up. We'll get there eventually.

Derek: What if we don't. Or what if we can't.

Dawn: Then we have a ton of options. Adoption. Doctors. Mystical babies from alternate dimensions.

Derek: I know.

Dawn: Look, I know this is heavy and it's hard, but we'll figure it out. And what's going on with them is not an indictment on you.

Derek: I know, and I shouldn't have snapped at Cora but... it hurt more than I expected.

Dawn: I know. [there's a beat as she considers, rubbing his shoulders] I'm sorry.

Derek: But I'm still mad at them. They're too young.

Dawn: No, and you're justified in that. [there's a beat] Maybe we can help in that department.

Derek: How?

Dawn: Well, Cora's still probably going to want to finish school and stuff. And I'm assuming if she's telling us about it, she's probably planning on following through with the pregnancy. Maybe we could take care of the baby while they're finishing? Take some of the pressure off?

Derek: They would be far away from their child for a good portion of the year.

Dawn: Yeah. It would be their choice. But it's an option we could give them.

Derek: Yeah. We could.

Dawn: Plus if the baby is here, it can spend time with their cousin too. And it's not like Cora and Stiles can't come home when they want to.

Derek: It's more Cora's instincts kicking in. It'll depend on that.

Dawn: Then we can figure it out. But I'm sure that the sheriff will feel better about having the kid here, rather than up at Berkeley where the kids are on their own.

Derek: Peter too, when he learns of it.

Dawn: So maybe that's your olive branch.

Derek: [sighs] Yeah, okay.

Dawn: And it could be good practice for us.

Derek: Maybe.

Dawn: We'll figure it out, Derek.

Derek: I'll call her tomorrow and apologize.

Dawn: Good.

Derek: I'm still not happy with them though, but I can understand it wasn't their fault.

Dawn: [she nods] This could have happened even if the condom didn't break.

Derek: I really don't want to think about it, Dawn. It's my little sister having sex.

Dawn: Right. Sorry.

Derek: It's fine. I just want to go to bed and hopefully figure out how to deal with it in the morning.

Dawn: That sounds like a good plan.

Derek: You ready for bed?

Dawn: [she nods, reaching over to take his hand] Let's go.

Derek: [and off they go to bed, where he will end up staring at the ceiling awhile before finally drifting off]

Dawn: [and she will pass out with him, just curled up against his side and trying to be supportive.]

Derek: [and when he wakes up, he is going to look at his phone a moment and then send Cora a text] I'm sorry. I shouldn't have exploded at you like that. Can we talk privately so I can explain and apologize in person?

Cora: [is still curled up on Stiles' side of the bed with him between her and her phone so when she hears it buzz she very carefully tries to reach over him so she can grab it without waking him up]

Stiles: [just going to mumble and turn over, but she won't wake him]

Cora: [And she'll grab her phone and settle back next to him pressing against his back as she tries to decide whether or not to answer it]

Derek: [he's going to leave it just there and go to make breakfast]

Stiles: [will eventually stir]

Cora: [glances up as he does and smiles softly] Hi.

Stiles: [sleepy smile] Hey.

Cora: [holds up phone] Derek texted me.

Stiles: [squints and reads] That's good.

Cora: Yeah. I don't know what to text him back though.

Stiles: Lunch. You're paying?

Cora: [she snorts] I don't know if we should have this conversation in public. [and part of her wants to have Stiles there just for support, but she isn't sure if this is something she can negotiate]

Stiles: It doesn't have to be in public. It could be at the loft with a pizza while Dawn and I are in a different room.

Cora: [she nods a bit] I don't like that it's making me nervous about being with him.

Stiles: He probably just wants to explain and have it be just you two.

Cora: [that wasn't really the point, it isn't just what Derek said but the fact that he reacted so strongly and she has to be alone with him in general, but she'll nod and respond as Stiles suggested, texting Derek back with the request for pizza and that Stiles and Dawn will be there but elsewhere]

Derek: Sure, that's fine. What time do you want to come over?

Cora: Maybe in a couple hours?

Derek: Okay. I'll have the pizza here at one.

Cora: We'll be there. [and she'll put her phone to the side and curl up with Stiles again] He says the pizza'll be there at one.

Stiles: Good, then we can just stay like this until noon.

Cora: Read my mind.

Stiles: [grins and leans over to kiss her]

Cora: [kisses him back snuggling in closer as she does]

Stiles: [and they can kiss for a bit] Maybe Dawn talked a lot of sense into him?

Cora: Maybe. Hopefully.

Stiles: Think positively.

Cora: I'm trying.

Stiles: And kick him in the junk if he's still an ass.

Cora: [there's a bit of a look at that, but there's more uncertainty to it too. She and Derek have come a long way and they're still missing a lot of time that they could have been together and weren't. It's possible that part of her is still wondering if he would reject her if she did something wrong but she doesn't really know how to put that into words]

Stiles: What? I would. I can totally do it for you.

Cora: No, don't.

Stiles: Okay, I won't. Because he'd probably bite me or something.

Cora: He would.

Stiles: I'm not afraid of him, you know. Never was.

Cora: [and that she will just give him another look for]

Stiles: I may have wanted him dead for those first few weeks, but that's different.

Cora: Mmmm-hmmm.

Stiles: it was a really confusing time.

Cora: I can imagine.

Stiles: He kept threatening to rip my throat out with his teeth. We kept trying to frame him for murder.

Cora: So I've been told.

Stiles: Funny how he's going to one day be my brother-in-law now.

Cora: The world is weird that way.

Stiles: I kinda like it that way.

Cora: Me too.

Stiles: [kisses her nose]

Cora: [sighs up as she curls up with him] I love you.

Stiles: I love you too, Cora. SO much.

Cora: I know. And I'm sorry we're in this.

Stiles: Not your fault, Cora. We just need to stop regretting it, ok?

Cora: I know. But that's going to take a while.

Stiles: I'll just keep reminding you. [kiss]

Cora: [kisses him back with a small smile] Thank you.

Stiles: [and he's going to just kiss, and maybe lightly make out with her?]

Cora: [yep, that's all good, but probably not further than that before they have to go see Derek. She'll want to shower and stuff before they get there so there isn't anything else to additionally set Derek off]

Derek: [and he is going to appreciate that. He also showers for her sake too]

Cora: [good. no unnecessary triggers. And Dawn will take Stiles out to the balcony when they get there to chat while they eat their pizza, leaving Cora and Derek in the main room together]

Derek: [and he will put the pizza between them, offering her the first slice]

Cora: [and she will take it, slowly, going to eat it and not really sure what to say]

Derek: I'm sorry I snapped, Cora. I just... it hit a nerve and it was more than just you I was angry at and I shouldn't have focused it on you. I'm sorry.

Cora: [she nods a bit before looking down at her hands] I mean, I know. I didn't think it would be a good reaction.

Derek: I mean, I am disappointed. I'm angry, but most of my anger... it's at me more than you.

Cora: Why? I mean ... it happened but it's not like you told me to get knocked up.

Derek: No... I'm angry because ever since the wedding Dawn and I have been trying to have a baby. But nothing's working. And then first Laura... now you...

Cora: We didn't mean to. And it's only been a few months since the wedding. You guys have time.

Derek: I know you didn't. But it doesn't change how I feel. [because Derek is a perfectionist]

Cora: I know.

Derek: So you have every right to be pissed at me.

Cora: [she looks down at her hands] I just ... don't want things to be bad between us.

Derek: I don't either. Especially after everything we've all been through.

Cora: So we're okay?

Derek: We're okay. We're going to have a strong talk about using a second barrier for safer sex moving forward, but we're okay.

Cora: [she gives him a bit of a look at that because it's not like she wasn't doing all she could, but she's relaxing because she knows that things are better now] Okay.

Derek: So what are you two planning on doing?

Cora: We don't know. We're still ... trying to figure things out. I haven't even been to the doctor yet.

Derek: Well, let me know if I can help in any way. Dawn and I were talking about being available to you to watch the baby while you're still in school.

Cora: Oh yeah?

Derek: Yeah.

Cora: That could be good. I mean, I still want to finish, and Stiles is further behind than I am.

Derek: We can invest in a bigger apartment up that way. Dawn's still got work there too.

Cora: [she nods] I mean, we could put the baby in there, but if you guys are going to move back then we'll need something bigger.

Derek: I still want to make Beacon Hills home, but I don't mind doing the back and forth if you're there.

Cora: [she nods] It'll be good, I think.

Derek: I think so too. [sighs] I just... Give me some time to work myself out of my own head?

Cora: [she nods] Yeah. Okay. [she makes a face] I still have to tell Peter.

Derek: Actually, you may find he's the easiest to tell.

Cora: You think so?

Derek: I think so. He's a thinker. A planner. He'll want to strategize, not react with emotions.

Cora: He also has a faster temper than he used to.

Derek: You know he won't hurt you.

Cora: No, but he might hurt Stiles. Which is why he's not going to be there when I tell him.

Derek: Good plan. He can stay here if you want. I won't kill him.

Cora: [she nods] I don't know when I'm going to see him though. We haven't made plans.

Derek: Just let me know when you do.

Cora: I will. For now, I just want to eat pizza.

Derek: Well, you are eating for two now. Take as much as you want.

Cora: [so she's going to take that as permission to eat most of the pizza.]

Derek: [and they can dissolve into chit chat about school now]

Cora: [yep and eventually she'll text Peter and see if he's free for dinner, just him]

Peter: [and he is, surprise surprise]

Cora: [so she'll solidify that and let Stiles know that he should stay here]

Stiles: Do you need battle armor?

Cora: [she shakes her head] But Derek said he'll stay with you to make sure you don't need it either.

Stiles: [looks at Derek] You're not just saying that so you can punch me in the face when she's gone, right?

Derek: For now. Later I can't promise.

Cora: [gives her brother a look that says be nice, before turning and kissing Stiles gently] I'll be back later.

Stiles: [takes her hand, squeezing gently] I love you.

Cora: Love you too. [And with that, off she goes to see Peter]

Peter: [and he will be there, cooking them dinner]

Cora: [and she'll let herself in with a small smile] Hey.

Peter: Hello, sweetheart. Come sit down. I am almost done with this.

Cora: [nods as she makes her way over] Smells good.

Peter: I thought I would do something simple so I dug up an old Hale recipe for your great grandmothers meatballs.

Cora: [her eyes widen a bit] That ... I barely remember those.

Peter: Then you're in for a treat. [he opened the over and pulled out a cookie tray with two garlic breads on it. He put them on the counter and went to start loading them up with meatballs and then freshly shredded mozzarella on top]

Cora: [yep, this dinner was a good choice]

Peter: [and he is going to put the food between them] What do you want to drink?

Cora: Just water is okay.

Peter: [and there will be a water for her, and a beer for him] So how's college going? Stiles settling in well?

Cora: Yeah, it's going great. How're things here?

Peter: Going well. [he still hasn't told anyone about asking Buffy to marry him...]

Cora: Good. [you might want to save that news for what's coming next]

Peter: So where is the whirlwind of a boyfriend of yours?

Cora: Hanging out with Derek and Dawn. [there's a beat] There's something I have to tell you.

Peter: Oh?

Cora: [beat one. beat two. she drums her fingers against the table and sighs] I'm pregnant.

Peter: [and his eyes widen] You're what?

Cora: [and she knows he heard her so she's just going to ... sit here and let him process that]

Peter: [and his face is going to get into that hard, flat line before he downs the rest of his beer] How.

Cora: [THAT WAS NOT A QUESTION SHE WAS EXPECTING and it shows on her face but she hopes that he'll accept her fear of the situation as a cover for her racing heartbeat] Condom broke.

Peter: Mmm hmm. [that was a try again noise. (nat 20)]

Cora: [gdi Peter. Her eyes drop to her food and she really doesn't want to have to explain this to him, because it's partially her fault, and she knows it. she was too in over her head to think clearly]

Peter: [he sighs, sitting back down and looking at her before shaking his head] Has the mating urge been getting stronger too?

Cora: [her eyes close and she leans back in her seat some more] It only happened once. [which she knows is all it takes, but she feels like she needs to at least put that out there]

Peter: You're young. It will happen more often than you will like. Trust me, I remember being a teenager.

Cora: [yeah, well. she gets it now] Once was enough.

Peter: Once is all it takes. Male wolves have it easier, since human women can use their own control. You and Laura don't have that luxury.

Cora: [she shakes her head] We really were careful, aside from that.

Peter: I believe you, sweetheart. Sometimes things just happen. We can only move forward.

Cora: [she nods] Derek says he might move up to Berkeley to help while I'm still in school.

Peter: That's good. It will let you finish your education. [one less thing to worry about]

Cora: [she nods] I do still want to finish.

Peter: Good. You will, then. What about Stiles?

Cora: He's planning on it. His dad wants him to get a job too, but I told him we're pretty much okay, money wise.

Peter: You're more than okay money wise.

Cora: I know.

Peter: Do you two have a plan yet?

Cora: ... Not really. Other than I'm probably going to have to take next year off. If Derek and Dawn come up, we're going to need a bigger apartment.

Peter: That or just another unit in their building. I can help you with the leasing on that. We can also work to get furnishings and other needs.

Cora: [she nods] We've got a while before that though. I think Stiles just wants to get through his summer classes and I'm not going to be due until March, earliest.

Peter: You can keep doing classes through the fall semester if you want.

Cora: We'll see. [she might be showing by then and she doesn't want that kind of attention]

Peter: Whatever help you need, sweetheart, I will provide it. Family does help each other through times like this, right?

Cora: [she nods] Thank you.

Peter: You're welcome. [because he can give her what he didn't get to have]

Cora: [she nods and drums her fingers against the table] So we're okay. And you're not going to murder Stiles?

Peter: I'm not going to murder him. I may growl at him a bit for not being more assertive and trying to pull you back, but he has to be there to give you help changing diapers.

Cora: Thank you.

Peter: [gives her a small smile and goes back to eating]

Cora: [does the same, and she'll let him talk about local stuff for the rest of the night]

Peter: [thinks] If I share something with you, will you keep it from your siblings for a while?

Cora: [she glances up and nods]

Peter: I asked Buffy to marry me.

Cora: [her eyes go wide] What'd she say?

Peter: Yes.

Cora: That's great! [a beat] Why am I not telling Derek and Laura?

Peter: Buffy wants to tell Dawn, of course. And we're not in a rush. I wanted to let Derek’s wedding pass and now with you and Laura’s babies... I don't want to make a big thing out of it.

Cora: [she nods] Okay. I'll wait for you to tell them.

Peter: Thanks. [smiles] But it is pretty great.

Cora: It is. I'm happy for you.

Peter: I would offer you a glass of champagne to celebrate.

Cora: [wrinkles her nose] I don't like it anyway.

Peter: So how about ice cream instead?

Cora: [grins] Perfect.

Peter: [and they can resolve into chit chat over sundaes]

Cora: [yep and once it's done she will text Stiles to see if he's still with Derek]

Stiles: Yup. He's hung me over the railing, threatened my life if I ever hurt you, and now we're playing chess.

Cora: [..... Derek.] On my way back.

Stiles: [he's just joking. it was just a very strong grip on his shoulder and typical treat her right threats] Okay.

Cora: [and a few minutes later she will reappear through the door] I'm back.

Derek: [lifts his head up] Hey, we're over here.

Stiles: Your brother isn't able to take me in chess.

Cora: That so? [she makes her way over to lean on Stiles' side of the table]

Derek: I'm still learning.

Stiles: Not really.

Cora: You've been trained from a young age.

Stiles: No excuse.

Derek: You want to try me on the basketball court?

Cora: I don't think that's a bet you want to take.

Stiles: Nope. I'm pretty good winning at this.

Cora: I thought so.

Stiles: Time to go?

Cora: [she nods] Yep.

Derek: You and Peter go okay?

Cora: He's not pleased but he's not going to be killing my boyfriend anytime soon.

Stiles: I like that result.

Derek: You should.

Cora: Hopefully everything should be okay from here on out.

Derek: I hope so.

Stiles: [gets up] You keep practicing. [to Cora] Let's go. We can get dinner for me on the way.

Cora: [she nods] Sounds good. Bye, Derek.

Derek: [waves goodbye]

Stiles: [takes her hand and off they go]

Cora: [back to Stiles' house with the appropriate detour for food]

Stiles: So we survived telling the family. One left.

Cora: Who's that?

Stiles: Scott

Cora: Oh. [a beat] Do you want me to do that with you?

Stiles: Do you want to?

Cora: [she shrugs] It's up to you. Will it be easier or harder with me there?

Stiles: It's Scott. he will be confused, shocked, probably chide me a bit, and then will be happy since we're happy?

Cora: [nods] That's true.

Stiles: He'll probably call a little pack meeting and we can tell everyone then.

Cora: [her eyes widen a bit at that because ... that's not really what she wants]

Stiles: I take it I should get him to not do that?

Cora: [she shakes her head] No, I don't want that kind of attention.

Stiles: Okay. But we will probably need to tell them. Because then they will want to know why we didn't.

Cora: No, I know, I don't want them not to know. I just ... don't want it to be all at once.

Stiles: I know, but also it's Scott and he will probably end up telling them before we do.

Cora: [grits her teeth and looks away] That doesn't exactly make the prospect easier, Stiles. There's a reason why I wanted to do these one at a time.

Stiles: I know, I know. So how do you want to do this?

Cora: [takes a deep breath] How about when you tell Scott, I'll tell Lydia and Malia. Honestly, I don't care how Liam finds out and Scott will know how reachable Kira is. We'd have to tell Isaac and Allison long distance anyway, so we can save them for last?

Stiles: That... would work.

Cora: Good.

Stiles: We can do that tomorrow though.

Cora: Yeah. Tonight I need to just ... breathe.

Stiles: Dinner and a movie then?

Cora: Sounds perfect.

Stiles: [and they can go and do that]
