puppy love } { of family dinners and overprotective fathers
Derek: [and sine Baal wants to see her, he would invite her over for dinner the night after]
Allison: [which she would agree to and even bring dessert, though it's store bought because Allison cannot cook]
Derek: [That's fine, because Derek can and he will have Baal clean his room and the boy will be in the living room drawing while watching Sesame Street]
Allison: [And she knocks lightly on the door, crumb cake under one arm]
Baal: [and his head snaps up] May I answer the door, Papa?
Derek: Sure, but remember to ask who it is first.
Baal: [and he will go to the door, smelling at the crack] I must ask who it is!
Allison: [she laughs] It's Allison.
Baal: Papa! It's Mama Allison. May I open it now?
Derek: [laughs] Yes, you may.
Baal: [and he will open the door, looking up at her and smiling] Hi!
Allison: [smiles in return] Hey, kiddo. I brought crumb cake.
Baal: What is a crumb cake?
Allison: [crouches down to show him] It's a vanilla cake with cinnamon crumbs on top.
Baal: [sniffs it a bit] I smell sugar.
Allison: There is definitely sugar. It's for dessert.
Baal: I'm not supposed to have sugar before bed.
Derek: [coming into the hallway, smiling] I think we can make an exception tonight.
Allison: Yes. It's rude to tell a guest you can't accept a gift.
Baal: I was being rude? I am sorry, mama Allison. I did not know.
Allison: No, not at all. That was more for your father than it was for you.
Derek: Baal, why don't you take this into the kitchen and put it on the table, okay?
Baal: Yes, Papa. [and he will take the cake into the kitchen carefully]
Derek: [and he will step closer and lean in to kiss her] Hi.
Allison: [smiles as she kisses him back] Hi.
Derek: I missed you. [and his hands will run along her arms]
Allison: I missed you too. [she glances towards Baal] How's he doing?
Derek: [and he will look over his shoulder to look where he is taking in the kitchen scents] He's doing better. He slept inside last night, but he won't sleep with the door closed. He needs to be able to see into another room.
Allison: It'll fade. I'm sorry he got put through that, though.
Derek: Me too. He thought he was going to be safe here from things like that.
Allison: Well, the man responsible is dead, and the rest of his allies soon to be, so he won't have to worry about them anymore.
Derek: And neither will I. For both of your sakes. [and he will kiss her again]
Allison: [kisses him back] So what's for dinner?
Derek: Curry. I wasn't sure how spicy you would like it so I made it mild but I can add more spice if needed.
Allison: I've never had it before, but I'll try it and we can see.
Derek: A lot of our food is too sweet for what Baal is used to, so I've been learning to make meals he's used to. Sometimes it's good.
Baal: [rejoining them] And sometimes we order pizza.
Allison: [she laughs] Well it's better than if I was cooking it. The house would constantly smell like burnt food and we would be eating a lot of pizza.
Baal: Then it is a good thing Papa can cook for us both.
Allison: Very good.
Derek: Baal, why don't you show Allison what you were drawing, and I will finish with dinner, ok?
Baal: Okay. [and he will take Allison's hand] Please come with me.
Allison: [nods as she takes his hand] Lead the way.
Baal: [and he will take her to the living room where Sesame street is still playing. He will show her the pictures he has drawn of his new family. Mostly of playing with Ben and Hope]
Allison: [and she looks over all of them] You like playing with Ben and Hope, huh?
Baal: Yes. They are my best of friends.
Allison: Good, I'm glad. Best friends are important.
Baal: [nods] That is what the colored puppets say. [he points at the tv]
Allison: [she glances up with a grin] Oh, I loved Sesame Street.
Baal: You watched this as a child?
Allison: I did. It's been on TV for a long time.
Baal: Oh. It does not look old. Do the puppets not age?
Allison: Nope. Puppets live forever.
Baal: Whoa.
Allison: But the people do. See Maria, there? She was a young woman when I was watching.
Baal: Does it concern the puppets that the people get old but they never do?
Allison: Probably, yes. But they understand that them getting older isn't always a bad thing.
Baal: [nods, looking at the screen a moment] It they are very old, why have they not learned their letters yet?
Allison: Well, there are new Muppets all the time, and they need to learn. And they're trying to help kids like you learn.
Baal: So they pretend to relearn the alphabet?
Allison: Sometimes.
Baal: Oh.
Derek: [and he will lean into the doorway] Dinner is ready.
Allison: [gives him a small smile] Let's go eat.
Derek: [and he will serve them up a nice dinner]
Allison: [mmmmmm dinner]
Derek: [and then after there is dessert and maybe a bit of Mario Cart?]
Allison: [sure, which Allison is bad at]
Baal: [being the kid, he is the best at the video game, and proud of himself when he wins] You will need to play more with me, mama Allison, to get better.
Allison: I would love that.
Baal: [grins]
Derek: I think it's time for you to get ready for bed though, kiddo.
Allison: [glances down at her watch] Oooh. It's late.
Baal: But unlike Ben and Hope, I do not have school tomorrow.
Derek: No, but you still have homeschooling with me. And we need our morning jog and my coffee or else you may have to take a spelling test.
Baal: [bites his bottom lip] If I go to bed now though, can we go later than 5 am?
Derek: [smiles a bit] Maybe.
Baal: [looks at Allison] It has been a good night with you, mama Allison. I must go to sleep now.
Allison: It was a great night, but I understand. Sweet dreams, Baal.
Baal: [and he will go over and hug her goodnight] Goodnight, mama Allison.
Allison: [gives him a small hug in return] Goodnight.
Baal: [and he will go to his bedroom, closing the bedroom door halfway.]
Derek: So it's just us.
Allison: It is.
Derek: Would you like to come look at my book collection in the back room?
Allison: Sure. That would be nice.
Derek: [and he will quickly make sure the front door is locked, look in to see Baal already in bed, and then hold out his hand to Allison] Then let's go see if there's something in there you'd enjoy reading.
Emily Proulx (23:24:46): Allison: [she nods and takes his hand to follow his lead, and they're totally going to go look at some books]
Derek: [yup, until he closes the door and turns on the radio with the soft jazz music]
Allison: [very romantic book reading. Though probably just that because Allison feels a little weird about messing around with a kid not too far away.]
Derek: [well, he is hoping the music and the closed door will give them a bit of privacy, no matter what they do. But he is going to go over and kiss her]
Allison: [and she'll kiss him back, because she likes doing that, but if it starts to get to more than that she might balk a little]
Derek: [nah, he's good with kissing and cuddling until Friday]
Allison: [good, because she is very good with that]
Derek: [and when they take a breathing break] So are you really okay? I know physically...
Allison: Yeah. I'm really okay. I mean, I feel terrible that the kids got taken because of me, but they're all okay, and the Turners are dead, so anything else I can live with.
Derek: [rubbing his hand along her arm gently] I don't know if I could handle thinking someone in my family wanted to kill me
Allison: Malcolm wasn't blood. He was part of the Argent Family only in terms of hunting.
Derek: [nods] Okay.
Allison: The only blood family I have left is my dad.
Derek: How is your dad doing?
Allison: He's good. Though I have a feeling he's going to be heading out here sooner rather than later.
Derek: For work or something more permanent?
Allison: Probably more to just make sure I'm not lying when I say I'm fine.
Derek: Should I be worried about us?
Allison: No? I mean, my dad knew about us in high school.
Derek: Yeah, and then I left. [and not going to state what happened in the middle]
Allison: Well, his opinion on us isn't going to affect my decision. If it affects yours, then ... that's your call to make.
Derek: [deep breath] It doesn't affect my feelings to you or my desire to be with you. I just don't want to bring up bad feelings from what happened.
Allison: Well, I don't think my dad is going to want to shoot you.
Derek: Well, I hope not. That would put a big dent in our relationship if he does.
Allison: Very. But he also hasn't told me he's coming, so it may be a while before you have to deal with him.
Derek: We'll just have to wait and see. [and he can prewarn his sisters]
Allison: He's usually good about giving me notice after that one time in college where he showed up at a really inopportune moment and my boyfriend at the time almost got arrested by the police for streaking as a result.
Derek: [.... yeah, he's going to laugh at that]
Allison: [as he should. that was the point] Yep. That was fun.
Derek: I didn't have those kinds of problems, thank god.
Allison: Fingers crossed that we don't have them again.
Derek: I'd prefer not to go streaking across campus, thanks. [smirks]
Allison: I would also prefer that you don't.
Derek: Then we agree on that.
Allison: We do.
Derek: [and he is going to sigh and lean back a bit, just content being together]
Allison: [and they will keep snuggling and Allison will probably spend the night and try to sneak out in the morning before Baal is awake]
