spamalot } { of angry alphas and conversations with eyebrows
[While making his rounds throughout the night, Jason notices Derek and Fiona tangled together and reports back to Laura, who is very curious about this turn of events.]
Jason: You know, for a very tight knit family, he's good at keeping secrets from the rest of you.
Laura: [shakes her head] He's always been one to keep some things for himself. He would have told us when he was ready.
Jason: Well, the fact sleeping with her tonight probably points that he's ready.
Laura: Or he's too exhausted to realize what he's doing. That would be the other way to get stuff he's keeping to himself out of him.
Jason: I like my answer better [laughs]
Laura: [she laughs a bit herself, before tugging him back into bed, closer to her] Thank you, for today.
Jason: [slides back, leaning over her and running a hand along her face] This is my family too now, right? I'll be here to take care of them, especially you, always.
Laura: [she nods as she leans in to kiss him gently, still so much gratitude and love in it all the same. He probably saved her sister's life. She still needs to thank him for that]
Jason: [will always take those kisses, even if he's also tired and so ready to fall back asleep with her again]
Laura: [she's pretty tired herself, so it isn't more than that, but she will exhale slowly as she pulls back to settle into bed next to him]
Jason: [pulls her into his arms, being all protective over his little wolf as they go back to sleep.]
Laura: [yep, pretty much out as soon as he settles. It was a long day.]
Derek: [next morning, Derek is already up and refreshed, letting Fiona sleep in as he's in the kitchen working on making breakfast and coffee. He already had the talk with her when he woke up about getting Bob and clothes for her on his way back from work, but he needs to find someone to come to work with him]
Talia: [has been up most of the night and eventually dozed off on the couch at some point in the wee hours, more hypervigilence than anything else, and wakes when she smells the coffee from the kitchen. Eventually she makes her way out there, reaching for a mug of her own] Good morning. How's Fiona?
Derek: Doing a lot better. I asked her to stay here for a few days with me while we figure out what Deucalion’s planning. I'm going to go pick up Bob from Deaton on my way home from work. How's Cora?
Talia: Sleeping. She was up for a little around three, but she's probably going to be in and out for a while. [and she wouldn't be surprised if she had a certain human on her front porch every day until he's allowed to see her, but they'll cross that bridge when they come to it]
Derek: As long as she's healing, she'll recover. She had a very close call.
Talia: She did. But thankfully we got there when we did.
Derek: I wish I had been faster to help.
Talia: [she shakes her head, resting a hand on his shoulder] They were already out there before we even knew what was happening. Even if you were at the house, they probably still would have gotten hurt. I'm just glad you were here to help keep the rest of them safe.
Derek: [nods] So what do we do next?
Talia: [sighs softly] I don't know. I'm going to go see Deaton with Peter after you get back from work, see if we can come up with some kind of strategy.
Derek: Can I come?
Talia: [she shakes her head] I need you here, just in case. Malia will be here, and Scott may be too after school. You and Laura should be here with Jason. [aka protect the babies. she wouldn't be going if Deaton's wasn't safer for Deaton with the mountain ash, and Peter is her number two.]
Derek: [just nods] Alright. [which is also protect each other, because Derek is pretty sure if they went after Cora and Scott, he and Laura are also on whatever hit list]
Talia: [yep. Smart boy. She nods in agreement, giving his shoulder a squeeze as she does] And if Stiles shows up, tell him that Cora will call him when she's up to it. He means well, but he'd be a bit much for her right now. [even if she knows Cora would want to see him]
Derek: You are assuming that he would use the front door. [because Derek has seen Stiles climbing into Scott's window the few times he has watched the baby beta]
Talia: [purses her lips] Do your best.
Derek: I'll try, mom. I just hope Jason or Laura is willing to come with me to work, but I have to leave soon.
Talia: [she nods before placing her coffee cup down] I'll go see if one of them are awake.
Derek: Thanks. I'm going to take Fiona her breakfast and get dressed for work. I'll be down in 15 minutes to leave.
Talia: [nods and heads upstairs to check on her eldest]
Derek: [and he's walking upstairs with a cup of coffee, bacon and eggs for Fiona (protein ftw) along with some fruit on a tray that he puts on the side table and leans over to kiss her forehead] Here's your breakfast.
Fiona: [she stirs a bit at that and the smell of food. She smiles a bit, before pushing herself up to reach for a piece of the bacon] Thank you.
Derek: You're welcome. I'm going to get ready for work and head out, but Mom knows you're staying here to give her a hand in case anything comes along. Just text me if you need me, alright?
Fiona: As soon as I get a new phone. Or I'll borrow Talia's. [because she's still annoyed at the alpha pack smashed hers]
Derek: You have a burner at the apartment?
Fiona: [makes a face as she tries to think] No. I used my last one on another job. I was meaning to replace it.
Derek: There's a phone shop three stores down. I'll grab you one on my lunch break.
Fiona: [nods a bit as she reaches for another piece of bacon] Be careful today.
Derek: I will. And I'm either going to have my sister or Rocky the Raccoon with me, so I'll have backup too.
Fiona: [there's a beat. then an eyebrow raise]
Derek: What? [grinning just a bit]
Fiona: Rocky the Raccoon?
Derek: I'm a little brother. It's in the job description to be a pain in the ass to my sister and all her boyfriends. I take that very seriously.
Fiona: Yeah, but why Rocky the Raccoon? [she knows nothing about what Jason is. She thought he was another wolf or human]
Derek: Oh. Oh, you didn't know. Um, he's a tanuki. [and he's going to start getting changed while explaining] I've only seen him transform once, and he's pretty damn impressive, but he lives a human life for the most part.
Fiona: [her eyes widen a bit] No shit! I thought they didn't leave Japan.
Derek: He came here to study medicine, and met Laura from what I gather. They're pretty serious at this point, so I think he's staying.
Fiona: Cool. [and slowly pushes herself into a sitting position and watching him because even if she feels more like a giant bruise than a person at the moment, she can still objectify her boyfriend, thank you.] I'll have to ask him about it later, if he doesn't mind.
Derek: He probably won't. At this point, he's pack. [and her sleeping here with him last night all but made her pack as well now]
Fiona: [she nods again, before reaching for her eggs to start eating them] Do you have a long shift?
Derek: Eight hours. The curse of being one of the employees not in school currently means I get the full time weekday shifts.
Fiona: [she smiles a bit, before nodding] Then I hope it goes fast.
Derek: It usually does. And then I'll be back here for the rest of the day protecting the house while Mom and Peter go to talk to Deaton about yesterday.
Fiona: [nods a bit] I don't think Deucalion will come at her again so soon. But it's better to be careful.
Derek: I don't either, but if we all think that... then he will because that means we will be thinking there's a few days to regroup.
Fiona: [nods] Just be safe.
Derek: I will. And you rest so you can be ready to help when he tries again. [grins and leans in for a kiss] Got to go. Behave yourself
Fiona: I always behave myself. [returns the kiss with a smile, before letting him go]
Laura: [is downstairs ready to go, laptop tucked under one arm] Ready?
Derek: [comes down, all smiles when he sees his sister] Yup. I'll buy you breakfast at the cafe while I'm prepping for opening.
Laura: [grins back] Sounds perfect. I'm letting Jason sleep since he was up checking on patients.
Derek: [grabs his jacket and goes to open the door for her] Well, he is very attentive. Plus he is good at his job.
Laura: He is. [she waits until they're out by his car before] And he noticed that you and Fiona seemed ... close.
Derek: [and that is your brother blushing just a bit] Close meaning she slept in my bed last night?
Laura: [she smirks] With you. Very snuggly.
Derek: [bites the side of his lip before shaking his head] Well, that's what happens when you've been dating someone for a few weeks. [and there's a smile there]
Laura: Aha. So there was a girl.
Derek: You say that like you've been expecting this news?
Laura: There were hints, when I was here last time.
Derek: Oh? [and he climbs into the car] What hints?
Laura: You said something about good things. Things you weren't ready to talk about? That usually means a girl.
Derek: Yeah, but with me girls usually don't last this long.
Laura: Which makes me want to be a nosy sister and figure out what it is about this girl.
Derek: You aren't going to give her the third degree when we get home now, are you?
Laura: No. I'm gonna give you the third degree right now.
Derek: Even better. [full sarcasm as he pulls out of the driveway and heads towards town]
Laura: [sarcasm will not stop her] So how'd you meet her?
Derek: She came out here to help Mom with Scott, and started to frequent the coffee shop.
Laura: Did you know she was helping Mom?
Derek: I figured it out when she was walking out of the house as I was walking in.
Laura: Ahh. And you two started dating after that?
Derek: Well, no, not right away.
Laura: So how did it happen? I'm a girl, I like details.
Derek: [gives her a look] Cora and I went on a trip, and without her knowing the details, she told me not to be afraid to ask.
Laura: [she smiles a bit] Awww, and you listened.
Derek: Yes, I listened.
Laura: Good, I'm glad.
Derek: Me too. [small smirk]
Laura: So you two are happy?
Derek: I want to think so.
Laura: Good.
Derek: Speaking of which - you and Jason looking to move to the next step anytime soon?
Laura: [exhales slowly, leaning back in the seat] I don't know. We'll see how him being here goes.
Derek: You aren't afraid to have him around in all this, are you?
Laura: No, no. I know he can take care of himself. I'm not worried about the danger. I just know we can be a lot to break into. And Beacon Hills is ... well, Beacon Hills.
Derek: Yeah, I know that concern. I worry about it too with Fiona just because of the things that tend to be attracted to us in this town.
Laura: I know she's human but she's also an emissary. She knows how to protect herself - last night being an exception to the rule.
Derek: Oh, trust me, I'm well aware of that. [chuckles] But think about it. Attacking us is a way to draw mom out. What are they going to use to draw us out?
Laura: If they try to attack Jason, they're idiots. [because it's one thing to tease him about being a raccoon dog - they don't want to piss him off]
Derek: Right. Which brings it down to three options: Malia, Stiles, or Fiona.
Laura: Stiles would be the easiest target. He's separate from the pack, he's got his dad. He'd be a way to hit Cora and Scott both.
Derek: Which is why Mom's going to hate me, but if Stiles comes to visit Cora today, I'm going to do my duty and tell him to leave, but I may keep the window in her room unlocked and cracked. [because Stiles being in the house isn't going to hurt Cora any, and may give the human an idea on how serious this all is]
Laura: [sighs softly] I don't think you're wrong about that. [there's a beat] Has Scott told his mom yet?
Derek: Don't know. I'll ask him if he comes over later
Laura: [she nods a bit] If there was a time to tell her, it's now.
Derek: I agree, but that's Scott and Mom's call. Not ours.
Laura: [she nods] But Jason's going to be starting at the hospital, so she should have someone there with her, just in case.
Derek: Maybe Peter would be better to talk to first, to see if he can take the initiative on that as mom's second?
Laura: [nods] Maybe. And now we have Isaac to deal with.
Derek: Isaac's my responsibility. I'll watch over him.
Laura: Make sure you drag Malia in on that, since she's the one who told him.
Derek: Yeah, that was very awkward.
Laura: It's better than him getting ideas and trying to dig through them, I'll admit, but ... [sighs] ... she's a bit too much like Peter sometimes.
Derek: You said that about me too when I was a teenager. I turned out well. [smiles]
Laura: Yes, well, she actually has his DNA.
Derek: Maybe we need to get him a girlfriend. [thinks] Scott's mom is single, isn't she?
Laura: [there's a beat] She's got great legs.
Derek: And if she can handle both Scott and Stiles, she must have the patience of a saint.
Laura: I don't know. If there's a shot of getting her with another single parent it'd probably be the sheriff. There's too much history there.
Derek: But then we lose the whole getting Peter a girlfriend plan.
Laura: Well, there has to be other single women out there.
Derek: This is Beacon Hills, Laura. We know all the women in town.
Laura: Maybe we should look outside Beacon Hills.
Derek: We could go online. [pulls into the coffee house.] Match.com?
Laura: I'll do some investigating. [there's a beat] Do we know how Malia is going to feel about setting her dad up with someone?
Derek: Probably not like it and try to sabotage it because she is daddy's little girl and has all of his attention.
Laura: So we should just not tell her.
Derek: Nope. Maybe we shouldn't tell him either until we just set him up for the blind date.
Laura: [she shakes her head] I don't know. Online dating sounds a little risky.
Derek: Dating in general is risky.
Laura: But online dating is just ... I think we'd be better off finding a girl we can vet here.
Derek: Well, I'll leave it to you while I deal with Isaac and use it to distract Malia.
Laura: [salutes] You got it.
Derek: And now, time for work. And during lunch, I need to get Fiona a new phone.
Laura: You want me to pick it up?
Derek: Nah, lunch break. We can get lunch at the same time.
Laura: Okay. Bring me food and I'll set up.
Derek: [leans over and kisses his sister's cheek] Best older sister ever.
Laura: [she grins] You know it.
Derek: [and time to get to work, busy making coffee for the morning rush hour crowd like he was born to it. Laura can get to watch all the girls try and flirt with him and he flirts back, but only enough to be nice but for once not to try and go anywhere but getting a nice tip]
Laura: [sets up in a corner with her headphones in so that no one will talk to her but she's not actually listening to anything, just smirking in amusement at her brother]
Derek: [she's lucky he can't hear her lack of music over the music in the cafe]
Laura: Yes, well the facade isn't for him.
Derek: [and this would be about the time Ennis walks in for a cup of coffee. Derek smells him immediately and looks up, then over at his sister] Can I help you, sir?
Ennis: Sure. [and he describes Fiona's order perfectly] But you can leave the little heart off the foam.
Laura: [yeah, she's aware. And she's getting up and making like she's going to order a cup of coffee but she's not. She's just going to be ready to go on the offensive if she needs to]
Derek: [rings Ennis up, keeping his poker face on, then goes to make the drink but doesn't turn his back on the alpha]
Ennis: You know, you still owe me, pup. Just because everything went wrong, doesn't mean that I've forgotten. Maybe I'll just have to try again and see if it sticks this time.
Derek: [his jaw tightens]
Laura: [just watches the scene intensely, eyes boring into the back of Ennis's shoulders, to drive home the point that he is not alone. And two betas could probably take an alpha - especially if one of them is thoroughly pissed off]
Ennis: [oh, he sees you in the mirror, Laura, and he just smirks] Of course, I may just do it because I enjoyed listening to her scream last time. You like making her scream too, don't you Derek? When you think no one is listening to the two of you late at night?
Derek: [there's a soft growl now as Ennis gets further under Derek's skin, but he closes his eyes and forces a smile to his face as he puts the coffee on the ledge, The smile is deadly though, full of anger and dark promises to rip the alpha's head off] Have a wonderful day.
Ennis: [takes the coffee and nods his head] Oh, I'm sure I will. [and he turns to go, leaving Derek and Laura alone in the coffee house, and Derek shaking]
Laura: [her voice is low, but she knows that Derek can hear her] Take a break.
Derek: Alley. [nods and goes to find his very human coworker in the back room and tags out, then all but rips his apron off and goes out the back door]
Laura: [heads back to the table and slams her laptop closed, tucking it back under her arm and heading around to meet him]
Derek: [is pacing, trying to find his control because he's never been good at keeping his anger down and finally he just transforms and turns around, punching his fist against the metal dumpster and denting it in deeply as he snarls in frustration]
Laura: [startles and glances back over her shoulder to make sure no one saw that, before making her way closer to him] Derek, you need to breathe.
Derek: I'm going to kill him. [he hasn't shifted back, eyes blue and claws out]
Laura: No, you need to calm down. He is baiting you, and you know it.
Derek: I don't care. [he's struggling though, trying to find his anchor]
Laura: [she puts her stuff down on the ground before reaching for him and grabbing him roughly by his shoulders] Derek, listen to me. [her eyes flash gold at the challenge, hoping that being the older wolf will help] You need to get a grip before someone sees you.
Derek: [snarls at her, then shuts his eyes and forces himself to calm himself down and he backs himself up against the wall, shifting back and shaking because he hasn't been that angry in a long time]
Laura: [She backs off just a little, just enough to give him some space, before moving closer and placing a hand on his shoulder, this time more comfort than anything else] He's not going to get to her. She's safe at the house with Jason and Mom.
Derek: For how long? [takes a deep breath, then laughs] Also, I hate being right sometimes.
Laura: For as long as it takes. We'll figure it out. [she takes a breath] We'll tell her when we go home tonight and we'll make a plan.
Derek: I think we need to go now. If Ennis is on us - someone's watching Scott. Probably the twins since they would blend in well into the school. Which means Kali is at the house, and Duke is waiting for mom to leave for her meeting.
Laura: [nods] You think you can get out of your shift?
Derek: Right now, I'll quit my job if I have to.
Laura: [nods a bit] Give me the keys, I'll start the car.
Derek: [reached into his pocket and tossed them to her, then went in to find the supervisor and tell them that a family emergency came up. He basically said his sister was attacked by a cougar in the woods and he had to go home and be with her, and could use the rest of the week off. After some talk, he got it and went out to where his car was and got in] Well, I still have a job for now. Go.
Laura: [nods as she peels away from the curb] How do I get to Fiona's place?
Derek: [gives directions, just looking up at the sky and the clouds as he focuses on his breathing still when moments of anger try to spike him back out]
Laura: [follows the directions easily, before peeling around the corner and pulling into a parking spot] Do you need help in there?
Derek: No, but we need to stop at Deaton’s to get Bob. Can you do that quickly? He's just a few blocks down. [ten minutes on his own he'd be okay. He hoped, and it would get them home faster]
Laura: [she nods in agreement] Will Bob be okay with me? He doesn't know me.
Derek: [shifts] No, probably not. Alright, give me ten. If I'm not back in ten, come upstairs to the top floor. [and he's going to go upstairs where he has her keys to get inside.]
Laura: [she nods and stays in the car to keep it running while he goes]
Derek: [gets upstairs and he's packing when there is the noise from the kitchen.]
Ennis: Here, puppy… [Ennis' voice echoed from the kitchen.]
Derek: [reached for his phone, and realized that he had left it in the car with his jacket and growled. He was trapped and he wouldn't be able to even call for his sister. His only saving grace was she was coming up in... eight minutes. He zipped up the bag of clothes and walked out of the bedroom, tossing the bag at the door.] You called? [he growled, cricking his neck as he got his game face.]
Ennis: [just grinned, already ready.] We almost gutted the bitch, you know. [Ennis taunted, shifting his feet.] But we figured she'd make a better messenger. This time.
Derek: [His anger already on a hair trigger, that was all it took for Derek to attack the alpha. In the next eight minutes, the fight went from the living room to the kitchen, and as Ennis took a massive swipe at Derek's chest, his head connected to the glass of the balcony and broke it. He took advantage of the open window to finally howl for his sister to come to his aid before the hand closed around his throat and lifted him into the air.]
Ennis: That's right, call for help. Too bad it'll still take them time to break in, and by then I'll have my own revenge.
Laura: [hears the howl and she was already getting out of the car anyway, because it was taking too long. Unfortunately for Ennis, however, she doesn't intend to take the human way in. She's up the fire escape, onto the balcony and through the broken window to hit the alpha in question hard and fast. Ennis is probably double her size, but she's got enough momentum at this point to at least knock him off balance.]
Ennis: [falls back, and that lets Derek drop to the floor and breathe again in short ragged breaths. He looked at his sister, then the bag at the door. They had to get it and go and he'll just cook for the damn dog until they get new food for him. His healing on his throat made his breathing back quickly and he was standing as Ennis climbed back to his feet.] Good, I was hoping for a bit of a fight with both of you.
Laura: It's just like Christmas. [And with that she's immediately going to slash at his chest not backing down unless he forces her too.]
Ennis: [is going to give it back, but Derek is back in the fight and flanking him, going to try and stab his claws into something vital until he gets backhanded across the entire apartment and into the front door, landing in a pile near the bag.]
Laura: [watches Derek fly across the room and she takes a step back, weighing her options carefully. She knows the balcony is behind her, so she takes another step back, snarling in his direction.] Well? Come get me.
Ennis: [Grinning, Ennis stalks towards her.] When I'm done with you, that pretty little doctor boyfriend of yours is not going to recognize you. [And he aims a clawed strike at her face]
Laura: [dodges the claws quickly ducking away and taking another step back towards the balcony.] Oh, I think he'll manage.
Derek: [is getting back up to his feet, looking at Laura to see if she has a plan before he jumps back in. He's holding his arm and it, along with his cheek, are slashed up bad from that last strike. He follows without a word, aiming for her gut with his foot.]
Laura: [Her eyes glance up briefly for a moment to gauge the location of the window behind her. When the foot lands in her gut she takes the force, pushing her back through window. But she reaches out to latch onto his leg, using her claws to keep him there before doing her best to twist that momentum and use that leg to pitch him over the balcony, even if he manages to take her with him.]
Derek: [sees the plan and rushes forward, managing to add to it a kick to Ennis' lower back to continue his momentum, and then reached out to grab his sister's leg to keep her from going over all the way as well.]
Laura: [She lets go when she feels Derek grab onto her, letting him yank her back from the edge of the balcony and falls back against her brother, watching as Ennis falls to the pavement beneath them.]
Ennis: [falls, lands, and makes a very Ennis shaped hole in the concrete. Thankfully it's a back alley. He gets up easy though, cracking his back and looked up at the betas, then just grinning and going to walk away for now. Message sent.]
Derek: [is going to collapse now on the balcony, the pain starting to break through the adreneline.]
Laura: Derek! Derek. [And with that she's just going to haul him to his feet and drag him to the car, booking it to Deaton's ASAP.]
Derek: [is still conscious enough to walk - and somehow grab the stupid bag - but his side is screaming in pain and once he's in the car he's just going to curl on his good side towards his sister and close his eyes, trying not to scream in pain from the deeply bleeding cuts.]
Laura: [she gets him to Deaton's, and bursts through the door, stopping just short of the mountain ash doorway] Dr. Deaton!
Deaton: [comes out from the back, takes one look at Derek and is opening the door] What happened?
Laura: Ennis.
Derek: [he's fighting to keep his consciousness at this point from the blood loss.] Mom...
Deaton: Quickly, get him on the table.
Laura: [does as she's told and Bob perks up from where he was resting in the back room, waiting for Derek to come pick him up. there's a soft whine at the smell of blood, but he stays where he is]
Deaton: I'll treat him. You call your mother and fill her in.
Laura: [nods and goes to do just that]
Derek: Gonna kill me. [he actually means Fiona in that statement, but as his back hits the table, the coolness of the metal just lets Derek finally slip away and pass out.]
Talia: [and we cut back to the house while Deaton does doctor-y things so I don't have to play with myself. Her eyes fall on Fiona as Laura relays what happened, and when she hangs up she raises an eyebrow] Derek and Laura were attacked by Ennis.
Fiona: [her face pales for a moment and she facepalms] Shit.
Jason: [had been in the doorway and his eyes widen] Do I need to go help him?
Talia: They're with Deaton. They're in good hands. I think Derek is the one who took the brunt of the damage. [Fiona swears again.] I think it's time you told us what happened last night.
Fiona: [she swallows hard, not sure what to say, before nodding] I was tracking the pack and I heard them mention that the twins were going to make a move on the house. So I got off the text to you but Kali caught my scent so I had to run. I had some mountain ash on me, so I used it, but Deucalion apparently didn't want to wait for me to leave on my own. He forced me out of the circle and Ennis and Kali attacked. In the process, I may have skewered Kali with Deucalion's walking stick. I don't think I got her heart, but she definitely wasn't getting up for a while. That's how I got away. If Ennis knows I was involved with Derek ...
Jason: If they've been plotting this for a while, they've probably been watching every single one of the Hales to learn your habits. Any formidable strike starts with knowing your opponent.
Talia: [she sighs softly] Ennis probably wasn't acting on Deucalion's orders. He was lashing out at your mate because you hurt his.
Fiona: I'm sorry. Talia, I'm so ...
Talia: This is not your fault. You were doing what you had to do to protect yourself.
Jason: It's the same reason the twins went after Cora first. That was Cora is the youngest, and would hurt the most.
Talia: All it's really doing is making me angry. [which is not a good thing. At all.]
Fiona: What can I do?
Talia: Right now? Stay here. I'm going to call Peter and have him be here when I go to check on Derek and Laura at Deaton's.
Jason: I can go pick Scott up at school. Stiles and Isaac may need to come too since the twins may take advantage of them being separated.
Talia: [takes a deep breath and nods] Maila will be there as well. I'll text her and tell her to get them and look for you.
Jason: Good. [goes to grab his jacket and car keys, knowing if any of them try to mess with him, they are going to get a surprise]
Fiona: [looks up at Talia] I'm not really good with doing nothing.
Talia: Unfortunately you're a target. [she's dialing her phone to call her brother] You'll be the safest here. [there's a pause] But if you have any mountain ash in your truck, I think we could use it once everyone's home.
Fiona: [nods] I can work with that.
Jason: Plus someone has to watch Cora. I'm sure you also have a gun somewhere. [shrugs his jacket on]
Peter: [answers] Kids are getting out of school early today?
Fiona: [she nods at that] Oh. I've got guns. [you don't want to know what's in the back of her truck, Jason]
Talia: Ennis attacked Derek and Laura. They're at Deaton's, I need you here.
Jason: And that really should not be as reassuring as it sounds. [and he's going to leave to get the kids]
Peter: I'll be right there, okay?
Talia: Thank you. [and there's more behind their words than whatever calm she tries to project because her children really need to stop being caught in the line of fire]
Fiona: [she's actually going to head out to her car to get those guns. It makes her feel useful and she probably needs to clean them]
Peter: [and again, it's a good thing he lives on the same swath of private property because he's there in minutes, entering the house and pulling his sister into a hug before even saying a word] What happened?
Talia: [sighs softly as she leans into him. He's probably the only one who gets to see her like this] When Fiona was escaping the pack last night, she did some damage to Kali. Ennis decided to take it out on Derek. Thankfully Laura was with him, or Ennis probably would have killed him.
Peter: [siblings, it was what they did. He just kept her close, letting her pull strength from him] But he's okay. Derek's a fighter, and he'll be fine. Angry, but fine. But we need to plan something, Talia. Duke isn't vying for territory, but for people. That's what his pack is, and you're the alpha so he wants you to join him, and he isn't big on no.
Talia: Why now? That's what I don't understand. It's been nearly ten years since he started forming that pack. Why is he coming for me now?
Peter: Maybe he's got something after him, and he needs more power. [he leans back and runs a hand along her cheek] You're a very powerful alpha, Talia. Our bloodline is full of power. And if you don't do it, he will kill you and make one of your kids take your place with him. But there's more. Scott doesn't fit into any of this. He's the key to something here.
Talia: [she exhales slowly before nodding] I need to talk to Deucalion. It's the only way we're going to get answers to any of this.
Peter: [sniffs the air] Someone here to stay with Cora?
Talia: Aside from Fiona, no. Right now, I'm just going to get Derek and Laura. Jason is going to pick up the kids and bring them here. Once everyone's here, I'll see if I can get Deucalion can come to a meeting.
Peter: And if he won't... we may need to involve the Argents, Talia. They will understand the lesser of two evils with their code to help us.
Talia: I'm not bringing Gerard anywhere near Scott. But I will talk to Chris if he promises to keep the crazier parts of his family out of it.
Peter: Chris was who I was thinking of anyway. But we can talk about this on the way to Deaton's.
Talia: I need you here. I don't know how long Jason will take to get back.
Peter: Yes, because sending you out alone is going to be a smart play?
Talia: I'm not leaving my daughter unprotected either.
Peter: Then we wait for Jason to come back. Derek and Laura will still be there.
Talia: [she sets her jaw, because no, she needed to get to her children now but she knows that Peter is right. So she takes a breath and nods] Fine.
Peter: This is why you have the heart, and I have the brains. We sometimes need to work together to make the right choices.
Talia: [exhales again before nodding] I know. [she reaches over and squeezes his hand] Thank you.
Peter: [squeezes back, then pulls her in for another hug] Always.
Talia: [she leans into the hug, taking the moment to lean on her brother]
Fiona: [comes in a few minutes later, with a few cases that she puts down on the living room table and starts flipping them open, revealing a few Berettas a sniper rifle and a bag with shotguns. She did say she had guns.]
Peter: [looks at the piles, eyes risen] That's an impressive collection there.
Fiona: [flashes him a smile] I like to be prepared.
Peter: Just don't let my daughter touch... any of those. You may end up with it missing.
Fiona: [gives him a bit of a salute, before going to clean the nearest gun, taking it apart with practiced ease]
Jason: [and 20 minutes later, Jason returns with a gaggle of teenagers]
Talia: [looks over at the sound and smiles slightly at the group of them] Run into any trouble?
Jason: Beyond the unanimous request to stop for lunch at the drive through? No.
Talia: Good. Peter and I are going to get Derek and Laura. [she looks over at the boys] She's upstairs, she's sleeping. I know I can't keep you out of there, but do your best to let her rest if you can.
Malia: [looks over at her dad, worried for a moment because her family is being attacked left and right and she doesn't like it, but she looks down after that and her attention is drawn to the armory that's sitting on the living room table.]
Stiles: We'll keep it down. [totally booking upstairs once Talia is gone]
Peter: [hugs his daughter] Don't worry, I'll be back and we'll talk. You protect all of them with Fiona and Jason, got it?
Malia: [nods in agreement, leaning into him a bit and giving him a hard squeeze, before pulling back and letting him go] C'mon. I'll show you where her room is. [And with that she'll take that gaggle of teenagers upstairs]
Peter: Come on, I'll drive. [and ff to Deatons?]
Talia: [Yep, they make their way in the door, and her eyes go right to Deaton, not looking at Derek for the simple fact that she might not be able to hold it together] How is he?
Deaton: He's lost a lot of blood, and as you know, wounds from alphas heal slower. I've given him something to keep him unconscious for a few hours. I wrapped his ribs and stitched up his arm, but his cheek is too delicate. His body is already healing the internal injuries but he's very lucky, Talia. I talked with Laura and compared to Cora, this is getting out of hand quickly. The next one may not be so lucky. [he looks at Peter, who's talking to Laura softly]
Talia: [she glances over at that point, taking another step towards her son and brushes her fingers against his forehead] I know this needs to stop. Which is why I was wondering if you might be able to reach out to Marion and see if you can set up a meeting. I'm not going to risk my children with a war.
Deaton: I could arrange that, if Deucalion is willing. It may be enlightening to know his purpose to all of this. I'm assuming that he is the one responsible for Scott's transformation as well?
Talia: That's what we believe. And we still don't know why.
Deaton: I would suggest that you go in even numbers then when attending. One of your children should be there to show you don't fear things happening to them. They know your children can be a weakness to exploit, so take that assumption away.
Talia: [nods. She knows he's right, but there's a large part of her that doesn't want her anywhere near that meeting. Especially not after what's happened] Can I take him home?
Deaton: Yes, plus there is a very worried dog over there wanting to go back to his owner. Derek was supposed to pick him up on his way home. Give me a moment and I'll get you a bag of food.
Derek: [not stirring, but finally picks up his mom's scent through the morphine and his head moves just a fraction against her fingers]
Peter: [looks over at the huge dog and sighs] Good thing we brought the mini van.
Bob: [looks over at Peter leaning in to sniff for a moment, before giving a low rumbling growl. Don't get on his bad side, Peter.]
Talia: [nods, but keeping her attention on Derek.] Peter, help me. I'd like to try and get him out of here without waking him.
Laura: [nods as she gets up] I'll sit in the back with him. Make sure he doesn't jostle too much. [she extends a hand, snapping her fingers slightly and Bob snaps to attention, getting to his feet to join her. They've had time. They've bonded.]
Peter: [he's tempted to flash his eyes at the dog, but Laura's already on it. So he goes to lift his nephew, huffing a moment] Remind me to tell him he needs to stop eating so much junk food. Boy weighs a ton.
Deaton: [meets them at the van with the bag of food and a bag with the things Fiona left with him] I'll let you know what I hear, Talia. Until then, I'd suggest you keep everyone where you can see them. Scott included.
Talia: [she nods] We brought them all to the house before we got here. I'll have Scott talk to his mom about staying at the house for tonight at least. Thank you, Alan.
Laura: [will take the dog stuff, and Bob follows her dutifully out the door to the car]
Deaton: [nods, hands in pockets as he watches Peter maneuver Derek into the back seat gently, buckling him in just in case before moving to the driver's seat.]
Talia: [Laura climbs in the back with her brother and Bob follows her, and Talia slides into the front passenger's seat and off they go back to the house]
Peter: [And when they get there, Peter's got Derek in his arms, being carefully of the stitched and bandaged side and just goes straight upstairs with his nephew to get him to bed]
Stiles: [being in the hallway] Holy crap. What is this, the new ER?
Scott and Isaac: [heads poking out of the door]
Fiona: [is close on his heels and Bob is close on hers, not really leaving Fiona's side until he's certain everything is safe. Fiona stops when she sees Stiles and the boys and points] Go to Cora. [Bob glances and looks unsure about this decision, but Fiona stays firm about it] Go! [Bob sighs dutifully, before trotting off past Stiles, Isaac and Scott and hopping up on the space on he bed next to Cora. After that, Fiona follows Peter inside the room, watching as Derek is carefully lowered into the bed] I've got him.
Peter: He's going to be out for a few hours. Deaton gave him something for the pain, but drugs slow down the healing so he'll have to come out of it. [he pointed at the gauze roll that covered the right side of Derek's face, and was bound gingerly with tape] Be careful of his face.
Stiles: [Scott and Isaac disappear into the room as the big dog enters. Stiles, ever the curious] So what, did the twins go after him too? [trying to peek in]
Peter: Stiles, either go to Cora's room, or I will find you a room to be in that is not this one.
Stiles: Got it. [and he exits back to Cora's room]
Fiona: [takes in the instructions, and nods. She can do this] Got it. I'll stay away from the face. [and until he comes out of it she'll just sit with him and wait for him to wake up. It's better than sitting downstairs with her guilt anyway. At least here she can sit with her guilt and know exactly how bad it is]
Derek: [and probably around dinnertime is when the drugs start to wear off and his breathing picks up, He starts to move his jaw and then gives a strangled cry of pain as the wounds stretch]
Fiona: [is immediately at his side, hushing him softly as her hand finds his] Easy, easy. You're okay, Ennis took a chunk out of your face. You might not want to move your jaw too much until it heals. Which means I get to do most of the talking. You can just make faces at me with your eyebrows.
Derek: [she'll hear his breathing switch from his mouth to his nose, but he's panting from the pain. His eyes open, then shut at the light and he whimpers. His hand all but clenches hers, and she may be able to tell he's actually scared along with the pain]
Fiona: [she brings his hand up, pressing her lips to the back of it gently, keeping her voice calm] It's okay. You're home, you're safe. The whole pack's here. Deaton had to give you some drugs to help with the pain.
Derek: [manages to get a few words out with the whimpers, trying not to move his jaw] Hurt. Too much.
Fiona: [her eyes widen a bit, trying to figure out what to do, but just loosens her grip just slightly so that he can squeeze her hand tighter if she needs to] Want me to get your mom? Or Peter? [she can't take his pain. The downside of not being a wolf]
Peter: [is in the doorway] We heard the scream, actually. Jason gave me this for him. [holds up syringe] He gets to choose, drugs or a few minutes of relief the old fashion way.
Fiona: [she glances back to him, brushing her hand against his forehead] Do you want the drugs? [she figures yes or no questions are easier to answer]
Derek: [he knows the price. Drugs slow his healing. But it was too much pain] Yes.
Peter: [walks over onto Derek's good side and rubs his arm to find a vein, giving it to him quickly. ten seconds later, it's an obvious change as Derek's breathing slows back down, knocking him out again. Peter sighs and runs his fingers in Derek's hair] He's never been hurt this bad before. A broken leg I think is the worst he's had. I've seen a few scraps in my time, but nothing like this. They're not prepared to handle it.
Fiona: [keeps Derek's hand tightly in hers, even when it goes slack as he passes out again, brushing her thumb against the back of his hand] This is my fault.
Peter: Yes, from what Talia told me, it's linked to your actions. But that doesn't mean that you meant for it to happen, and that is what's important to remember.
Fiona: [she snorts slightly] Doesn't make it less my fault. It happened in my place too. [because she asked him to stop. It was stupid, he should have just come right back to the house. Bob would have been fine with Deaton]
Peter: No, he was at the coffee shop too. He knew Derek's schedule. Laura said he knew a lot of intimate details about both of you.
Fiona: [her eyes close a bit at that] They were watching him.
Peter: Pretty much. Though Ennis has a past with Derek we don't talk about. [he looks at his nephew and there was a bit of sadness in his eyes]
Fiona: [she feels a little sick, to be honest, because what she and Derek do isn't for other people, but she pushes that aside for now] So I just made things worse?
Peter: No, you just gave him a reason to collect a debt. [he sighed] I assume by now you know his true eye color. Has he told you how he got it?
Fiona: [she shakes her head] It doesn't really matter to me - I know him well enough to know it isn't because he's a psychopath.
Peter: [chuckles] No, he's far from that. In fact, he earned those out of love more than anything else. That and foolish teenage notions I should have stepped in and tried to stop.
Fiona: [sighs softly as she turns her eyes back to Derek's hands] But Ennis was involved.
Peter: Derek's father had just left, and he was acting out at school. He was only fifteen at the time. And in one of his “games,” a girl stood up to him and called him out. Her name was Paige, and he promptly started to spend time with her.
Fiona: [she smirks a bit] Sounds like your typical teenage romance.
Peter: It was. But his parents split and he lost his father, and somewhere in his mind he felt that it was because his father was human, and humans tend to leave. It didn't help that my fiancee left when she learned of me, but it was already too late and she was pregnant. So in his head, he felt to keep her, he needed to change her.
Fiona: [her lips purse slightly as she listens] I'm guessing Ennis was the alpha?
Peter: He knew his mother wouldn't do it, and it was before Ennis killed his pack. To have a favor owed from the Hale pack was a big thing in those days. [Peter looks at Derek] But the bite didn't take.
Fiona: [she nods a bit] And he ended it instead of making her suffer.
Peter: He did, and Talia helped him heal from it, but we've watched how it made him guarded, and drove him to keep his wolf side hidden as much as he could. While Laura and Cora fostered theirs, he hid in the world of humans but kept his heart out of reach from anyone.
Fiona: [she's quiet for a long time, just sitting with her hand in Derek's and keeping that contact] I told him he didn't have to hide from me. I wasn't sure how much he listened.
Peter: You know what he really is, Fiona. You're the first girl he's brought back to the house, and the first that he's ever shown his eyes to that isn't the family. He even hid his eyes from Cora until recently, and as far as I know, Malia doesn't know. They are his secret that he, myself and Talia promised him we wouldn't reveal because it makes him the one pack member who faces danger just from that alone and hunters who don't care to ask questions.
Fiona: [she exhales slowly. She isn't her being at the house is that big a deal, as she was at the house before she and him ever started doing what they were doing, but she understands the significance to Peter] If this turns into a war, he can't hold back.
Peter: He needs training. It's been too long since he's actually been in a fight. I'm glad to see he's not hurt worse, but he's nowhere near what the rest of us are anymore beyond basic instincts.
Fiona: [she nods] So he's back to basics. Once he's recovered, anyway.
Peter: He'll heal faster if his pack is close. Cora is healing faster now with her friends visiting - which is probably the only reason Talia hasn't tossed the trio out of her room.
Fiona: [smirks a bit] Also probably because she doesn't want them near the arsenal I left downstairs.
Peter: Yeah, I was actually told to also sit her while you went down to pack up the guns and move them somewhere safer. [smirks]
Fiona: [she laughs a bit before glancing back to Derek. She doesn't want to leave him, but she knows that with Peter he's in good hands. She reluctantly slips her hand out of his and nods] I'll be right back. [it's more for Derek's benefit than for Peter, if he can even hear her]
Peter: [watches her go, then shakes his head] You better not screw this one up, nephew. I actually like her.
Fiona: [and downstairs she goes, going right to work with packing those weapons back up again and flipping the cases closed]
Isaac: [was in the kitchen and comes out holding a glass of water] So I take it from the guns you're not like the rest of them?
Fiona: [looks up and shakes her head] Nope. I'm human.
Isaac: [she gets a small smile out of him] Is Derek going to be okay? He was... friends with my brother. When they were my age.
Fiona: [glances up to the stairs and nods] I think so. He just needs time to heal.
Isaac: [nods] Do you need some help? You look like you hurt your arm...
Fiona: [she shakes her head] I've got it. I think I'm supposed to be keeping the minors away from the weapons anyway.
Isaac: Are they hard to learn? To use them?
Fiona: They take a little practice, but hard? No. It's just a matter of making sure you know the safety rules. [the fact that they're easy to use and people aren't smart about their weapons safety is why so many people get shot in the foot]
Isaac: You keep the safety on, store bullets separate from the weapon, and only shoot if you're ready to take responsibility for the actions of taking a life. [Cam was a Marine. Isaac got a basic lesson]
Fiona: [she considers that before nodding] Basically. But when it comes to werewolves or any other kind of shifter, you also want to make sure your aim is good and you're a fast shot. Most of the time a bullet won't kill 'em but disabling them quickly can mean the difference between living and dying.
Isaac: Do you think you could teach me?
Fiona: [eyebrow raise] Worried?
Isaac: I'm tired of being afraid.
Fiona: And you think a gun is going to make you not? [she puts down the case as she turns to face him] Because a gun isn't going to make you less afraid. It's just going to give you the ability to do more damage when you are.
Isaac: [looks down] Oh.
Fiona: [she takes a breath before taking a step closer] Look, I know about your dad. I was one of the ones who helped make sure the cops got him that night. And I know that coming right into all of this - [she gestures to the house with her hands, but she means that more generally as in the supernatural] - is more than a little terrifying. I can teach you to protect yourself if that's what you want, but you gotta realize that being less afraid is in here. [she stops and pokes her finger at his chest gently] Not from anything I could put in your hands.
Isaac: [he didn't know the first part - that she helped - and looks up at her at that. But he listened, then nodded] I've always been scared to talk or step out of line. I'm talking to someone about that now, but when that thing was coming at us, I didn't even know what to do. And I like Scott and Cora. I want to stay friends, but if this is going to get worse, I don't want to feel like I'm not going to be able to keep myself from getting hurt too.
Fiona: [she nods. Fair enough] Okay. But we're not starting with the guns. Most of the time if a wolf is coming at you it's going to be close combat anyway. You take karate when you were a kid?
Isaac: [shakes his head] But I play lacrosse. That gets pretty violent sometimes.
Fiona: [she shrugs.] That seems like a good enough place to start. When this place is less on lock down, we'll see what we can schedule.
Isaac: [small smile again] Thank you. I should, um, get back upstairs now.
Fiona: [nods] Yeah, go ahead. I'll talk to you about it later.
Isaac: [and he's off back upstairs to Cora's room]
Peter: [goes to the doorway] Jason, I need your help up here...
Fiona: [yep those cases are getting stashed under the couch as Fiona heads right back to up the stairs to see what's going on]
Jason: [is already stepping into the room.] What?
Peter: His temperature spiked and well, that. [points at the pool of black blood on the floor that is flecking Derek's lips]
Jason: [wrinkles his nose, going to sit on the bed and pulls out a pen light to look at Derek's eyes] His body is trying to heal, but I think he's getting an infection. [he goes to take off the bandage on Derek's cheek, then looks at Fiona] You may want to step out for a minute...
Fiona: [she sets her jaw, before shaking her head. She's probably seen worse. She does hang back in the doorway, though, so she's out of the way] I'm good.
Jason: [nods, then goes and pulls it off. The scratches are infected, swelling up and making his entire cheek red and black.] Okay, Someone needs to get my kit, and I need a pot of hot water and some rags to wash these out with. And someone to control his pain because that shot is not going to last long if his body is burning through it to heal this.
Fiona: [she can do the first part] Where's the kit?
Jason: Laura's room.
Fiona: I'll be right back. [and with that she'll dash off to grab the kit from the room and bring that back first, before heading downstairs to get the hot water]
Peter: [is settling himself in at Derek's side, taking his nephew's hand and is ready when the drugs wear off]
Jason: [grabs Derek's end table and moves it to where he can use it to store his tools. He sets up a quick stitch tray on a clean towel and finds thread] He's not going to like stitches there but they're too deep to leave open.
Fiona: [it takes her a minute to track down a container and the rags, but not long she's back with the hot water, placing it down on the end table with the kit] Anything else?
Jason: See if we can get one of the kids to clean up the floor. And then I'm going to need you to hold his head steady for me.
Fiona: [nods before heading down to Cora's bedroom, poking her head in the door. She looks over each of them for a moment, before turning to Malia and Scott] One of you. I need your help.
Malia: Derek?
Fiona: [nods once]
Malia: [looks to Scott. She could go either way]
Scott: [looks at Malia] If you want to help him, I mean he's your uncle and all.
Stiles: I'll help? [no clue what's being asked of him]
Malia: [nods before getting to her feet] I'll go. [there's a beat before she glances back to him] And he's my cousin. Let's not give him any more power than he already has. [joke? Poorly timed one? Probably. Doesn't matter, she's following Fiona back to the room]
Fiona: [keeping her voice low] Jason thinks he has an infection. We need you to clear the floor and be an extra set of hands. Are you good with that?
Malia: [nods, and she knows enough about werewolves to know "infection is never a good thing, but it still doesn't really prepare her for when she walks in the door. Still, she keeps it together and goes to work cleaning up the room as best she can, which basically equates to shoving everything in Derek's closet.]
Fiona: [moves to the bed, sitting so that she's up against the headboard, and moving one hand to the good side of his face] How do you want me to do this?
Jason: [Looks, thinking for a moment.] Maybe make a cradle for his head with your legs? That way you can use your knees as well to immobilize him. Maybe your scent being strong there will help keep him calm too?
Fiona: [nods and does as instructed, settling behind him and keeping that one hand against his face, brushing against his cheek gently in a gesture she hopes is soothing]
Jason: [has most of the blood washed out and reaches for the alcohol to disinfect] Alright, folks, if he's waking up, this is going to be when.
Derek: [oh yeah, the second the alcohol hits the scratches he's screaming, his eyes blue and fangs and claws out]
Peter: [ow those are claws in his hands] Derek, stop. [and he's trying to pull the pain.]
Fiona: [her knees tighten against his chest to keep him still, trying to hold him as firmly as possible when dealing with a bucking werewolf] Derek, easy. You're okay. It's just a little alcohol.
Derek: [his eyes flick from Jason to Peter and to Fiona and he stops fighting, fangs and claws retracting as he shakes from the pain.]
Peter: [switches hands because OW] you're lucky I'm already a wolf, nephew. [and healing already but still]
Jason: Derek, right now I need you to do two things. I need you to hold still, and I need you to keep your mouth shut. It's going to hurt, but I need to stop the infection. Can you do that?
Derek: [nods slowly]
Fiona: [resumes the brush of her thumb against the side of his cheek, relaxing her knees a bit to not make him feel like he's quite as trapped.]
Malia: [looks up from dumping a bunch of stuff covered in black blood in the trash] Do you need me to do anything?
Jason: [hands her a clean cloth] Can you clean up your dad's hand?
Derek: [closes his eyes, resting against her legs a moment]
Malia: [nods and makes her way over, taking Peter's free hand gently in hers as she cleans it off]
Fiona: [just stays where she is, leaning back a bit so that Jason can work]
Peter: [smiles and squeezes her hand] I should teach you how to do this. It's a very special gift to help your pack, but it does hurt.
Derek: [winces and keeps his jaw shut tight as Jason works to clean each of the four claw lines on his face, stifling his cries into Fiona's leg.]
Malia: [nods a bit] Later. [not now, when he needs to focus on helping Derek]
Fiona: [just keeps calm where she is, waiting patiently for Jason to finish]
Peter: [kisses his daughter's cheek, then goes back to focusing on helping Derek]
Jason: [finishes the cleaning] Starting stitches. Be very still and relax your jaw now.
Derek: [does so, and Fiona and Peter would feel Derek just the first few times the needle goes into his flesh before he's used to it.]
Malia: [places the rag to the side with the others that will probably be thrown out rather than cleaned, and hangs back, fidgeting with some stuff on Derek's dresser until she's given another order. She doesn't want to watch, but she doesn't want to just leave or interrupt either.]
Jason: [is fast at this part, but the last one that ends near Derek's eye is the tricky one. He takes his time, and then he cleans the skin and reaches for a gauze roll] Now you're going to hate this, but you need to keep your jaw immobile until these heal. [and he proceeds to start wrapping the roll under Derek's jaw and over the top of his head, effectively shutting the wolf's mouth]
Fiona: [winces a bit, shifting her legs so that he can get a better angle to make sure it's secure] How's he going to eat? We don't really have an IV or anything.
Jason: Soup. There's enough play for a straw, and it's only for a day or two until it heals. With the infection cleaned out, he should start healing again.
Peter: [separates from Derek for a bit, flexing his hand as he looks over] You look absolutely pathetic, Derek. Which is better than looking like a victim of a velociraptor attack.
Fiona: [laughs a bit as she lets Derek settle against her again, her hand wandering down to rest against his chest] I'll get you a dry erase board or something so you can talk.
Derek: [is whimpering, but manages to weakly raise his good arm and flip off his uncle]
Peter: [laughs]
Fiona: [laughs as well, but stays where she is, just relaxing her position so it's more like she's staying close than trying to hold him down]
Malia: [shifts anxiously at the door] Do you guys still need me, or can I go back to Cora?
Jason: [chuckling] No, you're good Malia. Thank you.
Peter: [bats Derek's hand away] Seriously, you able to handle the pain now?
Derek: [nods, his hand snaking up to rest on Fiona's knee]
Jason: I better get an amazing recommendation from this family for my new job.
Malia: [nods and disappears back through the door again to head down the hall]
Fiona: [moves her hand to cover his as she speaks] If they don't, I will. And at least I'll still have the stitches to prove it.
Jason: [ gets up and rolls up the towel of tools he needs to disinfect] Alright, I'll check on you in a bit. Just rest.
Peter: Same here. And when you're healed, I'm going to start kicking your ass again because you're going back into training.
Derek: [puppy look and whimpers]
Fiona: [her thumb brushes over his knuckles gently] I'll make sure he rests. [they can have a semi-conversation about training once everyone is gone]
Jason: [looks at Fiona] You should still be resting too.
Peter: [looks at the two of them and smiles a bit to himself and goes to close the door.] If you need something, shout. I'll hear you. [and the door is closed 3/4 of the way]
Fiona: [she nods] I will. There will be quality resting going on. [that's a lie, she's probably going to fall asleep sitting just like she is unless Derek makes her move, but she will tell the doctor that all the same]
Derek: [just looks up at her, sighing through his nose and lacing his fingers with hers. Still pitiful looking like that]
Fiona: [smiles softly, before leaning forward and pressing a kiss to his forehead] You'll be okay. It's just a couple days.
Derek: [his lips moved like he wanted to talk, and then another frustrated smile. Deciding to leave his questions about Ennis and the alphas until later, he pushed himself a bit up more into her arms, groaning at the pain and stiffness in his ribs that were healing]
Fiona: Hang on. [she shifts to where she stashed her overnight bag and pulls out a small notepad that she uses mostly for miscellaneous notes for her cases. As he settles against her, she pulls the pen out of the spirals and flips it open, finding a blank page and handing it to him] Better?
Derek: [nods, then starts to write. His arm isn't moving much but his handwriting is mostly legible] Ennis knew about us.
Fiona: [she nods, her arms sliding around him gently] I know. Peter told me.
Derek: He knew your drink.
Fiona: [her jaw sets a bit] Deucalion must have had him watching you for a while.
Derek: [writing] I'm sorry. I wasn't looking for a fight.
Fiona: [sighs softly] No. Ennis was. I may have done serious damage to Kali when I was making my escape last night.
Derek: [his eyes just look at her, confused.]
Fiona: [gestures to the bruises on her face] All of this was Kali and Ennis. In order to get away I skewered Kali on Deucalion's walking stick - probably hit some vital organs. I'm guessing Ennis didn't take it well but since I was holed up here, instead of coming after me, he came after you. [she takes a break, the apology sitting all over her face] It's my fault. I'm sorry.
Derek: [his eyebrows tell her that he understands. He doesn't write out that it's not her fault, but instead reaches up with his hand not holding hers and runs his fingers lightly over her cheek. No blame there at all, just complete understanding.]
Fiona: [she appreciates him not blaming her, even if she's still going to blame herself for a while. She turns and presses a kiss to his palm, keeping his hand there for a moment] I'm just glad you'll be okay.
Derek: [he gives a huff, amused, but winces as he tries to smile because owww stitches]
Fiona: [smirks a bit] Guess I should stop cracking jokes for a while, huh?
Derek: [pained look as he nods, even if it's not stopping the involuntary smile and he just turns to hide his face in her leg again as his shoulders shake in laughter]
Fiona: [she grins a bit, before leaning back to give him some space] I'll do it. But only because I would like to really kiss you in a serious capacity in the not-to-distant future.
Derek: [and his hands leaves her cheek to give her a thumbs up sign because he appreciates that]
Fiona: Good. [one had moves to brush against the back of his head lightly] But Jason's right. You should rest if you can.
Derek: [nods, then pulls on her shirt a bit to get her to slide down a bit more with him as he looks up at her, all puppy eyes]
Fiona: [nods, shifting a bit so that she can settle into the spot next to him, but still not accidentally jostle his ribs] Don't worry. I wasn't going anywhere.
Derek: [he puts the notepad on the end table and goes to lay on his back, his good arm wrapping around her to keep her tucked into his side]
Fiona: [shifts as she curls into him, letting her head rest against his shoulder] Good?
Derek: [nods, his fingers just resting on her hip. He closes his eyes, and he'll eventually fall asleep if she doesn't talk to him]
Fiona: [she won't, she'll just let him drift back off again, and although it'll take her a little bit longer, eventually she'll drift off as well]
