superman } { of first days of school and flying lessons

Kara: [it's the night before her first day at school and she is freeeeeeeeaking out. when Clark suggests that she'll be fine because Stiles will introduce her, there's a slightly dubious look. just the look. no words either way]

Clark: [is sitting outside with her on a bench near a fire pit] Listen, he's eccentric, but he knows the school and who everyone is. And Cora's going to be there two. Between them, you're covered.

Kara: Yeah, I know. But none of that guarantees if any of them are actually going to like me.

Clark: True, that is up to you. But you're a good person, and friendly. I think you're going to have an easy time making friends.

Kara: I hope so. [she reaches gently for Streaky as he hops up onto the bed with her, her way of practicing with her strength after Talia conveyed to the sheriff how they used Cora to teach Derek]

Clark: You know, my first day of school, I was so worried about if I was going to break something. I didn't even think about if the other kids would like me or not. I actually stayed hidden in the back of the classroom most of the time.

Kara: Oh, I think I've got the strength thing down. [she's probably going to break a desk] I just ... don't want to seem like an alien, you know? You at least grew up here, but there are ... so many things that I could miss.

Clark: Well, you're going to be a new kid, so a lot of people are going to be interested in you for the first few days. You're someone new, and they are going to want to see who you are. And there will be some jerks who will pick on you because of that. Don't let them get you upset though.

Kara: I won't. [and she'll try not to break their noses too]

Clark: Just be yourself. If they don't like it, then that is on them, not you. Okay?

Kara: Okay. [strokes her hand over her cat's back] I hope I do well in class too. It was ... a lot of catch up over the summer.

Clark: [chuckles] You'll do fine. Hey, I don't have class tomorrow afternoon. Want me to pick you up after school?

Kara: Sure! [a beat] If I make it through the day without breaking anything, can we get ice cream? [she ... really, really loves ice cream]

Clark: [laughs] Sure.

Kara: Okay. [pleased cousin is pleased]

Clark: Anything else you want to go over before school tomorrow?

Kara: [she shakes her head] I'd just rather ... try not to think about it for a little while.

Clark: Alright. So what do you want to do?

Kara: [she shrugs, before smiling slightly] Can we try flying again? [she doesn't get very far off the ground - it's more like controlled jumping - but it's the most thrilling thing in the world]

Clark: Alright. We have some time left before dinner. Race you to the preserve?

Kara: [grins and she zips out the door as fast as she can]

Clark: [and he smiles, gives her a few seconds more, and then chases after her]

Kara: [and she'll skid to a stop when she hits a clearing in the preserve, stumbling a bit as she kills her momentum]

Clark: [and he will stop next to her, years of practice making him nice and balanced] Good job. I think that's your fastest time yet.

Kara: [grins] I'm getting faster, then?

Clark: Yeah. A couple more weeks and you'll be as fast as I am.

Kara: [that makes her beam because she laps up that praise always]

Clark: [and he is nothing but optimistic and encouraging] Alright, so show me how good you're getting on flying.

Kara: [and she takes a deep breath and pushes up from the ground, jumping a good five feet into the air, before doing her best to hold it. She hovers, just for a few moments, before her will gives out and she drops to the ground with a huff]

Clark: [and he will catch her, because that is what he does] Good try. Just remember to keep pushing against the air molecules.

Kara: Is that what I'm pushing against?

Clark: Well, not at first. That's the ground. But once you're away, it's the air. You're almost gliding along it when you fly, and push when you need to speed up.

Kara: It feels so strange to push up against something so tiny.

Clark: I know. That's why it takes awhile to learn. I only figured it out last year.

Kara: [huffs a bit, but in a good natured way] It's the best part though.

Clark: [laughs] I didn't know I could do it. But yeah, it's pretty fun.

Kara: [sighs as she goes to sit on one of the logs nearby] Everything is so pretty and green here. It must look amazing from above.

Clark: I can take you up.

Kara: Yeah?

Clark: Yeah. I haven't dropped anyone in weeks now. [smiles]

Kara: [she laughs] Let's go!

Clark: [and he will pick her up, holding her in his arms] Now don't let go. [and he will push off and up they go!]

Kara: [and she's thrilled and just holds on tight, a bright smile on her face as she takes in everything below]

Clark: [he only goes high enough that no one in town would be able to see him, but they have a great view and the sky is clear] This good?

Kara: [she nods her head eagerly, tilting her head back so she can feel the wind on her face]

Clark: [and he watches her and just smiles at her enjoyment] When you can get up to do this, we can have races above the clouds where people can't see us.

Kara: I'm totally going to win. Just calling that now.

Clark: [laughs] We'll see.

Kara: It's true. You may be faster at first, but I'm way more aerodynamic. At least according to the physics you taught me.

Clark: I guess then I'll have to make a flying outfit that evens us out.

Kara: Oh really?

Clark: Really. I mean, we should probably make sure people can't recognize us anyway.

Kara: Right. Because we're not supposed to be able to do this.

Clark: Exactly.

Kara: [sighs] I don't think I'm going to be very good at the lying part.

Clark: Most people won't believe you if you tell them, so you're not really lying and instead just not telling them in the first place.

Kara: But what if kids ask me where I went to school before?

Clark: Well, you went to school this summer at home, so technically you were home schooled, and that's not a lie.

Kara: Okay. I guess that works.

Clark: Just don't make it harder on yourself. You can tell people that you're uncomfortable talking about things.

Kara: Okay. I just don't want to make it seem like I'm hiding something.

Clark: You're going to be fine, I promise. And you have both Stiles and Cora to have your back.

Kara: And you ... indirectly, but still.

Clark: I can just swoop in and save you.

Kara: Good. [and she smiles softly before leaning into his shoulder]

Clark: [and he will go and find a tree to land in so they can look up at the sky for a bit]

Kara: [tucks herself against the trunk, before looking up at the sky again] You know, Earth isn't a bad planet to crash on. And I've been to twelve different planets.

Clark: Twelve? Seriously?

Kara: [nods] My mom would take me on diplomatic trips sometimes.

Clark: So you've seen other planets. What were they like?

Kara: Well, Daxam was - [she makes a bleh faces] - they were all jerks. But the rest of them were really lovely. [the narration doesn't remember the names of some of them, so she'll babble about some of them here]

Clark: [and he is going to listen with rapt attention, asking questions when appropriate]

Kara: [she doesn't have all the answers for some of them, but she loves talking about things where she isn't unsure of the answers]

Clark: [and he loves learning about the worlds he should have lived on, the life he could have had]

Kara: [talking about Krypton makes her sad, though, because she still misses her home so much]

Clark: [he knows, so he only asks when she wants to tell him things]

Kara: [but eventually the sun will start to get low and she'll sigh] We should probably get back.

Clark: I guess so. [and he will gather her into his arms and hop down]

Kara: [and he will take her back to the Stilinski house and she'll give him a smile when she reaches the porch] Thanks for distracting me today.

Clark: You're welcome. Now just remember that tomorrow is just another day, and be yourself. And don't forget your glasses.

Kara: I won't. Night, Clark.

Clark: Night.

Kara: [and she'll head back inside to hang out with Stiles before bed]
