potus } { of weddings and speeches
Allison: [and there is cheers and clapping and so many people due to the deal they struck with her mother and Peter, but Allison doesn't care. They're married, they can't take it back, and they have two weeks in a very secluded mountain coming up and right now, she just wants to dance with her husband. So the song starts and she lets him pull her closer, resting a hand on his shoulder gently] Hi.
Derek: Hi. [and he will smile at her. He's exhausted, awake pretty much on joy and caffeine at this point] Fancy meeting you here.
Allison: [same, and she may need to shove some food in her face soon] How're you doing so far?
Derek: Best day of my life, and I can't wait to end it and go to bed. [chuckles]
Allison: [she laughs] Well, just think of the two weeks in the Catskills where no one will bother us ever.
Derek: Mmm, yes. Snuggling in bed, keeping each other nice and warm.
Allison: [she nods] Only leaving the cabin if we absolutely have to.
Derek: Hopefully it's well stocked.
Allison: Lydia promised she was taking care of it.
Derek: Good.
Allison: So you just have to make it through dinner and speeches and dancing, and a plane ride and we'll be there. [there's a pause as he spins her] ... That is way too many things.
Derek: We really should have planned a "collapse in a pile at a hotel the night before leaving for the plane" stage in this plan.
Allison: We can sleep on the plane?
Derek: I just may. Normally I can't.
Allison: I have faith in you.
Derek: Will you hold my hand? [smirks]
Allison: You pretty much just signed up for me holding your hand for the rest if your life.
Derek: I think I can live with that. [leans in and kisses her]
Allison: [grins as she kisses him back] Good.
Derek: If we get tired enough, maybe we could sneak out the back.
Allison: Do you think your security detail will help with this dress? I'm kind of a giant neon sign in a party like this.
Derek: If anyone is taking that dress off you, it's going to be me, not my security detail.
Allison: [she laughs] I meant helping me manage the train in our escape.
Derek: Of course. It's not detachable?
Allison: Nope. It's just very long and dramatic.
Derek: We'll figure something out then with it. Use it as an escape rope.
Allison: This dress was three thousand dollars.
Derek: Yes, and it was only for a single night.
Allison: That doesn't mean I want to use it as a very expensive rope.
Derek: [laughs] Ok, we'll spare the dress. For now.
Allison: Good. [and as the song comes to an end, she leans in to kiss him again] In case I don't see you for a while, I love you.
Derek: I love you too.
Allison: [and the dj will move on to the father/daughter mother/son dances]
Chris: [he's not crying, you're crying]
Allison: [awww, Dad, you were doing so well]
Chris: [you're his baby girl] You look so beautiful.
Allison: Thanks, Dad. Thank you for not shooting him.
Chris: If he hadn't shown up, I would have.
Allison: [she laughs] There was a doubt he would?
Chris: Even Marines get cold feet.
Allison: Well, I didn't. He's been through way too much with Grandpa to run out on me now.
Chris: Now your Grandpa, on the other hand, I think, is packing. Just in case.
Allison: [she shakes her head] There's way too much security in here. He's not going to martyr himself over this.
Chris: No, but he's too stubborn to change his ways.
Allison: Oh, believe me, I know.
Chris: But don't think I'm not going to give that boy hell every time I see him.
Allison: I think he might worry you were some kind of clone if you didn't.
Chris: Just promise me you two aren't going to make me a grandfather too soon.
Allison: We haven't really talked about it? But you have at least a month to not worry about it.
Chris: Good. You should take your time and enjoy being married for a bit before you get around to that
Allison: We will try.
Chris: [and he will smile] I'm just so proud of you.
Allison: For getting married?
Chris: For getting what you wanted, and not letting anyone stand in your way.
Allison: It helped that I had someone willing to do it with me. [she glances over to find Derek who's probably chatting with someone] We did it together. Partners.
Chris: You two are good for each other.
Allison: I think so too.
Chris: [as the song winds down, he will lean in to kiss her cheek] I love you so much, baby.
Allison: [leans in to the hug] I love you too, Daddy.
Chris: [and when the song is done, he will lead her off the floor back towards her table]
Derek: [Because he will be leading Talia onto the floor.]
Talia: [and she'll let him lead, because it's his wedding]
Derek: [thanks mom. He hasn't practiced dancing backwards and in heels in awhile]
Talia: [she's here to help] The ceremony was beautiful.
Derek: Is it weird that it was all a blur to me? I mean, I remember things, but just... it was a lot of things all at once.
Talia: Well, the ceremony isn't really for you, it's for the people watching. But I'm sure you'll be able to watch it back when the video's done.
Derek: With the five videographers, I would hope so. [laughs] Did you have a good time?
Talia: I did. [her hand comes up to brush against the side of his face] I'm just glad you're happy.
Derek: I am. I don't think I've ever been happier.
Talia: Good. That's how it should feel.
Derek: [smiles] So I will try to not cause a scandal on my honeymoon.
Talia: I hope so, since you're gong to the middle of nowhere.
Derek: Yeah, but drones can get into the middle of nowhere. [he's military and thinks strategy]
Talia: Well, don't do anything where a drone can see it, and you should be fine.
Derek: Like I said, I'll try.
Talia: I would appreciate it. Especially because if it's too scandalous, one of the Argent men might still shoot you.
Derek: I will keep my pants on at least.
Talia: [sigh]
Derek: You know you love me.
Talia: I do, but you're going to make me go gray. I hope you realize that. More so than my job already does.
Derek: I thought that was Laura's job?
Talia: Oh, Laura has some of it too. Every time I have to approve a new secret service agent for her security detail, though there have been slightly less of those as of late.
Derek: I know, especially with one of them being the receiving of some interesting looks.
Talia: Which one?
Derek: [nods to where Parrish is standing not that far away from Laura's table]
Talia: [waits until they turn so that it doesn't look like she's turning just to look] Jordan Parrish, mmmm? That's a bit of a surprise.
Derek: He's been giving her a small smile every now and then when she goes to the bar.
Talia: [sighs] Well, we'll have to see how it goes.
Derek: They do look cute together. Maybe having a single source will calm her down. Hell, maybe she'll even settle down and get married.
Talia: Let's not go too crazy. I'd settle for having a lower employee turnover.
Derek: [laughs] At least you don't have to worry about Cora.
Talia: No, I don't. [glances over to where she and Stiles are sitting] Stiles is a good boy. She picked well.
Derek: Yeah, she did. He was a good soldier too. He will treat her well.
Talia: Good. I've been told he's going to be moving in with her at the house.
Derek: So I've heard. I will admit it was a good move for me and Allison. It made sure we were really compatible before we hit this stage.
Talia: [she nods] Hopefully it will go well, and it will be a good dry run before Boston.
Derek: He should have graduated by the time she enrolls. I think he will take good care of her on their own away from family.
Talia: Me too.
Derek: Though with the complications my wedding has, I don't see them getting married until you're well out of the presidency
Talia: Oh, no, I think it will take them a good long while - if nothing else a long engagement.
Derek: But they are adorable.
Talia: They are. And he's a good match for her.
Derek: So what's it like, not having to worry over your kids so much anymore?
Talia: Hard to appreciate when you still have to worry about the rest of the free world. Ask me again when I'm out of office.
Derek: I will. It isn't that far away, and then you can be free and sleep.
Talia: Then again, there is Peter.
Derek: There's no hope for him and we both know that.
Talia: I don't know. He and Freya have been doing rather well.
Derek: True. But how long did it take him to get there with her?
Talia: I don't think either he or Freya are the marrying kind. I'll settle for a very long term relationship.
Derek: Probably all you can hope for. [and the song is ending, and he playfully twirls his mother]
Talia: [smiles as she takes it, before pulling him in for a hug] I'm so happy for you.
Derek: [hugs her back, holding tightly. Always a mama's boy] Thanks, mom.
Talia: [pulls back and pats his shoulder] Now it's time for the speeches. Have fun with Klaus.
Derek: [groans] I think I need another drink.
Talia: [laughs as she nudges him back to his table] Make sure you eat something with it.
Derek: I'll try. [and he will go find his wife and lead her back to the table so that the torture can begin]
Allison: [smiles as she takes his hand, and leans in] Do you have any idea what this speech is going to be?
Derek: No, and we should both be afraid.
Allison: Hoo boy. [and they will both take their seats at the sweetheart table] At least while he's talking we can eat.
Derek: Just take small bites so you don't choke.
Allison: [smirks and nods]
Klaus: [gets up and clears his throat, already looking very pleased with himself as he's introduced by the dj]
Derek: [and he is going to get them more champagne because they are going to need it]
Klaus: Now, when I met ... Allison. [Allison's eyebrows go up because she thought this was going to go in a different direction] It was actually before Derek was in the picture. My brother Elijah was campaigning on behalf of the lovely President Hale, and the two of us got into a rather heated, rather extensive debate about policy and principles, and I will admit, I am simply a strategist, I care about what constituents want, not necessarily the morals behind them, but right off the bat she struck me as someone with passionate convictions and not one to be easily swayed. I left that meeting fairly convinced that whoever she did wind up marrying would have a long road ahead of them and would certainly be biting off more than they could chew. Naturally, that person happened to be my best friend.
Derek: [and he will reach over to take her hand, shaking his head a bit before looking back at his best friend]
Klaus: Now, I was against all of it from the start. Were this particular relationship happening in a small town in Verona, I would be dying in an ill-advised street fight, Derek would have to kill Kate, the whole situation would be very complicated and it's for the best it never occur at all. But then again, relationships have never really been my strong suit. Most of the time, they were likely to implode, and as a result, Derek would wind up trying to clean up the mess left in it's wake. There's likely a reason why not one but two of my ex-girlfriends happen to be at this particular wedding, regardless of how they feel about me.
Caroline: [from somewhere to her left where she's sitting with Tyler] It's because he's not an asshole, you tool!
Klaus: Thank you, Caroline. But it was ruminating on that particular fact, that I realized that perhaps, all this time, I had been missing the point.
Derek: [thank you, Caroline, for making the groom snort champagne]
Klaus: [and that makes him grin before he continues] See, the reason I was so against it all is because I was never really one to believe in opposites ever being good for anyone. Until I saw these two. After all, this is Derek Hale, and while I wouldn't say that he's a push over by any means, smoothing out the edges is in fact, what he does best. Where Allison crusades, Derek is a peacemaker. Allison is competitive, and Derek is a team player. She yells, he negotiates, and I do mean that as a compliment, Allison.
Allison: [shakes her head as she laughs]
Klaus: And most importantly of all, they love each other. If more couples were like the two of you, the divorce rate may not be what it is, so - [he turns and holds up his glass] - to Allison and Derek. May you continue to put all of us charming hot messes to shame.
Derek: [laughing] It's not as hard as you make it.
Klaus: I'll drink to that. [and there's a pause for laughter and applause and glasses clinking and the microphone will get passed to Lydia, who is looking both amused and nervous at the same time.]
Lydia: Eight hours after the dinner where Allison and Derek sat the two of us down and asked us to be their maid of honor and best man, I got a text from Klaus that read "I call dibs on the extended Romeo and Juliet metaphor."
Derek: Of course, he did. He's a drama queen.
Lydia: When I said okay, I clearly should have leveraged it so that I, the mathematician, didn't have to go after him, the professional speech writer, but here we are.
Allison: [gives her a warm look as she turns to face her best friend]
Lydia: Short, sweet, and to the point: Allison, I love you. You're my best friend , and I couldn't be happier for you that you've finally found someone who appreciates you as you are, with no caveats. Derek, I appreciate you humoring me when I told you it was me you'd have to worry about over Allison's pro-gun family.
Derek: You weren't lying. [smiles]
Lydia: True, but you didn't know that at the time. the point is, be happy, love each other, and I wish you the best of everything. To Derek and Allison! [more cheers, more glasses clinking, success!]
