regency au } { of journals and looking to the past
Laura: [she gives him a few days to resettle at home, to have some of the tension and stress melt away. She waits until Liam and Malia depart with Peter and Kate for the summer castle, before talking the journals that Allison pointed out and bringing the main one back to her husband, settling in next to him] I think we need to talk about this.
Parrish: [letting Liam go after everything that happened, knowing that the young man, who was like his little brother, no longer had the natural defenses of being a werewolf to protect him, scared him. Sure, Malia, Peter, and Kate wouldn't let any harm come to him, but seeing how long it took Liam to recover made him nervous. Which is why he's sitting on the couch in the common room, a book open on his lap but he's looking out the window instead.]
Laura: [tips her head to the side and makes her way closer, resting her hand on his shoulder] Love?
Parrish: [he turns his head to look at her, then reaches up to place his hand on top of hers] Sorry, I was just thinking.
Laura: Penny for your thoughts? [she moves to sit opposite him on the window seat]
Parrish: I'm just worried about Liam. Until I met you, he was the only person in my life. He was my family. I just feel bad that I can't be with him while he's going through all this.
Laura: I know. But he will be safe with my uncle and Malia. And when he's ready he will return.
Parrish: In my head I know that. Malia alone is enough to care for him, but Peter won't let anything near them to try and harm him. I just... I feel like I'm breaking a promise, you know? It's that same feeling when we sent him off to squire after we found him stealing.
Laura: I do. But from our conversation before he left I think he needs this. Time to think on his own and sort out what comes next.
Parrish: I hope he finds those answers. [and he'll shift to focus on Laura properly, closing the book in his lap] Did you need me for something?
Laura: I wanted to talk to you about what you and Allison found before things turned ... unfortunate.
Parrish: [his eyebrows furl as he tries to remember what he was doing right before Liam exploded through the wall] I don't remember what we found, to be honest.
Laura: [hands over the journal] You were reading through the old journals. She mentioned that there were notes about a sister?
Parrish: [he opens it up to where Allison had left the ribbon bookmark] I remember now. She was mentioning that, but I don't have any memories of a sister, at least from what I remember after being experimented on.
Laura: [nods] She also mentioned that some of the passages were written as though you are from Savoy. Where Jonathan is from. It's hard not to see the resemblance.
Parrish: [he sits and rereads his words, then flips back to see the dates in the journal] This is the journal I started right after we escaped. I've never really reread this one. It was too raw emotion. [he reads the page, seeing where he talked about "feeling like half of him is missing, like his other half had its own life away from him. Maybe he had a twin, a sister if he did. Liam says I used to talk in my sleep while in the cage, calling out for a Jaclyn. "] Jaclyn. I can't see a face, but the name does feel familiar. Do we know any Jaclyns?
Laura: [shakes her head] Not to my recollection.
Parrish: You've talked with Jonathan at this point, right? Is there anything he's said that might make you think we're related, beside the uncanny similarities of our face?
Laura: Amelia's been spending more time with him than I have. She's been helping him with his abilities. You might be better off asking her. But ... he did mention to me that he was from a town called Guilder.
Parrish: Guilder? [leans back in his chair] I haven't heard that word in a long time.
Laura: I thought it sounded a little familiar. [teasing] A knight told me lovely stories about a place called Gilderland once upon a time.
Parrish: Well, that knight was making everything up because he had no memory of where he grew up. [smiles] It was more of what I hoped a homeland would be like.
Laura: Perhaps it's worth it to go and see the real one? See where fantasy and reality meet?
Parrish: [he thinks, looking at the journal and flipping back a few pages to the barely legible writing and what he had assumed were fractured pieces of memories from all the others who had been pushed into Malivore.] Perhaps I should. If nothing comes, at least he'll get home safe.
Laura: Do you want me to do go with you?
Parrish: Yes. If we by chance find... discover I have a family... I'm as much of a part of it as my beautiful lady.
Laura: [smiles] I'll leave Derek in charge while we're gone.
Parrish: I'm sure he will enjoy that.
Laura: Amelia's been doing very well with helping Jonathan with his powers though. I think she'll be quite good at all of this when the time comes for her to be in charge.
Parrish: Good. But that won't be for a long time. [because they are going to live long, happy lives]
Laura: [nods] A very, very long time. [smiles as she leans in to kiss him softly] But she's been worried about you. You should try and spend some time before we go.
Parrish: [kisses her back] I shall do that.
Laura: Good. And I will speak to Jonathan. How soon would you like to leave?
Parrish: Give me another day or two. Give me time to spend with Amelia, and see if Grayson needs time with me as well.
Laura: [nods] Whenever you're ready, let me know.
Parrish: [wraps his hands around her waist] Though of course, right now I could use a bit of adult time.
Laura: [laughs] Oh could you?
Parrish: Long, happy life, right?
Laura: You did say that, yes. [leans in to kiss him] But in the middle of the day? How scandalous.
Parrish: Our tower is high up enough, and we just need to lock the door.
Laura: Mmmm. You do make a very convincing case.
Parrish: That is how I won your heart to begin with. [kisses her again]
Laura: One of the ways, at least. [leans in to kiss him back, running her fingers through his hair]
Parrish: [and there will be sexy times ahead]
Laura: [they are happily married, they're allowed]
Parrish: [roll for pregnancy?]
Laura: [it's an 18, so that's a no.]
