Laura: [wanders into their room while Derek and Talia are out, knocking lightly on the door frame as she does] Hey.
Jason: [is on the bed reading, but looks up and grins] Hey beautiful.
Laura: [she grins a bit before moving to climb into bed next to him] So ... Matt is here.
Jason: In Beacon Hills?
Laura: Yep.
Jason: He's going to think he won the lotto.
Laura: Yeah. [she shifts a bit so that she curls into his shoulder] Just would have been nice if he had called first rather than tracking me down at the bar when I was hanging out with Derek.
Jason: Well, he does lack a sense of timing. I take it Derek knows now.
Laura: He does. But what he had to say was ... interesting. [there's a pause as she looks up at him] He thinks that it might all be the same gene. All different kinds of shifters, same gene, just presenting differently through various psychological factors.
Jason: [that has his attention as he's sitting up more] So he thinks all shifters are the same, but what we look like is based what we think we are?
Laura: [sits up with him nodding a bit] How we're socialized or things that have happened to us - it might explain why Peter's shift changed the way it did? Or at least give us a place to start.
Jason: But if that's true, then how did the regional ideas of some of these shifters come to be?
Laura: [she shrugs] I don't know. Maybe it's part of the socialization of it. The gene doesn't just adapt to who the person is but also all the other influences around them. I guess that's something he can expand once he proves that it actually exists.
Jason: So what do we need to do?
Laura: He wants blood samples so he can run a DNA work up. Peter agreed to do it too, but you'll have to draw the blood.
Jason: I can bring home a kit from work tomorrow. [ thinks] Laura, this is for more than Peter. It's about us too, isn't it?
Laura: [she glances up at him before giving a bit of a shrug] If it's all the same thing, we're all the same species ... [she holds his gaze for a moment] ... I originally asked him because I realized that if there was anyone I wanted to start a family with it was going to be you. And I wanted to see if we would be able to have that on our own.
Jason: [blinks] You.... you're thinking about starting a family with me? [he's smiling, just shocked]
Laura: [her cheeks color a bit and her head ducks] Yeah. Just a little bit.
Jason: [he reached over to put a finger under her chin and lift it] Then I guess the house plans I've been working on with Peter and your mother aren't in vain after all.
Laura: [her eyes come up to meet his and they widen in surprise] What house?
Jason: The one I was planning to get built now that I accepted the full time doctor position at Beacon Medical.
Laura: [she stares at him for a moment, trying to figure out what to say to him, but she decides that words are stupid and just leans in to kiss him instead]
Jason: [smiles and kisses her, his hands going to cup her face. When he needs to pull back, he looks at her] I know how close you and your family are, and we aren't that far from mine on this coast. As long as I'm with you, I'm happy.
Laura: [she nods a bit as she leans forward, resting her forehead against his] Me too.
Jason: Though before we move down this road, I do need to do the proper rituals.
Laura: Oh really? [she slides her arms around him as she moves closer] I think we're already pretty good at one of them.
Jason: [laughs] Yes, we are very good at one of them. But I'm thinking of another ritual that needs to be done first, and the traditions I must abide to.
Laura: [she sighs softly] Can I have a checklist or something? Just so I know how far along we are?
Jason: [ kisses her lips] Trust me, you will know when we are at the end of it. But this is something I alone must do.
Laura: [sighs] Fine. I can wait.
Jason: But until then, we can keep practicing for the future.
Laura: [she grins] Practice does make perfect. We want to be sure we're doing it right.
Jason: As a doctor, it's a passion of mine to make sure I have full understanding of how the body works
Laura: Well, I would hate for you not to pursue your passion.
Jason: And this is all the more reason for us to get our own house soon. [because her family could hear them]
Laura: [she pauses, considering] Fiona may have offered to let us sublet her place while she's in DC. She didn't want to give it up completely and her rent's pretty reasonable. I didn't give her an answer because I wanted to talk to you first.
Jason: Derek I know let his apartment go. I asked as I helped him move his things here. I would not be opposed to moving there. It will be easier for me to get to work.
Laura: [grins] Then I'll let her know we'll take it.
Jason: [smiles] Good.
Laura: [leans in to kiss him again slowly] It'll be nice to have you all to myself again.
Jason: Same here. [his hand runs along her cheek, caressing her]
Laura: [hums softly at the touch] I wish I knew how long my mom and Derek were going to be gone. [because Cora is out and in theory, they had the house to themselves]
Jason: Best to wait, my Akaibara.
Laura: [she pouts a bit, before reluctantly pulling away from him] Let me go call Fiona, then, and let her know.
Jason: Okay. I should probably take a shower and get ready for work.
Laura: [she nods before leaning in to kiss him once more] If I don't see you, have a good shift.
Jason: [kisses her back, then smiles] I love you.
Laura: Love you too. [and with that she heads off to call Fiona]
