spamalot } { of home comings and birthday parties
[On the weekend of Talia’s birthday there is a paaaaaaaartay and Derek is coming to surprise his family. He arrives in the backyard, looking more muscular than when he left and he looks at the rest of them with a grin.]
Derek: Hello? Anyone home? [grins]
Cora: [the entire backyard sort of stares at him for a moment before Cora's totally abandoning the game and Derek has a flying projectile sister, because he really doesn't know how much she missed him, especially recently]
Derek: [and he was expecting it, and got himself centered and ready to catch the werewolf speed projectile aimed at him, swinging her around with the momentum and snuggling her close] There's my pup.
Peter: [chuckles, handing the tongs over to Sheriff for a moment, who nods in understanding]
Stiles: [just sighs] Well, there goes my girlfriend for the weekend.
Malia: [laughs a bit as she sheds her gear to head over herself] Don't worry, you'll get her back.
Cora: [closes her eyes and burrows into the hug, taking a deep breath as she inhales his scent] I missed you so much.
Laura: [is getting up as well, jogging over to the stairs] What are you doing here?
Stiles: Yeah, when he leaves back for school.
Peter: [is keeping his distance, waiting for the kids to finish]
Thomas: [sitting with Malia, just enjoying watching them]
Derek: You really think I'd miss Mom's birthday party? [grins at Laura, then pets the back of Cora's head and kisses her cheek] I missed you too, Cora.
Laura: Yeah, but I think we were expecting a phone call, not an in person visit. [reaches over to tug lightly on Cora's ponytail] Hey. Share.
Cora: [sighs before relenting and giving Laura room to lean in and hug their brother instead] If I must.
Fiona: [sticks her head out from behind them and just ... vaults herself over the edge of the porch and makes her way over to Jason] I feel slightly superfluous.
Derek: Well, when your host family has their own private jet, you can sometimes ask for favors. [he keeps one hand on Cora's back, the other pulling Laura into the hug as well] More than enough for the both of you.
Jason: [hands her a beer] Welcome to the couch of superfluous significant others.
Stiles: Hey, can I join? I get beer if I join, right?
Jason & Sheriff: NO.
Fiona: [laughs a bit, taking the beer and patting the seat next to her] C'mon, Stiles. There's still plenty of room.
Cora: [and both his sisters are just going to curl into him and take the hug. Yep. They're not going anywhere anytime soon]
Malia & Allison: [are just going to wander back over and hang on the outskirts of the family reunion]
Stiles: [hops onto the couch next to Fiona] So what's been going on?
Scott & Isaac: [go to stand with Malia and Allison]
Derek: [is fine with the hugs for a bit longer, then looks up] So you know, I should probably go say hello to mom sometime soon.
Talia: [laughs as she starts to stand up] Yes, probably. [but she was willing to give them time]
Fiona: [she shrugs] The usual. Derek's got his school thing, I've got my emissary thing. It's been good.
Stiles: Ah. And no crazy things coming after either of you trying to end the world?
Peter: I can go last. I just saw him last month. [amused]
Fiona: Nope. Just the usual crazy that comes with my family.
Talia: [makes her way over as her daughters move to the side, before pulling him in close] It's good to see you.
Derek: [and similar to how Cora had nuzzled into Derek, he now leans down to nuzzle into his mother's neck after kissing her cheek, his arms wrapping around her tightly] Happy birthday, Mom. I missed you.
Talia: [her hand wanders up to brush against the back of his neck, closing her eyes into the hold] I missed you too.
Derek: [his eyes are closed and he's taking in her scent. Her tall, built, grown son melting into her touch easily and pressing his forehead and cheek against her in affection]
Thomas: No matter how old they get, they're still three overgrown puppies.
Peter: [an amused eyebrow goes up] That's never going to change. You should see me and Talia on bad days.
Thomas: I have. Overgrown puppies, the lot of you.
Talia: [glances back over her shoulder at Thomas as though to say "Don't ruin the moment" before pulling back so that she can look at her son] You look good.
Derek: [smiles] Nik's been working me hard. I think I've almost got him beat though. He doesn't take it easy on me though per someone's orders.
Peter: [smug grin]
Talia: [she laughs] Well, it's been good for you. [she took his hand, before pulling him back to where she and his father were sitting] You'll have to tell me about school.
Derek: [looks back at his sisters, giving them both innocent shrugs because, well, alpha wins and follows her over]
Thomas: [moves over to make room for him] Derek. Good to see you. Didn't think I was going to see you until Christmas.
Derek: Good to see you too, Dad. [but that's about it. More pleasant that Cora, but not as close as Laura. Always somewhere in the middle] How you feeling?
Thomas: Good as can be expected.
Talia: [sits next to Thomas and leans back against the couch] How are your classes?
Derek: Great, but between that and my teaching and grading responsibilities, I'm barely functional by the weekend. But the professors seriously are walking history and mythology books. I've learned more in the last two months than I have in four years of undergrad.
Talia: Good. That's what they're paying for.
Derek: Yeah, but I'm really, really glad to have the weekend off. Term papers and finals are starting and I have to grade two classes worth of them while worrying about my own three.
Fiona: [from the superfluous couch] I volunteered to help, but unfortunately I'm not qualified.
Derek: You can help in other ways. [grins]
Stiles: Wow... that was too much information.
Fiona: [grins back at him before taking another sip of her beer]
Talia: [amused all the same] And the Kirsanovs have been treating you well.
Derek: Yeah. Nik lives with us for the most part, and Nadia is around a lot. Victor is supposed to be coming for business sometime soon so I'll finally get to meet him. But they've been very generous. I've never felt this spoiled. Well, financially, that is. It still doesn't beat home.
Talia: Good. Glad to hear it.
Derek: You should come out for a weekend. Maybe in the spring when the cherry blossoms are back in bloom.
Talia: We'll see how things are at home. The next few months are going to be busy.
Derek: Yeah. But I'm coming back with the wave of Russians and Irishmen in December for the wedding. [leans back to look over at Laura] The first of two coming up?
Scott: Wait, I missed something?
Laura: [laughs a bit before turning and holding her hand over to Scott] Jason and I got engaged.
Scott: [looks at the ring] Oh wow, that's awesome [and yeah, totally hugging Laura]
Derek: But I should be out here until January 4th, and then I have to head back for the spring.
Talia: Good. And we'll actually be prepared this time.
Derek: [grins] You don't like surprise parties. So they threw you a party, and I decided to nominate myself as the surprise.
Talia: [she laughs] Well, it was a good surprise.
Derek: And I'm technically fun for the whole family.
Talia: I have a feeling that this will probably the most I see of you this weekend, once your sisters get a hold of you.
Derek: Fiona's already been warned she probably won't get near me again until the plane ride home.
Jason: That's fine. Stiles and I will keep her company. Right Stiles.
Stiles: Team Ditched for the win.
Fiona: Team Ditched. Has a nice ring to it.
Derek: [and since there is room on the couch, he's just going to stretch out and just put his head in his mom's lap. Sorry, sisters. He gets to have all of mom's attention and he's loving it]
Talia: [yeah, she's not complaining. She's happy he's home, even if it's only for a little while]
Jason: [leans over to Fiona] You realize he's basking in the attention, right?
Fiona: [she sighs] It's his mom. He's allowed.
Peter: [just rolls his eyes and walks back to help the Sheriff with the food] Kids.
Cora: [well, Derek is occupied] You guys want to go back to the game?
Stiles: Oh my god yes. Please. I'm all but waiting for him to ask for belly rubs at this point.
Scott: [puts a hand on Stiles' shoulder and drags him off the couch]
Stiles: Hey, what are you... come on no wolf powers!
Malia: So you're basically saying that Scott and Allison tackle flirting with each other is better than watching Derek get a little maternal affection?
Isaac: [who has been silent the whole time] I think he's happy to be tackle flirted with himself.
