spamalot } { of unexpected surprises and separate vacations

Fiona: [she's lingering outside the door for a moment, wondering how she's going to tell him this when she isn't even sure how she feels about it but she hopes he's happy about it. She doesn't know what she'll do if he's not. She takes one more deep breath, and she'll open the door to make her way inside] I'm home.

Derek: [ looks up from his book, then smiles] I see. Lucy, look who's home. [he reaches over to pick up the little girl and set her down on her feet, hold her until she was standing on her own]

Lucy: [will wave her little arms eagerly when she's let go, bouncing a bit as Fiona makes her way across the room]

Fiona: [smiles when she sees them, dropping her bags at the door before making her way closer. She reaches down, scooping up her daughter to pull her close, before reaching for Derek's hand to pull him in for a kiss] Hi. I missed you.

Derek: [kisses her back, smiling] We missed you too. House is too big without everyone in it.

Fiona: [stays close, just the three of them] Is Liam back yet?

Derek: No, I think he and Gabe were going to a concert tomorrow and then Nik was going to drive him back on his way to visit Nadia.

Fiona: Good. Then we get one day without a clingy teenager.

Derek: Good. You can have clingy husband and baby all to yourself then.

Fiona: I will enjoy it. [she turns and presses a kiss to Lucy's forehead before going and putting her back down with her toys for a moment] Especially because there's something I have to talk to you about.

Derek: Oh? [he lifts himself up to sit on the couch] Something happen in New York?

Fiona: Yeah. [she moves to sit next to him, tucking one leg under her] You know that stomach bug I had?

Derek: [he nods, paling a bit because this sounds bad and Fiona is human so she was susceptible to normal diseases]

Fiona: It ... it wasn't a stomach bug. [she takes a breath as she takes his hand and squeeze it tightly] Before you freak out, I'm fine.

Derek: [he takes a deep breath] If you're fine, then I'm very confused.

Fiona: [she closes her eyes] You know that big important thing we thought I couldn't do? Apparently it wasn't as ... impossible as we thought.

Derek: [his eyes narrow a moment to try and figure out what she... wait... his eyes widen] You mean the thing... the big making a family thing?

Fiona: [she looks up him, clearly nervous, before nodding]

Derek: And is it... going to be dangerous for you?

Fiona: [shakes her head a bit] The doctor doesn't think so? I mean, we might not want to tell anyone until we get through the first trimester or so, but if we make it to full term ... [one healthy baby Hale. one that's all theirs]

Derek: Peter says that you can't hear the heartbeat until the sixteenth week. So we can probably keep it hidden that long. After that, all bets are off.

Fiona: [she nods a bit, her fingers playing with his] But this ... is good?

Derek: If you think you can survive a two year old, a sixteen year old, and an infant all at the same time... I think it's a very good thing.

Fiona: I can manage. I just know we've gone through a lot because of this, and I don't know if it'll be able to happen again, and I just ... I honestly don't really know what to do because I had gotten used to thinking this wasn't going to happen and ... [she's just going to keep going unless you stop her, Derek]

Derek: [he's going to slide over to her, pull her into his arms and just kiss her to stop her rambling]

Fiona: [her hands flail a bit at first, surprised by being pulled suddenly, but then he's kissing her and she's relaxing into him, her arms sliding around his waist]

Derek: [ kisses her a bit more, and the presses his forehead to hers] We'll just take it a day at a time. And I'll do my best to take care of you.

Fiona: [she sighs a bit, before looking up at him with a small tentative smile] We're having a baby.

Derek: We're having a baby. [grins] A perfect little blend of you and me.

Fiona: [she laughs a bit, finally letting her actually be happy about it. She reaches up, brushing her hand against the side of his face] God, I hope this works.

Derek: [puts his hand on top of hers, covering it and squeezing it a bit] It will work. We'll just take things easy, and I'll spoil you rotten.

Fiona: [she smirks a bit, turning into his arms so that her back is pressed against his chest, pulling his arms around her] I like the sound of that.

Derek: [pulls her in and leans back against the couch, nuzzling into her neck] So how far are you along?

Fiona: About two months?

Derek: [he thinks, his lips kissing her mate mark before he stops] When we were in Hawaii?

Fiona: [she nods a bit, her eyes closing at the touch] It must have been.

Derek: [chuckles] Maybe the mating had a little bit of magic in it to help.

Fiona: Maybe. [smirks a bit]

Derek: And just one more reason people will say I should have done it a lot sooner.

Fiona: [hums as she curls into him more] I missed you.

Derek: I missed you too. It's been hard being alone.

Fiona: I know. I wish you could have been there at the doctor's office.

Derek: Was Leah there at least?

Fiona: [she nods] Yeah, she was.

Derek: She excited?

Fiona: She fussed over me the entire rest of the trip.

Derek: Good. I will send her a thank you card. [kisses her shoulder]

Fiona: [she laughs at that, her hand resting over his for a moment. She swallows, then looks up at him, the nerves still there] I don't know what I'll do if this doesn't work.

Derek: Even people who are healthy do lose babies, Fiona. We will get through it. But let's not focus on it. We'll talk to Jason and Melissa and see what we need to do to make sure everything goes just fine.

Fiona: I know. I know. I'm trying. I just got so used to the idea of this not happening, and now that it is ...

Derek: It's a gift. [he turned to look at her over her shoulder] Something we never thought we would have, so we just cherish it, and thank god for him or her every day.

Fiona: [she watches him for a moment, before nodding. she'll try to keep her nerves to herself]

Derek: But I'm here for you too. Okay? So you need to talk, talk to me

Fiona: [nods a bit] I might. A lot. I might freak out a lot.

Derek: I can handle you freaking out.

Fiona: I don't know if I can handle me freaking out.

Derek: I promise you, Fi, you will be fine. You have a huge support system on multiple coasts. You don't have to do anything but relax and let us take care of you.

Fiona: On one level, I know you're right. But one the emotional crazy hormonal level that I know will be coming I can't promise I'll be rational.

Derek: I'm ready for the challenge. And if not, I'll hide at school and send you to my mom.

Fiona: [she laughs] Deal.

Derek: [kisses her] I love you.

Fiona: I love you too.

Derek: And I really, really missed you. [snuggles closer]

Fiona: [sighs softly as she closes her eyes into his hold] I missed you too. We need to stop doing separate vacations.

Derek: Your sister wanted time with you. I'm so not going to fight her on that. She scares me.

Fiona: You could have come with me.

Derek: Well, next time I will. I just... I just wasn't really ready for that huge household yet.

Fiona: [she nods] Good. Because they asked about you.

Derek: Next time, I promise. [he nuzzles her neck again] I'm getting there, I swear.

Fiona: I know. [her hand comes up to brush against the side of his face] How were things here?

Derek: Good. I got some writing done. Stiles cooked me dinner twice, and I went out for a day out on the reserve with Mom. But mostly stayed in.

Fiona: So lots of quality Lucy time.

Derek: Pretty much. [chuckles] I hope Lucy handles being the middle child okay.

Fiona: I don't see why she won't.

Derek: Seems Stiles and Cora are having issues with Dina learning to share them with others.

Fiona: Ahh. Well, Lucy has the benefit of not being an only child. If she's feeling needy, she can run to Liam for back up.

Derek: Speaking of the boy child... should we tell him before the rest of the family, or make him wait?

Fiona: Do you think he can keep it a secret?

Derek: I think he's better at keeping secrets than we give him credit for.

Fiona: Then we should tell him. He'd be the one most likely to figure it out first.

Derek: Does Victor know?

Fiona: [nods] He knows to keep it to himself, though.

Derek: So we don't have to worry about Nik or Nadia knowing just yet either.

Fiona: [she shakes her head] He can keep a secret.

Derek: Your brothers are going to be deliriously happy.

Fiona: Oh, I'm sure.

Derek: [looks around the loft] We're also going to need more rooms.

Fiona: [hums a bit] I suppose we do.

Derek: Which means we have a choice. We could stay here or... well, there's a plot of land at the preserve that's mine if I ever want it.

Fiona: [takes a breath as she turns to face him more] Are we ready for a house?

Derek: I don't know. I mean, I love the loft and being in the city but close enough to home. But being on the preserve, especially with little ones has advantages. I mean, we're a pack for many reasons.

Fiona: [she sighs as she turns to face him] It's your family. It's your piece of land. If you're ready for that, then I'll back you.

Derek: [his bites on his lower lip a moment, then nods] How about we get through your pregnancy first. I can make my office into a nursery and we can take our time deciding on a forever home. Because you never know what other wayward wolf baby will end up at our doorstep too. As long as we have the room, we can still help take them in.

Fiona: [she nods] Sounds good to me.

Derek: But this has been a good home to us. If nothing else, we don't have to sell it. We can keep it and give it to Liam when he graduates college. Or let Lydia move in when Stiles and Cora start expanding their family.

Fiona: [she nods] We'll see what happens. I'm sure we'll find some way to put it to use.

Derek: But we can worry about that later. [Snuggles his wife more into him, looking down at where Lucy was playing]

Fiona: [and they get in some quality snuggle family time?]

Derek: [yup. just the three of them. for 48 hours until the whirwind of a teenager comes home]
