Caroline: [and eventually the constant pain will ease and Caroline will pokes her head out looking ... probably disturbed because despite it being the miracle of life it's still pretty awful and painful, and she gives Derek a smile] It's a girl.

Derek: [the relief is welcome, and he smiles.] Can I see her?

Caroline: Melissa and Bonnie are cleaning up Elena and the baby but once they're done, you can go in.

Derek: Thank you, Caroline. Just tell Elena I am here waiting when she is ready.

Caroline: [she nods and back in the door she goes again]

Melissa: [and a few minutes later, Melissa brings out a cleaned up baby girl to place in Derek's arms] Elena's resting for now, and she probably won't be up for a while but I figured you'd like to meet your daughter.

Derek: Of course I would. [and he takes the baby happily] Hello angel.

Melissa: [the baby girl just stares up at him, fingers flexing as she figures out what her hands are for] You can wait inside, if you want.

Derek: Yes, somewhere warm so she doesn't get too cold. [and he will let Melissa lead him as he keeps the baby close where she can hear his heartbeat]

Melissa: [and in they go to Elena and Derek's room, where Elena is curled up in bed fast asleep] Now, remember that your wife is human. She's not going to heal as quickly as your sister did so let her rest. [stern Melissa McCall look as she pulls up a chair for him]

Derek: I will. [he's pretty sure Caroline will try and gut him if he didn't, and Elena had good friends to help care for her] We will just sit here and wait for her, won't we angel?

Melissa: [and the baby lets out a tired "mmmmmmm" before closing her eyes again] I'll be down the hall if you need anything.

Derek: Thank you, Melissa. [a smile, and then he will relax in the chair and just let his daughter sleep in his arms]

Elena: [will be out for a long time, but eventually she will start to rouse as one hand coming up to rub at her eyes as she does. Everything hurts and she doesn't really want to move, but she also wants to see her baby]

Derek: [he will hear the change in heartbeat and get up slowly to not disturb the baby as he walks over] We're here, love. Just relax.

Elena: [sighs as she opens her eyes before smiling at him] I hope I didn't sleep too long.

Derek: You're going to be sleeping for a while, so don't worry about it at all. You did a lot of work and grew a tiny human being. I think you get to be as lazy as you want for the near future. In fact, Melissa may yell at you if you try and get out of bed for at least a week.

Elena: [she laughs softly, before patting the bed next to her for Derek to sit] Yes, but there's no saying you both can't join me.

Derek: I just may. [he goes to sit, shifting a bit] Come meet the fruits of your labor.

Elena: [she very slowly pushes herself up into a sitting position so that she can take her daughter from him with a bright smile] Hello, little girl.

Derek: She pretty much fell asleep when Melissa gave her to me, so you weren't the only one out.

Elena: She's perfect. [the fingers of her free hand brush over the top of her daughter's head]

Derek: I didn't doubt she'd be anything else.

Elena: [she laughs softly at that, before looking up at him again] Neither did I.

Derek: [and with the baby safely in Elena's arms, he's going to shift to move against the headboard and first lean down to kiss her, and then make it so that she could lay in his arms easily]

Elena: [and she will do just that, settling comfortably against him before she looks up again] Can we name her Miranda?

Derek: Who would that be after?

Elena: [swallows] My mother.

Derek: As long as we can name the next daughter Talia.

Elena: [she nods] I am okay with that.

Derek: Then her name will be Miranda.

Elena: [nods as she looks down with a smile] Your uncle is going to be so upset you got here without him. [to the baby]

Derek: He can have uncle time when he gets here. It'll probably be the next time we will get real sleep.

Elena: [she laughs] Probably true. But your sister and uncle will be back soon as well. I'm sure she will spend plenty of time getting to know her family.

Derek: I will admit, with Patience, having a large family has become a very unexpected benefit.

Elena: [she nods] We will have plenty of time to wake up for whatever sleep Miranda causes us to lose. I doubt we'll even have to ask.

Derek: Probably not. [he leans down to kiss the top of her head] And until you're feeling up to it, anything you need I will take care of.

Elena: [smiles at that before looking up at him] Right now, I simply need you to stay here.

Derek: That's easy.

Elena: Hopefully I would never ask anything too trying of you.

Derek: I doubt you could. [he will snuggle her closer]

Elena: [leans into him with a soft sigh] I love you.

Derek: I love you too, Elena. [and he will kiss her]

Elena: [kisses him back and just stays where she is, resting comfortably] If I fall asleep against you, don't let me drop her. [not that she would drop far, but it's still bad]

Derek: [he will slip his arms around her, supporting her arms and the baby both] How about that?

Derek: I think Patience is going to be happy to have a baby sister.

Elena: Me too. If we can get her to stand still long enough to say hello to her.

Derek: The next few months are going to be interesting while we're all inside with the snow.

Elena: It is. But I think we'll make it work.

Elena: It is. But I think we'll make it work.

Derek: Of course we will, as long as we work together, we can do anything.

Elena: I couldn't agree more. [glances up at him with a grin] And once she is older, maybe we could try for a boy.

Derek: I would love that. [kisses her again]

Elena: [kisses him back, staying close for a moment before pulling back] I think I'm going to go back to sleep. Can you take her?

Derek: I've got a better idea. [he will shift onto his side, bringing up the blanket and making a bowl between them with it and a pillow] We can all asleep together.

Elena: [glances up and nods a bit, before settling in comfortably and closing her eyes] Good night.

Derek: Goodnight. [and he will watch both his wife and daughter sleep before drifting off himself]

Elena: [yep. big happy family pile]

Derek: [best feeling ever]

Elena: [good, she's glad]
