peter & cora } { of first dates and finding closure

Peter: You look beautiful.

Melissa: [smiles as she nods] Thank you. So do you.

Peter: Thank you. [motions to the car] Shall we? It's a bit of a drive down to LA.

Melissa: [she nods as she steps forward towards the car] Let's do it.

Peter: [and he will open the door to the car for her, and in her seat is a bouquet of flowers]

Melissa: [and that makes her smile wider, picking it up as she sits down] You really pulled out all the stops, huh?

Peter: Well, it's been awhile since I dated, so I wanted to make sure I did it right.

Melissa: I think you're definitely off to the right start.

Peter: Good to know. [and he will wait for her to settle, and then go in on the other side so that they can drive down to the shore and a nice beachside restaurant]

Melissa: [which is lovely and maybe a walk on the beach when they're done]

Peter: [yup. His pants rolled up, carrying their shoes and holding hands]

Melissa: [takes a deep breath as they walk with a sigh] It's so beautiful out here.

Peter: It is. You don't really get to enjoy it with all the tourists in the day, but it's nice.

Melissa: I always preferred it like this. Less crowds.

Peter: I guess next time I should bring a blanket so we can just sit here and enjoy it.

Melissa: I think that sounds like a great idea.

Peter: Bring a picnic dinner. Some wine.

Melissa: Just enjoy the stars.

Peter: And the view. [looking at her, meaning her]

Melissa: [she glances over to meet his eyes and her head ducks a bit at the implication] That too.

Peter: [and he will stop, turning to face her and smile] You look beautiful when you blush like that.

Melissa: [which naturally makes her blush more] You have to stop that.

Peter: Oh? Why?

Melissa: Because being too charming is dangerous for your health.

Peter: Well, I guess it's a good thing I know an amazing nurse to care for me.

Melissa: I'm sure it is.

Peter: Someone who could even perform mouth to mouth if and when I get too bold. [leans in]

Melissa: [she laughs, but she doesn't pull away] I don't know. If you're getting fresh, she might just let you suffocate.

Peter: Then I guess I need to make sure I don't toe the line.

Melissa: Guess you will.

Peter: But I have to admit, it's very tempting. [and he will let her hand go to gently caress her cheek. so close]

Melissa: Is it.

Peter: I think I'll take my chance. [and he will kiss her gently]

Melissa: [it's been a while since someone's done that, but man it's nice. her hands come up to rest against his shoulders as she leans in closer, kissing him back]

Peter: [no slapping, that's going to be a good sign to Peter and he will gently pull her in closer]

Melissa: [sighs as she curls into him, sliding her arms around his shoulders]

Peter: [and he will deepen the kiss, his hands settling on her hips to keep her close]

Melissa: [she melts into him, just relishing the kiss and enjoying the moment]

Peter: [and eventually he will pull away just a bit, looking into her eyes and smiling] So should I be worried about being slapped?

Melissa: [she pauses before shaking her head] Not this time.

Peter: Good. [and he will just go in and kiss her again]

Melissa: [and she will kiss him back, sinking in to enjoy it]

Peter: [and after a bit, he will pull back again, smiling and running his hand along her cheek] I've been wanting to do that for a while.

Melissa: [she nods with a smile] Me too.

Peter: Good. Would you like to go get a coffee or some dessert now?

Melissa: Sure. That sounds good.

Peter: [and he will take her hand again and they can find a little coffee and pastry place on the boardwalk]

Melissa: [which is delicious and they get to talk some more before they absolutely have to head back to Beacon Hills]

Peter: [and they will drive back, and Peter is amazing at driving with one hand, the other holding hers]

Melissa: [which she will enjoy until they get back to the McCall house and he has to walk her to the door]

Peter: [which he will, making sure she has her flowers as well] And think, with the kid's at John's, you can get a good night sleep without having to worry about Scott.

Melissa: It does. And you can have a quiet night without Cora, not that Cora prone to making that much of a ruckus.

Peter: No, she's pretty quiet. You barely know she's there most nights.

Melissa: Is it the good kind of quiet or the kind of quiet where you might start worrying about her eventually?

Peter: Good kind, but the one where I may need to put a cowbell on her at night.

Melissa: [she laughs]

Peter: Well, I should let you go.

Melissa: [she nods] Probably a good idea. But we should ... try and do this again.

Peter: I think John has the kids again on Wednesday...?

Melissa: [she nods] Wednesday sounds good.

Peter: I will see you then. [and he will lean in to give her a goodnight kiss]

Melissa: [and she will kiss him back, before pulling back to slip inside]

Peter: [and he's not going to try and invite himself in, but he will turn to head back to the car]

Melissa: [it's for the best, but hey. maybe Wednesday]

Peter: [maybe. he is going to just be respectful though. He has a daughter to be an example to now]

Melissa: [yes, and she doesn't want her son getting wind of this quite yet. doesn't want him to get overexcited]

Peter: [but of course John is going to know what's happening soon because he's a detective]

Melissa: [probably. and she'll just hope he doesn't say anything about it]

John: [nope, but he's going to be expecting them not to saddle him with more than his share of kid time.]

Melissa: [they would never]

Peter: [and they will even stay in town on Wednesday]

Melissa: [yep. keep things quiet and local. maybe Melissa will even cook]

Peter: [he will bring the wine and dessert]

Melissa: [which will be lovely and they'll just have a nice evening chatting]

Peter: [sitting on the couch afterwards with the rest of their wine]

Melissa: [goes to join him as she settles with a sigh] I love nights like this. My house is never as quiet as it is when Scott isn't home.

Peter: I can imagine that with Stiles here too, there is no such thing as silence.

Melissa: No, there isn't. That is, unless Cora is talking.

Peter: Those two boys mean the world to her.

Melissa: The feeling is mutual. Especially on Stiles' end.

Peter: She couldn't have a better set of friends. Even if they all need less sugar in their diets.

Melissa: [she laughs] Hey, I do my best.

Peter: You do great. [and his socked foot goes to play along her ankle]

Melissa: [she nods] I try, anyway. It's rough sometimes, because I know I can't be everything he needs, but. We're figuring it out.

Peter: And you're not alone. You've got John and I to help you along just like you help us.

Melissa: [she nods before sighing] Raph ... he wasn't perfect. And he certainly wasn't a prince for the way he walked out on us. But sometimes I miss having him around just to field he questions I don't really want to answer. But some of 'em just don't feel right getting pawned off on someone else.

Peter: You can always text one of us? Say you're looking it up to make sure.

Melissa: Maybe. We'll see when we get there.

Peter: And who knows... maybe you will find someone to be there and help when those awkward years hit.

Melissa: [tips her head a bit as she watches him] Are you applying for the job?

Peter: [chuckles] I think we're very early in our dating to jump to that step, don't you?

Melissa: I wouldn't say that. It's either going to be you or John. Might as well get it out there now.

Peter: Should I be worried that John is competition? [grins]

Melissa: [she laughs] In the "being a surrogate father to my son" race? He's got a good few years on you already. But in ... other areas? Not so much.

Peter: Well, good. I'm not fond of competition. I prefer to focus my intentions on those who deserve them. [grins]

Melissa: Oh really? And what are your intentions, exactly.

Peter: Well, I was hoping to perhaps kiss you again, as we did on the beach.

Melissa: Ooh. So we have similar intentions then.

Peter: Do we now? That's good to know. [he leans forward to take her wine glass and puts it on the table with his]

Melissa: [she lets him take the glass before moving closer] I'm glad you think so.

Peter: Come here. [and he will guide her into his lap before he starts to kiss her deeply]

Melissa: [and she will go easily, sinking into the kiss and getting as close as she can]

Peter: [and he will be very happy with this, his hands starting to gently slide up and down her ribs]

Melissa: [hums softly into the kiss, settling comfortably as she does]

Peter: [and eventually he will kiss along her jaw] God you're beautiful.

Melissa: [sinks into him with a sigh, before teasing] Sweet-talker. [she's not attempting to discourage him, but it's been a while since she's done this and snark comes far more easily]

Peter: [and she was going to feel how excited he was getting eventually as well as he pulled her closer and let his hands run along her back] I feel like a teenager hoping mom doesn't walk in on me.

Melissa: [she laughs, sliding her fingers through his hair as she keeps him close] Would you like to take this somewhere more private?

Peter: Only if you want to. [his blue eyes are making sure it's what she wants]

Melissa:]pulls back to look at him, considering for a moment before nodding. yeah, she definitely wants this. it's not like she hasn't been thinking about it for a while]

Peter: [and he will smile and kiss her] Then let's go.

Melissa: [and off they go to her room where they can close the door and be alone for a while]

Peter: [and he is going to take his time, being gentle but firm and making sure she is very well satisfied]

Melissa: [which she appreciates very much, and there will be snuggling afterwards]

Peter: [snuggling and peppering kisses along her shoulder and his burns are looking a lot better]

Melissa: [yeah, she's noticing that] You know, it'll always amaze me how fast you healed.

Peter: Well, I've had amazing medical attention. But I've been a fast healer.

Melissa: Mmmm-hmmm. [it still seems fast to her, but she's not going to bring that up now]

Peter: [distraction, kissing her is a go]

Melissa: [oh hey distraction kissing. she is very fond of that, and questions about his healing will be put to the side for now]

Peter: [yes, because he's eventually will roll on top of her and begin round two]

Melissa: [mmmm round two. and after that she will probably be sufficiently worn out to start to drift off]

Peter: [and he will keep her curled up at his side, drifting off with her]

Melissa: [and they hopefully were not supposed to pick up children and will be able to clean up and not see Scott and Cora until later]

Sheriff: [Nope, he figured he had them until the afternoon since it was his day off after having the morning shift on Friday. But he is so going to meet them on the porch with the look. The parent knowing what the kids did look]

Melissa: [and she's going to raise those eyebrows right back at him, before moving to the door] Scott, time to go.

Sheriff: You know, I'm going to have to up my hourly rate.

Peter: You start needing overnights off, you just have to ask.

Scott: [from the floor where he is wrapped in a blanket] But the movie isn't over yet.

Melissa: [sighs as she glances down at her watch] Alright. [and turning back to the sheriff] Wouldn't kill you to get yourself out there again.

Sheriff: Kinda hard when you're still in love.

Melissa: [a sympathetic look before squeezing his hand] So how much longer is on this movie?

Sheriff: Maybe twenty minutes. Want some coffee?

Peter: Coffee sounds good.

Melissa: [she nods] Coffee sounds perfect.

Sheriff: Come on in. There may even be a bowl of cereal left somewhere.

Melissa: [she nods as she follows them in, glancing to the three kids curled up on the couch] Did they give you any trouble?

Sheriff: Nope. Scott had a bit of an attack, but he was able to breathe through it. Cora's getting good at helping him focus.

Melissa: That's good. She's good at that with both of them.

Peter: She's always been good at being the quiet cuddler.

Melissa: I'm sure they both appreciate it.

Sheriff: Oh, they do. More than she realizes, sometimes.

Peter: Should I be worried?

Melissa: [eyebrow raise because now she's curious too]

Sheriff: No, pretty sure the ship has sailed now.

Melissa: In a good or bad way?

Sheriff: [lowers his voice so it doesn't carry] Stiles wanted to take her to the graduation dance, but from what I got from him, she wanted to spend time with Scott. Which is why he didn't go. But now he's eyeing this redhead girl, Lydia Martin.

Melissa: [her eyebrows go up a bit and she glances to Peter]

Peter: She hasn't talked about liking one of the boys over the other. They're always talked about as a trio.

Melissa: She's been through a lot. It wouldn't surprise me if she wasn't thinking that way.

Peter: Oh, I know. She probably isn't. Lately she's been suppressing a lot of her emotions. I try to get her to talk, but she used to be very sensitive to people's feelings and I think she's cut that part of herself off to be able to get through this.

Melissa: I'm sure it'll work itself out.

Sheriff: It took Stiles some time, but he eventually found his way back to being himself after his mother died.

Peter: I know she will get there in time.

Melissa: She will. She's a tough kid.

Peter: Though if she is going to date, can't say I don't mind if it is one of your boys.

Melissa: She's twelve. I think she can wait a little bit longer.

Peter: I had a girlfriend when I was twelve.

Melissa: [just gives him a look like DON'T MAKE MY BABY GROW UP TOO FAST, PETER HALE.]

Sheriff: [and both his eyebrows are raised, though he's assumed at Melissa's look]

Peter: But that was a long time ago. Much better to wait now.

Melissa: I agree.

Peter: I think it's time I take Cora and go. [before he eats the rest of his foot]

Melissa: [nods as she sips her coffee] Maybe you should.

Peter: See you Wednesday?

Melissa: See you Wednesday.

Sheriff: You have the kids Monday and Tuesday.

Peter: Yes, I remember. See you both later.

Melissa: [nods as she lets him go]

Cora: [picks her head up from the cuddle pile on the couch] Are we leaving?

Peter: I'm afraid so.

Cora: [sighs] Okay. [and she will start to wrestle her way out and away from Scott and Stiles]

Stiles & Scott: Awww, but there's still the easter egg....

Cora: It's okay. I'll watch it later.

Stiles: But it's the best part. It leads into the next movie.

Peter: [sighs] I'll take your stuff to the car, and you can watch the easter egg. And then we go home.

Cora: [grins at Peter before nodding] Okay. [And back into the snuggle pile she goes]

Peter: [shakes his head and just thinks about how she is going to break one or two hearts one day, and heads to the car with her things]

Cora: [and she will settle in for the Easter egg, completely oblivious to any of that]

Stiles: [and when it's over] I can walk you out to the car.

Scott: Me too.

Cora: It's not like I have to go far. You guys can start the next movie.

Stiles: You sure?

Cora: Yeah, I'm sure. I'll see you guys tomorrow.

Stiles & Scott: Bye.

Cora: [and out she goes to the car, sliding into the back seat] Thanks for letting me stay.

Peter: You're welcome, sweetheart. Did you have fun?

Cora: Yeah, it was great.

Peter: So, I do have to tell you something, if you haven't already figured it out on your own. And I want to make sure you're comfortable with it.

Cora: Okay?

Peter: Scott's mother and I are starting to date each other.

Cora: I knew that.

Peter: Well, it's getting a bit more serious.

Cora: ... Oh.

Peter: Are you okay with that?

Cora: Yeah. If she makes you happy.

Peter: She does. She really does.

Cora: Good. [a beat] If you guys break up does that mean I can't be friends with Scott anymore?

Peter: No, no it does not.

Cora: Okay.

Peter: Though we could have them come over for dinner once a week.

Cora: Okay. That'd be fun.

Peter: And it may mean that you and Scott will have more sleepovers at Stiles' on Fridays.

Cora: [grins] That sounds good.

Peter: [smiles at that] So we're both really benefitting from this arrangement.

Cora: Yeah. Sounds good.

Peter: So, what shall we do today?

Cora: [there's a beat as she considers, her fingers playing with each other for a moment before she asks quietly] Do you think ... we could go up to the preserve? [she's very much prepared for Peter to say no] Not the house, just ... in the woods.

Peter: [he thinks for a moment, his hands gripping the steering wheel a moment as he thought] We could.

Cora: We don't have to. I just ... miss it, sometimes.

Peter: No, we should go. The preserve is our home still.

Cora: Okay. [she doesn't want to make him sad]

Peter: [He will be sad regardless, but it's a good thing they are doing] Would you like to get some flowers? We can leave it by the clearing your mother would always take the family to picnic at.

Cora: Okay. [honestly she just wants to go run in the woods, but she should leave something for her mom too]

Peter: [and they will go get the flowers and then drive up to the preserve]

Cora: [and after they leave the flowers she is just going to ... go running through the trees because it helps her not think, at least for a little while. It still hurts and she still misses Laura and Derek fiercely but it does feel good to run again]

Peter: [and he's going to let her, instead he is going to walk along one of the trails, just taking in the scents before reaching a hollow tree. He's going to reach into the spot where the bark split and pull out a book. he gave a satisfied hum and went to sit against the tree and read.]

Cora: [so she will run and run and run and then try and sneak up on her uncle though her move silently was like a 3 without any mods so she probably loses]

Peter: [yeah, he may be engrossed in his book, but he will hear the branch break as she got closer and chuckle] You're out of practice.

Cora: [scowls] It's been a while.

Peter: Well, it just means we will need to come back and work on it. After all, just because this has happened doesn't change the way the world works.

Cora: [she nods as she goes to flop next to him with a sigh] What are you reading?

Peter: It's just an old Stephen King novel.

Cora: Where'd you get it?

Peter: I left it in the tree.

Cora: Oh.

Peter: I would leave your brother things in the tree sometimes. [porn] But I kept a few books for myself. Sometimes people walking in the preserve would find it, and I would just replace them as needed.

Cora: [she nods] Cool.
