d&d scenes } { of escapes and last ditch efforts

Ric: [he stood in the hallway, clinging to the laptop in his arms and he tried not to pant audibly. He didn't expect Isabella to have magic. Fuck. This wasn't good. He had hoped that the mist would last long enough for him to get to the door and get out. Now he was trapped. But he still had an advantage here--he grew up in this building and knew it inside and out--both on the floor and in the vents.

The vents. The invisibility spell wasn't going to last much longer, so he needed to get into the vents and over a room no one was in. Then he could breathe a bit easier. So he made his way to find an empty room with an open door he could slip into.]

Isabella: [storms out in to the hallway, her hands waving again as she starts to cast a detect magic spell, looking for the source of the obscuring mist. Cops are rushing out of the rooms, trying to find out what's going on, while the detectives are shouting at them to start locking down the exits]

Ric: [when the cops abandon a room, Ric moves in and slowly closes the door to prevent it from making a noise. He then heads right for the vent, pushing a chair up under it, pushing the vent cover away, then carefully got the laptop into the vent before swinging himself up and in and replacing the cover.]

Isabella: [she catches a general sense of magic, but given that the shelter was built in layers of magic, she hasn't 100% narrowed it down, but she is moving in his direction. Make a move silently check]

Ric: [29]

Isabella: [there's too much sound, she can't make out anything distinctive. She lingers briefly, at the door to the room, before one of the security gets her attention and she moves away]

Ric: [and he is going to slowly shift himself to sit above a point he estimates is the wall between rooms. Only then is he going to relax and calm his breathing and whispers to himself] Fuck.

Isabella: [is going to go instruct some members of her security to seal down all the exits - even the less obvious ones. Some of them are acolytes that band together to put an entire bubble around the shelter. It'll take some time to put it in place, but that's what she's doing while you're hanging out with the laptop]

Ric: [he figures that, and knows he can't get out in time. So instead he's going to focus on hacking into the computer if none of the passwords he knows works]

Isabella: [make a computer use check because Lammel changed them after their falling out]

Ric: [22]

Isabella: [you get close a couple times, but in the end, the firewall kicks him out and back to where he started]

Ric: [he resists banging his head on the vent wall. So instead he's going to shut it down and pull the hard drive out. Thank you Fie for the swiss army knife]

Isabella: [it comes out fairly easily. it is just a normal computer]

Ric: [and he will stick the drive into an interior pocket of his jacket, then close the thing up and wipe off his prints with his shirt. He'll leave the laptop behind and start crawling slowly to find a safer hiding spot]

Isabella: [make a navigate check]

Ric: [20]

Isabella: [you make your way through the vents easily, relying on your memory of the layout from when you were a kid - oddly enough, the quieter things get, the closer and closer he gets to the altar room]

Ric: [and he knows where the line between the altar room and the hallway is from a sharpie mark he made on the vent a long time ago to make sure he knew when he was at the entrance. He's going to stop there, sitting back and just debating the safety of the room verses being in Shar's presence again.]

Isabella: [still currently scouring the rooms - eventually she's going to catch on to the vents]

Ric: [he's going to pull out his phone, making sure it's still on silent, and then sends Donna a text.] Hey, listen. I need a favor. Get my computer from my clinic office and hide it somewhere only you know. If something happens to me, I need you to destroy it. I'm... I'm pretty sure I fucked up badly but I had to try and protect him. And me. I'm sorry. If I make it out okay, I promise it's the last time I do something like this, but he was the closest thing I had to a father. I had to. I'm sorry to ask this, but you're the only person I trust. Probably my only real friend. If nothing else, destroying it will at least protect the Institute from my past actions coming back to bite us. And if I do make it out of this, you're welcome to scream at me all you want after. Thanks – Ric
