"And now, the groom."

Stiles reached for the microphone and rubbed at the back of his neck. "So, everyone kinda knows that my mom passed away when I was little. I'm pretty sure though that right now she's looking down on all of this and smiling, happy to know that I've finally made the right choice in who I'm supposed to spend my life with." He smiled at Cora.

"But even before my mom died, there was someone who stepped in and was a mom to me long before she took on the role in a more official way." He looked over at Melissa and smiled. "So Melissa... Mom, care to dance?"

"Oh, no. No one told me I had to do this twice."

It's not really much of a protest though, because she does get up and make her way closer. Stiles also saw her crying buckets at Scott's wedding for the mother-son dance. Once she's close enough, she gives him a look that isn't entirely serious.

"You are not allowed to make me cry."

Stiles smiled at her, taking her hand and pulling her close. "Too late. If it helps, I'll probably end up crying too?" And the DJ starts playing "I Hope You Dance", which was Claudia's favorite song.

She laughs as she rests a hand on her shoulder. "When you cry, you don't wind up with mascara running down your face?"

"See, I would have thought after Scott's wedding, you would remember to wear waterproof mascara to weddings." He stepped in closer, keeping Melissa close enough to keep the conversation to themselves as they danced.

"I've never really thanked you for stepping in and being my mom after she died."

"Some things, not even waterproof mascara can stop."

That being said, she looks up at him with a soft smile, before rubbing his shoulder gently. "That's not something you have to thank me for, Stiles."

"No, I do. You didn't have to. I was a pain in the ass and you really, really didn't have to."

[denmom]

"You were a pain in the ass, but you were generally a well meaning pain in the ass, which can make all the difference. You weren't as terrible as you think."

[fadingspark]

"Even that time I almost set the house on fire when I was trying to help Scott with that birthday cake that exploded on the stove?"

[denmom]

She cringes a bit at that. "Yeah, that time is one of the exceptions to the rule."

[fadingspark]

"And yet here you are, having not killed me."

[denmom]

"Well, you were Scott's best friend," she sighs, looking back at him with a small smirk. "What kind of mom would I be if I made my own kid sad?"

"Well, true. Plus you'd also make my dad sad. And no one likes when my dad is sad."

[denmom]

"Least of all me," she says with a nod and a small smile. "I'm just glad you finally got everything you were looking for."

[fadingspark]

He looked over at Cora and smiled stupidly. "Yeah, yeah I'm kinda lucky things came back around to let me have it."

She nods in agreement as the song comes to the end, and she leans in to give him a kiss on the cheek. "So make sure you keep it that way."
